What a gem, I didn't even know this place existed until I searched on Yelp. I was looking for a certain size needle for the "Resistance Hats," every place was sold out. I found a close size and asked the sales person. She said she would not recommend but they just received a shipment. she proceeded to search through the boxes until she found my size. Unfortunately, if you park in the back you'll have to walk around to the front for entry, I recommend trying to find a place on the street. read more

(Whoops! Loved my purchase so much that I posted the same photo twice!) As an avid fiber-enthusiast, I thought I knew where all the local yarn shops (LYS) were located. Imagine my surprise when I got schooled and discovered Needle & Skein. I stopped in to pick up needles for a new project. The two crafters at the table in the front window greeted me warmly, which made me feel like a valued visitor. The person on-staff - maybe the owner? - knew exactly what I needed and helped me make my choices quickly. And then I asked the one question, the kryptonic to my yarn stash... Do you have any Malabrigo? Oh, boy. It was like riding the twisty slide and landing in the pit of squishy colored skeins. It's a good think that only some of the styles were on sale, else I would have bought one (or more) of everything. I made sure to join the reward club and the mailing list because I will be a repeat customer! read more

I was just in the store (2nd trip) to return two skeins of top quality wool yarn , with the receipt and wanting to purchase yarn for two throws. They have a 30-day return policy. I understand a time limit on returns and was aware of it when I purchased the yarn. Thirty days seems too short of a timeline. I work full time and was knitting a sweater, about $80 worth of yarn + the two that I purchased because my scale was smaller than the recommendation. By the time I confirmed that I didn't need the additional skeins, it was passed the 30 days. I would have been ok with store credit, especially with the pattern for two throws that I brought in with the intention of purchasing yarn for both. But was told that even store credit was not an option. With that being my second trip there AND still told that the owner is the only one that could make that call and they didn't know when she was going to be in, I decided that that was my last time in Needle & Skein. I am so over Needle & Skein, I thought I would give them one more chance since my initial experience was not the best and I was participating in the 2019 Yarn Shop Hop (this was one of the stops). Needle & Skein absolutely proved my first experience to be a typical experience for them. The woman who was working for the shop (interestingly enough the same person who helped me my first time there) was incredibly rude, disengaged and just unpleasant. She was the epitome of what customer service should NOT look like. She was not willing to go above and beyond (almost to the determent to the sale) in the spirit of being a small business. Had her coworker not stepped in, I would have left my basket (which was close to $100 yarn and notions) and walked out. I felt very excluded and not welcomed and Needle & Skein. I will not be returning and I have already let my crochet friends not to shop at this LYS. read more

Will not be back. Nobody said hello to me, nobody asked if I needed help finding anything. When I selected the notion I needed, I wandered around the shop a bit and was still ignored. When I went to check out with my $13 embroidery scissors I was told (after he saw the price), "we charge an extra 4% for purchases under $20 (which is fine, do you)", he hadn't bothered to ask how I was paying, which was cash. While I appreciate being notified of something like that next time ask how I'm paying first. I went and found my partner and on our way out the door nobody said "good bye, thank you for coming, have a nice day." My suggestion go to StevenBe and observe how they treat guests in their establishment. You might learn something. read more

I have been to this store before and took a class there a year ago. Today I went there to find yarn for a project. I had yarn previously purchased at the Shepards festival and a needed a similar weight of yarn to use with it. I asked if they knew what weight my yarn was. the owner said "we wouldn't know what that would be". I thought that was pretty strange considering she owns a yarn shop. She was very rude. she looked up the pattern I said I was planning on making. She said it called for Aran weight. I asked what Aran weight was and if it was the same as worsted. She replied well No! Aran is Aran, very rudely. She obviously doesn't need my business which is a good thing because I will never return. read more

Huge selection of high quality wool, alpaca, and cashmere yarns. I'm new to knitting, so I went to many yarn shops to check out what's available. The people working at Needle & Skein are so friendly and helpful, but they also give you breathing room to browse on your own. They also have a good selection of knitting supplies. Harriet and Alice is another nice place with friendly, helpful staff and many high quality yarns. StevenBe has a dizzying array of unique yarns on multiple floors, but their prices were higher and I felt so overwhelmed I couldn't pick out a simple high quality yarn that I wanted to use. I also went to Dib, which had a much smaller basic selection. read more

