This was our first visit. We won't be back. On a positive note my wife's catfish was good and the owner gave me 4 complimentary shrimp. The negatives far outweigh the two positives. I ordered the lobster sliders. The price of $25 seemed a little high. However the menu said their were 2 sliders on the entree and the picture on Nelson's website showed an impressive portion of lobster. When the entree was delivered to the table there was one hot dog bun and most of it was chopped celery (that is why the owner gave me 4 shrimp) When we received the bill we did not receive the one free entree. That was corrected. My wife pointed out we were charged $25 for one half glass of Merlot.The most we have ever paid for one glass of wine at a high-end restaurant is $15. read more

Great restaurant, Manhattan's are perfect. Last night had the meatloaf and it was awesome. Highly recommend that and the hamburgers!

We had been wanting to try this place for some time now with it being a non chain restaurant we were really looking forward to our first dine in experience for new year's eve. It was by far the worse experience ever. Reservations were made for a party of 5 . Only 4 0other tables servers had to attend to, steaks were ordered around 815 to be told they ran out of mashed potatoes. Keep in mind they were only taking reservations. I understand people are trying to cut back with cost but that's not smart thing to do when taking reservations and knowing how many people you will have to serve. I ordered a 16oz sirloin medium well steak. When the server brought out everyone's steaks he said they had to cut into my steak for it to cook fast so not everyone was waiting on my steak to finish cooking. I've been to several steak houses and couldn't believe they literally cut my steak into 4 pieces. I'm not a chef but been told your never supposed to cut into your steak while cooking. This places is trying to be something that it's not. If you are going to give this type service to your customers you should cut back on your high priced steaka. We could've had better steaks and service at Kenny's for a lesser price. Poor service, poor food ,poor drinks needles to say we will never be back. read more

The ceviche is great and so filling. The salads here are great, especially the spicy Spring Mix salad. Yum!! The salmon was just righr, and the lobster bisque was tasty. We had the 32 ounce tomahawk steak with mashed potatoes, mashed sweet potatoes, fried okra and asparagus and it was awesome. The flavor of the steak was so good. Service was top notch. I was looking online for a new place to try in Plano with my husband. We decided to give this place a try. We were seriously disappointed. We started with the lobster bisque, really good flavor and it's served with generous amount of lobster meat, ours however, was over cooked and chewy. New was the artichoke salad. It was served hot, tasty and delicious but it was less a salad and closer to soup with the amount of liquid in it. Next was the Redfish a small filet that Was well cookeed but flavorless and served with tons of rice and asparagus. I was so underwhelmed I sent it back and ordered the lobster sliders. There were two small sliders and tons of French fries for $22. Taste was good but not great for the price they charged. We were there on a Friday night and we made a reservation. We showed up early with the intent of sittting at the bar. Fortunately they were able to accommodate us, but probably shouldn't have as the restaurant was busy and there seemed to be only two waiters. Our service was spotty missed glass of wine, slow refilling water etc. Over all a BIG disappointment especially with all the great reviews. read more

Loved this place when it was Hook Line and Sinker and we lived there went regularly. We made it a point to come every time we came back. Hadn't been here in awhile and found that it had changed ownership. Only a few people there (10 customers) and had to ask for my tea I ordered three times. Food is totally different especially the shrimp cocktail which I loved. Very pricy $33.00 for one person for 8 shrimp and fries and a shrimp cocktail. Definitely not going back read more

