I love the mandolins.
Tristan H.

I would say that there's nothing that this restaurant can make for breakfast that I can't do equally well at home - and that's a big reason why I often decide to not return to a restaurant - but what draws me are the times in the morning scheduled for live bluegrass music. Certainly, I could play the radio or put on a CD while we eat at home but that's not quite the same as live music. So, the Cooper Cafe offers properly prepared, yummy breakfast fare with live music and that combination makes this restaurant a unique draw.

Music for breakfast. You can't get much better than that

The food has always been fantastic. Always. The service is wonderful, the staff make you feel so welcome. They are great with kids, and my daughter loves it when they let her pull the chord for the train whistle. They have an electric train that has tracks mounted on the walls near the ceiling that runs around. Wednesday and Saturday mornings they have live folk and bluegrass music. How much better can it get!?

Cozy hometown diner! Patty melt is a favorite and so are any of the breakfasts. Makes you feel like you are at Moms and having home cooking.

I love Cooper cafe. Catch the lonesome moonlight trio on Saturdays. This is a magical Kalamazoo gem.

Nestled in downtown Kalamazoo, Brick and Brine specializes in cocktails and steaks, but they also offer a variety of menu options to fit all tastes. We celebrated my father's 70th birthday here, and it didn't disappoint. They offer a variety of spaces to fit small and large groups. We hosted 10 people in their main dining room, and it was the perfect ambiance. Their dinner rolls are complimentary, super fluffy and come with a side of black salted butter. We also started with the house salad, and I split two specials - a potatoes au gratin dish along with a dish called Jafar's Chicken. Both were incredible. I highly recommend venturing here for any occasion! Thank you, Kenzie and team for an amazing time!

The seating was uncomfortable- our knees were touching the underside of the table because the tables in the section are short and not meant to be dining tables for a full on sit down meal. My fiancé is 6' and his knees wouldn't fit under the table so he spent his whole meal eating hunched forward over the table. Service was ok. Food was mediocre.

600 is such a cute place for a lovely meal!…read more We have been multiple times but stopped in on a recent sunny afternoon for some lunch. 600 is so light and airy, we really love the atmosphere!! We had a really great waitress, I wish I would have gotten her name! She was doing the job of hostess and waitress to multiple tables, and doing it all very well! We ordered a chicken sandwich and a salad for our lunch entrees! Both were very good and presented very well! While the food is good and quality feels high - the price is also on the high side. For a sandwich and a salad, waters to drink, we spent over $50 for our lunch! Just something to be aware of! While we had time - the experience was not fast. Something to be aware of if needing a quick lunch. The restaurant was not overly busy but the wait was a little long to receive our order. I ordered a salmon salad - the menu nor the website specify if the salmon is wild caught or farmed. I would really love to know this information - the price would be much better reflected if it were indeed wild caught. :)

The service was on the slower side and could have used more attention to detail--coffee refills were missed, and we didn't have spoons to stir our coffee. That said, our server was kind and had a gentle, pleasant demeanor. The food overall was very good. Only one person in our group was disappointed--the chicken and waffles were described as dry, with the chicken coating lacking flavor. Everyone else enjoyed their meals, and the desserts were a standout; they were excellent and loved by all. One area that could use improvement is the upstairs bathroom. While it was well stocked with supplies, it needed cleaning. Clear signage for the upstairs restroom and perhaps a nice piece of artwork would also be welcome touches. Overall, a nice brunch experience with great desserts and room for a few improvements.

We visited on a Saturday morning for breakfast when most of our area was without power after some…read morebig storms rolled through. Admittedly our first choices were not open due to power outages. This is a new place that we have never noticed before. I believe this building used to house Theo and Stacey's and then Berries. The service was attentive and kind here, however our meals left us with a less than stellar opinion and a lack of desire to return. I can see from another reviews here that the owner says the food is mostly "house-made". I am not certain if this phrasing means the same thing as homemade, but none of our meals tasted at all homemade. I ordered the biscuits and gravy with the added option of eggs and potatoes for an extra $3. Nothing on my plate tasted homemade to my palate. The biscuits were not warm and tasted like a premade item, not like a fresh biscuit, at all. The gravy definitely had a canned taste and appearance - not flavorful or very warm. The eggs were fine, cooked to order. The breakfast potatoes did not look fresh cut and were undercooked and not seasoned as our waitress described. They definitely had a premade appearance. I have ordered biscuits and gravy all over this town, I'm not a rookie in this field. ;) My son ordered a Benedict. It was very basic, as expected, but with a bland, cold sauce. My husband ordered an omelet with the breakfast potatoes and toast. If you order sourdough toast it only comes with one piece, which is fine, but it's not true sourdough from a fermented starter. It appeared to be regular, thin bread from a packaged, pre-made loaf. He also commented that the potatoes appear to be out of a frozen bag, not a homemade appearance, taste, or flavor. The omelet was bland but they do provide salt and pepper as well as one hot sauce choice to flavor things up a bit. The coffee was very diner-esque. Lacking in flavor and strength. However our waitress kept our cups full and warm! There were a couple of larger groups present which kept the atmosphere quite loud during our visit. However the restaurant is cute and has quite a few tables to hold a good sized amount of patrons at once. With a tip our total for 3 breakfast entrees and two coffees was just shy of $60. I know that prices are on the higher side these days, but this was extremely disappointing for the food that we were served. There are so many wonderful breakfast restaurants in our area - another choice might benefit both the tastebuds and wallet! I try to be kind but honest in my reviews here, two stars is generous.

We recently stumbled upon this High Dive Kitchen and Bar - what a nice surprise!!…read more We've been in twice in two weeks and have found this spot cozy, super friendly, and very delicious!! Great menu with lots of variety! Great drink menu! Everything we've tried has been great!! This spot is definitely worth a stop! (If only the downtown parking situation wasn't such a beast! But High Dive is worth the feat of finding a nearby spot!) I highly recommend the wings - some of the best we've had in town!! We love doing half and half: lemon pepper and sweet heat with the ranch and blue cheese! Their fries are also way good!! Regular or their truffle style!! The bleu berry salad is my favorite entree, paired with the steak it's an absolute slay!!! It will keep me coming back!

Quite possibly the worst dining experience I have ever had…read more The restaurant smelled bad and it almost caused my wife to leave. That would have been fortuitous. Instead, we had to endure a staff that not only was rude, but willfully neglectful. She had only one other table and, yet, our server, Katlyn, never checked with us unless we forced her to acknowledge us. She avoided eye contact at all costs. Ten minutes with empty drinks and we finally got her attention. My wife asked for another beer and she ran off before I could even ask for another of my drink! The dinner was terrible. My wife's Blackened Bleu Steak ($32) was so bad that she took two bites and set it aside. The food was overcooked and salty. My Olive Cheese Smash Burger ($16) was the same. When we called for the check, the waitress did not even question that the food was nearly untouched on our plates. There are so many great restaurants in the area. Save yourself the hellacious experience of the HighDive Kitchen + Bar.
