We came at 11am on a Wednesday to an empty restaurant, but the servers were very sweet and offered their full attention. A bit unfortunately, our server did not speak any English, and so I had to utilize my high school Spanish skills, which have definitely deteriorated in the last five years, to attempt to communicate that we wanted to split a dish between us. Luckily, they did get my message, and ended up delivering us such a generous amount of food that we were worried that we would be charged for two servings! We ordered the chilaquiles sampler/breakfast combo dish- the actual name escapes me- and it came with coffee, beet juice (?), a fruit platter, and of course, the chilaquiles, which we got with shredded pork and rosa sauce. The coffee was very strong and flavorful- I don't even know where to begin to describe the individual flavors, but it's safe to say that I loved it. The beet juice on the other hand... A nice way of describing it would be "healthy." It dyes your teeth a brilliant red color after drinking, so if you have the desire to appear a vampire for a few seconds, choke that thing down, but otherwise, this isn't something I'd ever order on its own. The fruit platter was an assortment of apples, mangoes, star fruit, and strawberries on what seemed like a bed of honey/sugary flavoring. The star fruit were pretty flavorless, but seeing as this is just how star fruit are, no complaints can really be made. We could see workers bringing in fresh fruits and vegetables as we sat in the restaurant, so I think it's safe to say that the fruits were very fresh. The chilaquiles were not very spicy, sadly for me, and good for my dining partner, so I asked for a hot sauce of sorts (another test of my Spanish skills) and our server brought out a terrifyingly black liquid that leveled up the dish to heights that cannot be fathomed. If you like the burn, please ask for hot sauce, you will not be disappointed. I am so impressed. 10/10 would come back.

We are so glad we found this gem! The food was outstanding. Not your run of the mill mexican food. They have added their own special ingredients that have made them authentic. We will definitely be back.

Absolutely everything about this place is incredible from the historic building to the food to the service. We were truly impressed. The food is imaginative as it is delicious. They also have a nice variety of interesting cocktails. We plan on coming back for breakfast.

I'm here on vacation. My family and I were looking for some delicious food in El centro de Puebla we walked by and decided to give Nelhua a try. As soon as we came in everyone was so welcoming and sweet. The food was AMAZING & the drinks were refreshing!!! Please try the MOLE!

Not a negative review just letting people know. This place is no longer in business. Just adding more so that I can post this
Going to this restaurant is a whole art experience, starting at the beautiful vintage building to the spot on decoration, the excellent service and finishing with impeccable food presentation and delicious food. I tried the "short rib" and the "ensalada de temporada" and both were on point. I am excited to go back and try the "mole poblano" and more mezcal cocktails. read more

Best hidden gem in Puebla. Came to Puebla for the weekend and we've been eating good food until Nelhua gave us an amazing breakfast experience. The breakfast/brunch menu is sophisticated: Mexican "traditional" dishes with a twist of modern kitchen techniques and unordinary delicious flavors. We had tlacoyos and chilaquiles on an amazing $120 pesos package that includes fruit, fresh juice, conchas (Mexican sweet pastry). The place is hidden above a coffee shop. Dare to enter. You'll have an amazing experience. One thing I regret though: not taking the time to photograph the food, we ate it as soon as it arrived! read more

Really loved it. Found it on yelp and was very very pleased with our experience. Nobody else there though. Maybe it was the hour we chose to eat. They greated us kindly and with the house drink "sin alcohol". Absolutely delicious. And the food we ordered was a perfect light meal after all the other heavy foods we have been eating since we've been in Mexico. Hats off to the staff and chefs! We will find our way back there next time we visit Puebla!! For sure!! read more

Impressed!!! Everything we ordered was delicious! The waitress gave us all the information about the restaurant and the artist who painted the cool mural on the wall! Upstairs is a rooftop bar where we enjoyed the most delicious drinks ever! Highly recommended!!!!! read more

The breakfast combo with smoked turkey chilaquiles is insanely good. It comes with a really good heated up pan dulce, cinnamon flavored coffee, juice, and fresh fruit smothered in a passion fruit sauce. A really delicious breakfast option very close to the zocalo. read more