My husband and I just tried this place a few nights ago for a friends birthday and we were blown away! We are vegetarians but like I said it was for a friends birthday. Fortunately the chef kindly prepared a vegetarian dish for us. A grilled portabella mushroom with a spinach mushroom sauce. My husband received a different sauce, creamy lemon (butchering the name) but it was the best vegetarian meal we have had in years! He's not a huge fan of mushrooms but has not stopped raving about his meal since. The service on top of that was amazing! I would highly recommend this restaurant to any of our friends. At first enjoyed the ambiance however, if was short lived, we had ordered the salmon dinner and it took over 40 minutes before our food arrived so wasn't impressed. My husband and I just had a most unpleasant experience at Nelson's. We made reservations for an early dinner and took our 10 month old grandson. After ordering, the owner came over to our table and told us that he thought we needed to change the baby's diaper that there was an odor. We assured him that that was not the source of the odor (which we did not smell) and even checked the baby to be sure. We were so insulted by the owner's behavior that we asked for our food to go since we were uncomfortable eating there. The owner had to be summoned to come back to our table so that we could speak to him again. He claimed he still smelled the odor and we assured him again that the baby was not the source. Meanwhile, they continued to seat people next to our table with no complaints about odor. The owner refused to apologize and was even more indignant claiming his entire staff complained. We offered for him to bend down close to the baby to verify, which he declined. We wanted to be fair so we took our food and paid the bill and left. We will not go back. And by the way, when we got home, we found the food disappointing. Here's an update that might interest you: I posted the same review on Nextdoor in my neighborhood. One of the responses I received stated that they had eaten at Nelson's Friday night (the night before we were there) and they were having a sewage problem near the bathrooms. An apology is definitely in order. I will never go back anyway. read more

This was our first time to visit this restaurant. Our waiter, Thomas was absolutely amazing, the lobster bisque was fabulous, the gumbo was fantastic. I am a Florida girl, so I know my seafood. We had lunch here Dec 4th, our first visit. Our server was Thomas. He explained their menu and operation in detail. He was very cordial and showed pride in their operation. We started with cups of Seafood Gumbo and Lobster Bisque. Both were quite good. We then had a Grilled Salmon Fillet and a New York Strip entrees. The salmon and steak were cooked properly and presented well - taste suited us perfectly. We followed up with excellent Carrot Cake. A bit on the high side price-wise in our view, but it was a great meal. The owner stopped at our table to say hello. A nice touch. The restaurant was very clean and has a nice layout and design. Had been a regular at Hook Line for years. Nelson's took it over, completely changed it and gave it some class. New owner is great. Food great with good portions. The greens and corn bread is to die for. I wish they would put saltines and sauce on the table. Used to love those at Hook Line. Other than that, no complaints. A great neighborhood place. read more

I met the owner to this AMAZING New eclectic restaurant in Dallas. "Nelson's Steakhouse" All you guys MUST have a date night, take your parents or just go stag to the bar! But you have to try the Steak and seafood & The "proper" old fashioned drinks...I'd say hands down best whiskey sours and old fashions, and for the beer nerds...he has Goose on Tap!!!! I tried the crab cake and it was the biggest and crabbiest; crab cake I've ever had the pleasure of putting in my mouth. The was phenomenal; even down to the housemade remoulade sauce. Everything was so perfect! The owner takes his time, puts a lot of heart and soul into his masterpiece entrees and cocktails. He's a perfectionist and It shows. In comparison I'd say like Del Friscos...minus all the "Extra" and boujee-ness. But better and It's affordable; especially for the quality of steak and seafood you are getting....He has aged Wagyu beef. it is the perfect hangout atmosphere, or date spot. Cool art throughout the restaurant and a nice ambiance. Super clean, and best waitress/bartender in Dallas Tiffany. She was a real sweetie. Go tonight! read more

Fantastic place! Food is excellent and management is top notch. We are always greeted with a smile and drinks arrive within minutes! They have a wonderful menu, offering very fresh fish to large shareable steaks. I could eat there nightly! Nelson's brings an upscale quality of food and service in a welcoming causal setting. This restaurant is fantastic. Our group had the half crab/half shrimp boil, lobster sliders, rainbow trout, and burger. All were delicious and worth having. The sour cream ranch dip is divine. The patio is spaced appropriately for covid, we felt very comfortable (and I have very high standards for this). And best of all is the service. Everyone is really friendly but you really want to ask for Jordan. She is so friendly and sweet. She gave us such great attention we went back the next weekend! Even when she's busy she doesn't show stress and you can tell she is having fun. All in all, I can't recommend this place enough. read more
