I absolutely LOVE this place! I love the atmosphere and the service is always amazing! Some people complain about the dim lighting but that's what I love the most about it! I love going there with my fiancee especially when we want to have a romantic evening! The lighting and decor is perfection. At the end of every night they give a flower to each woman that comes in and that always leaves me with a huge smile on my face. I feel like I'm more than just a customer when I am there. The food is melt in my mouth delicious! I literally want to savor every bite! There isn't a dish I wouldn't recommend here but, my personal favorites are the steak and the tortellini! The salad is so simple, yet so delicious. This is definitely a place I highly recommend for anyone to go too. read more

My husband and I had dinner there last night, April 7, 2017. It was the worst Italian food we've ever had. I ordered the Cannelloni with salad. My husband ordered half spaghetti half ravioli. Both of our dinners were watery and lacked flavor. My salad with shrimp, was a plate of wilted lettuce drenched in an Italian dressing the shrimp was that tiny frozen or canned shrimp barley large enough to see, and not other vegetables. I asked for blue cheese dressing. Their idea is to grate two swipes of fresh blues cheese over the drenched Italian dressing. The service was really good but the food was aweful. read more

First off, the food is incredible and the staff is amazing, so why the 2 stars? What ruined the evening was about halfway though, a man walks in wearing a Nello's T-shirt and baseball cap. He stands at the greeting area and is having a discussion with a couple of the staff. He started to berate the staff as we could hear him very clearly. He said he was watching them and he would be observing all week end through "the camera" and they had "better step up or else". I am not sure who this person was but if it was an owner or manager or whoever, his behavior was horrible. You do not treat your employees that way and especially in front of your customers. I have left a message with the restaurant to find out who this character was. Hopefully they will tell me and I can contact him and let him know how unprofessional and disgusting his attitude was. Not sure if it will make a difference, but when you go out for a special night with a loved one, you do not want to witness that! read more

I'm on board. We were 5-ing down from Oregon. Belly was rumbling and needed bites soon. With temps pushing 100, I had reservations of a pasta based coma... but Nello's nailed it. The food was good. The service was fantastic and the prices were fair. Table side salad preparations can be an awkward affair... but the wait staff executed without a hitch. Tonight was especially disappointing ..... Apparently their answer was : The overall level of satisfaction is better when hey are particularly busy. ( So, on a weekend night ) Unfortunately, we have been dining st Nellie since 1991 when "Mr Nello" himself owned and ran the restaurant. He was impeccable and had the integrity of an angel. The son in law ....... apparently , not as much. The excuse that he has had a difficult time since The Camp Fire ....... doesn't really help me. We came to celebrate my nephews Birthday ! We wanted to share with him what we believed was the best of Redding. Not to have our steaks served very luke warm. The salads .... not the size I remember..... Yes, they took our meals back and heated them ...... a reheated medium Filet Mignons ??? Sorry ........ did not work for me. They removed the price of two meals, and then left us to flag them down to box the remainders. My daughter had to walk to the booth to pay for our meals as the check never showed up. What the heck ! Used to be a great place ! May give it another try on another special occasion, ( on a busy weekend ) Otherwise, to run a restaurant as a business ... to keep it open as a business .... you've got to be "good" or "great" in order to rely on it to pay your bills. The food was good! I was a little disappointed with the somewhat dated decor. The wait staff was friendly, and that helped to make up for the above mentioned out-dated decoration. The pricing was a little on the high-end, but I'll pay for good italian food (after all my Great Grandpa is from Sicily). I'd definitely return to this place, however I think my favorite Italian Restaurant in town is still Clarizio's. After Clarizio's, this place and Gironda's tie for second. read more

Went there for our 34th anniversary on Saturday. We have been going there for over 20 years. Still great food and great service. This is one of the few restaurants where you are made to feel special. We spent a night unexpectedly in Redding when we lost a waterpump from our van just outside of town, and were lucky enough to end up at Nello's Place. The lights were low, the waiters were dressed semiformally, the fact that we were wearing shorts and sandals didn't put them off, and the music was a mixture of swing and classical. The steak Diane was really very good, and the lamb chops were delicately seasoned and cooked with a light hand. The desserts were a little disappointing -- zabaglione that was heavy on the liqueur unadulterated with anything (would have expected berries at a minimum), New York cheesecake with no glace, intensely chocolate something or other. If you enjoy rich desserts without subtle notes of flavor, you'll probably find something to suit. For the price, and the level of service, it is a pleasant place to spend an evening when you have no other plans. read more

