To understand why its so special, you have to be kind of into wine and also a little adventurous. It's not for everyone. The place is run by a wonderful Italian couple who only speak Italian. Service is casual; it's normal for them to be sitting with other customers and talking. If you need something, you might have to ask. But here's why you should love it. One, they REALLY REALLY know Italian wine-- not just wine from the region (which is standard), but from all over. If you tell them what kind of experience you want, they will find the wine for you. Second, they have a lot of special small-production stuff. Third, they prepare a delicious tapas spread and its next to free (like 2 euros or something) with your wine. Finally, they'll open any bottle in the house as long as you're willing to get two glasses: that makes it the biggest, best by-the-glass wine list anywhere! We had five rounds in our last visit-- a Montefalco Rosso, an Aglianico, an Etna Rosso, an Valpolicella Riserva, and something else I don't remember. We loved everything, and it came to about €20 a person. You just couldn't do that in the U.S.. Anyway, it's our little secret but I hope others get to enjoy our favorite place too.

I love Spello so next time I will be sure to stop for wine and snacks.