This store is a gem! They have a great selection of MadelineTosh and Dream In Color. Their staff was friendly and knowledgeable about their products. They have a small sale section, but I still managed to find a skein I couldn't live without. I visited this yarn shop last year during Yarn Shop Hop, and was kind of put off. They've had a change in ownership, and now I know I'll be back! Such a lovely surprise in the middle of St Louis Park. read more

I love this store. I'm visiting from California and wanted to see the local yarn shops. This one did not disappoint, I found a beautiful yarn for a good price and I am beyond pleased. The woman working here, whose name I forgot to ask for, was very sweet and helpful, as well as patient with my grandmother and I. One of my travel "must do" items is to stop in an a local yarn shop and pick up some locally produced yarn. I visited Needle and Skein on a recent trip and pipped in. The store had undergone a change in ownership and the new owners are expanding the local selections so nothing local was available at that time. However, this store is charming beyond words! The staff is super friendly and helpful, and the stock was impressive with many brands never seen in person before. I left with 2 gorgeous tweed silks and a Madeleine Tosh in the perfect University of MN shade of gold. Next time I'm in MN, I will visit again for sure and leave extra space in my suitcase! read more

I was not given the truth , not happy and stuck with yarn I can't return , I went in to add more yarn to a project , I was told the yarn was discontinued , I sat in the store and worked out another solution , but then when on the yarns website and was able to order directly from them . Now I have yarn that I most likely won't use , Just too bad that people cant be honest . read more

I adore this charming yarn store! I stopped by to check it out while visiting friends in Minneapolis. The parking is easy, the friendly staff are very helpful, and the store is nicely designed. It is open, stylish, and displays the top of the line yarns beautifully. I crochet and bought a unique crochet hook made out of driftwood and skeins of super soft Big Wool by Rowan. I can't wait to get started. Gilah, the owner, is enthusiastic about her passion for quality yarns and is very knowledgeable. It was a pleasure talking with her, Kathy, and Kathleen about yarns, patterns, knitting, and trends. I plan to learn to knit and would love to come take classes next visit. There are many to choose from and the front table for classes is situated at the front of the store by the window. It was cozy, clean, sunny, and absolutely delightful. I wish I lived closer so I could take advantage of these incredibly talented knitting teachers. I will be back! read more

I was so excited to go back to this amazing yarn store I discovered a couple years ago. Since it's quite a drive for me, I arrived without much time left before they closed. Even 20 minutes was better than nothing. The staff was obviously not happy that I arrived so close to closing time. They made me quite aware I didn't have a lot of time to shop. No one asked if they could help me with anything. I had to ask for help to find a pattern and then the yarn to make a sample they had. Right before I was able to ask about the yarn one employee announced "We are closing in five minutes." Then "4 minutes" was announced in a brisk, not very friendly voice. They no longer had the yarn I was looking for from the sample, saying we just carry different yarn now. I bought one item because I needed it for something else I was working on at home. I was not offered a bag at checkout. As I left no one said goodbye, thanked me for shopping there, or even acknowledged I was leaving. I can say I wish I had not spent my money there and don't plan to return. Quite disappointing when I made a very special effort to make sure I made it to this specific store. read more

I experienced an outrageous incident at this yarn store. Just before ownership changed from Linden Yarn to Needle and Skein I bought yarn to complete a Christmas project but part of the yarn came in after Christmas, too late to be useful, and I scrapped the project. This resulted in me returning 3 of the 4 skeins I had purchased and receiving two different store credits totaling $36. When I presented one of the credit receipts while making a purchase after the store changed ownership to Needle and Skein, the clerk refused to honor the credit. In a subsequent conversation with the owner I also met a road-block and was given conflicting information: they had never received customer credit info from the previous owner at the time of the sale, they had already given out plastic gift cards to honor credits, they had changed their billing system and had no record of any credits. And finally my veracity was questioned: I must be lying, why should she believe me? I persisted and pushed back on these explanations and in the end the owner issued me the credit, but only under protest. When I returned to the store to claim and use the credit one more employee felt the need to make an unpleasant and uncalled for accusation about my honesty. While this shop does carry beautiful yarn the stunning, unexpected, ugly and accusative manner in which three different employees dealt with me makes it impossible for me to patronize this business in the future. It remains beyond belief to me that my honesty was questioned. My more than negative experience with staff at Needle and Skein was truly unprecedented and disturbing. read more