Why would anyone venture outta town when this gem is clearly one of Redding's best! Look at all you get for such a modest price point plus service that makes you want to come back just to be pampered without the constant hovering. Plus...a tablecloth, shrimp on your salad at no additional charge, pasta with your meal, antipasto plate and usually a flower for the ladies upon leaving. Compare this to the new out of town place that seats you, takes your order and forgets you and you'll be forever a regular customer. Never been to Nello's, but will definitely be back. I've heard from family that it is good but expensive. I actually didn't think it was any more expensive than any where else. I had the New York, and my wife had the fettuccine alfredo. I would definitely recommend the pasta. Can get a better steak somewhere else, but what should I expect from an Italian place? HOLY CRUD BALLS, this place was SO GOOD! Seriously, everything was amazing! The service was great, the salad was delicious and fresh and not overdone, the appetizers were killer, and the entrees put me on cloud nine. They have a good wine selection to choose from, and it has a great ambiance. If you are looking for a romantic night out, or just a pleasant meal, this is the place. My wife and I were driving through to OR, stopped for the night, and searched for restaurants. Happened uponst Nello's, north of exit 675. Absolutely a treasure. Old time Italian ambiance. Nello owned Fior D'Talia before retiring in the 80s. Dave was our waiter. Very knowledgeable, friendly, and helpful. My wife had the scampi appie. Delightfully buttery and garlicky. I had the veal scalopini, which included a small antipasti plate with italian tuna, house salad made at the table, and a wonderful veal with a light marsala sauce. Certainly will eat here again. Yay! I'm a fan. Perfect dinner. A Wednesday, 8:30 PM just a few other diners. We selected table 31 in back so if the sopranos came in shooting I would have time to hold my wife in front of me. Classic Italian music, over in the bar a baseball game with no sound. Just great. Dinner started with (included) a lettuce salad with a few finger shrimp, mixed table side with olive oil and vinegar, freshly grated cheese, black pepper right out of the grinder, delightful. Antipasto and bread hot out of the oven. She had chicken picatta with capers, I spaghetti aglio olio (with garlic, olive oil), and anchovies. She loved hers; I enjoyed mine, but next time, for me, light on the anchovies. Two cocktails, two house cabernets, but our waiter, Angelo, brought a half carafe explaining that it would be a better value. Right on. Coffee ok for her; too robust for me. The table "assistant," Joey, kept the water glasses full, checked on the bread and was the hidden hand that made this dinner just perfect. $55 plus tip. This place is a keeper.But parking can be tight. So when they are busy come in a big rig and use four wheel drive. You'll possibly be ok. read more

The eggplant parmigiana was bland and varied in temp from cool to hot, the manicotti was also just plain boring. The service was subpar, slow, no draft beer, the chocolate cake also tasted like it came out of the grocery store freezer section with Hershey syrup on top. It's just not worth it. read more

I'm so glad my boyfriend and I decided to try this restaurant. At night, the entrance and surrounding area looks a bit less than savory, but inside it's all good old italian atmosphere. The portions and range of menu selection were big, the food was well worth the price, and overall the place made me reminiscent of Italian family get-togethers. I don't know how they do it, but this is one of the best old fashioned Italian restaurants I have found in a very long time. They had wonderful service and wonderfully dressed waiters. White shirts, black vests and pants, bow ties, white linen napkin over the arm, pleasant, well spoken and genuinely good caring and aware of their work. I am telling every person I know that if they ever go through Redding CA to go their for dinner. It is fantastic. My honey bunny and I made reservations here for our anniversary. When we arrived, the host told us our table wasn't ready yet so we went and sat at the bar. We're pretty easy going, so this wasn't a biggie. In about 15 mins our table was ready and there were two complimentary drinks served to us for the inconvenience. The dinner was fantastic. Soft, hot sourdough bread for the table, antipasta, and a freshly tossed (at table) salad are included with the entree. For the entree, I chose the fettuccini chicken Alfredo. To DIE for!! My honey chose the beef ravioli. We each ordered the house wine (which was smooth and fragrant). The ambiance: meh. Large messy murals of San Fran. Our waiter was attentive, and very professional. The staff were all finely dressed. When we received our bill, we noticed ALL drinks were comp'd!!! Despite the inconvenience of our table not being ready upon arrival, it was a wonderful experience. Traveling through town we found Nello's Place on the iPad nav & Yelp apps with a high rating and it certainly deserves it. On a November Sunday for dinner the place was almost packed. Very interesting decor with grape cluster lighting and really old wine bottles, like a 73 Simi reserve cab sitting on the ledge of the booth which the waiter declared to be undrinkable. There is a full range of dishes typical of a good Italian menu. We wanted pasta so my wife ordered the fettuccine with peas and prosciutto and I had cannelloni with chicken, spinach and veal. The pastas were handmade and sauces had great flavors. The fettuccine plate could have fed three! The meal prices may look high but they do include an antipasto, soup/salad and dessert. We drank half a bottle of wine and took the rest home. The friendly staff worked like a precision drill team to give everyone great service. I would highly recommend this place and will make a point of stopping there again on our next trip. read more

Frequently pass through redding. A lot of the time it ends up being fast food. Lately I've been trying real restaurants. Tonight I wandered into Nello's. While the ambiance is dark don't let it fool you. I dined alone at the bar. they give you hot delicious bread followed by an anti pasto plate of salami olives a tuna mix and cheese. I ended up getting the chicken cacciatora. Amazing. A mix of green bell peppers mushrooms onions and a great sauce hit you immediately. My chicken was on another level. It was well seasoned and cooked to perfection. Definitely a recommended spot read more
