I had the Gulab Jamun for dessert and it was ok but it felt like it was from a tin. The service was a bit slow and due to a public holiday the place was packed and it took a while to get food. Each of the dishes was quite expensive (I thought so anyway) and dinner for two with water was €65 which felt a bit rich for a curry house. I would happily return here any day if I happen to be in Starnberg.

The Naan is hard, dry, lifeless, flat & thin. Rice feels plasticky. The mango veg dish Portion was meagre and I don't even want to talk about the rest of the main dish. If you are not here because of the location they enjoy for a night out for drinks, then save your stomach for a proper meal elsewhere. I mean the owner seems nice & friendly but please never forget this is a restaurant not a canteen. We paid restaurant price for what we normally eat in a hurry at an Asian canteen.

As I hunt for the ultimate Asian / Indian restaurant in Munich, I have learnt, be prepared to be disappointed, specially with a name like Mataji, as it means Mother in Hindi and, I am sorry, nothing comes close to my mums kitchen lol. This place did surprise me and, I really enjoyed my meal here and, will definitely come back. The owner is apparently Bengali and that would also mean a Bengali chef in the kitchen. Bengali chefs are renowned for great flavour in India and, this place had it in bucket fulls :-)) The food was mild and well suited for the local palette but, the flavour was great. I would give the food here 4.5 stars. I ordered the Klassik Thali from the menu (a variety of curries and condiments to try). It's always a good way to sample the cooking across a range of dishes, when in an Indian restaurant. It also gives you a good sense of the place. I asked for Chicken Tikka Masala and Lamb Korma. They included some Raita, Salad and a vegetable curry. The thali came with rice and naan bread. This is the first restaurant in Munich where I devoured the Naan bread, it was so good - 5 stars for the naan :-) The curries were really well flavoured and the meat was of good quality. I enjoyed every spoonful. There was nothing about the meal I did not like. They have an extensive menu with most classic North Indian dishes and some vegan & plenty of vegetarian dishes also. The rassogull for dessert was my first in Munich and, I had high expectations. Bengalis are the dessert kings of India and, whilst this one was ok, it could have been better and more squeaky, which makes it soft and chewy. The mango lassi here was to die for and, I absolutely loved it - 5 stars for the mango lassi. All in all a great experience. Service was friendly and, the lady who served me also spoke Hindi, which made selection slightly easier. Food is little more on the expensive side compared to many Indian restaurants but, if they serve quality like this, I would happily pay for it. I am glad I keep persisting and trying new places, once in a while you get lucky :-) a nice choice for Indian food in the neighbourhood.

And when I mean zero taste, it was so bland that I had to put a ton of salt on the food to make it taste palatable. I don't think that the crook ever tried the food that he was serving before he put it out. That being said, and unfortunately, I will no longer go there as a paying customer. Also have learned to cook Indian food (buying many books and experimenting). My wife and I always search for the best Indian in the city when we travel, and when we came back to Ganga, our minds were blown... again. First of all, we are Vegan and were Vegetarian when we first found out about Ganga, so our experiences are without any meat dishes. We tend to notice subtleties in our food as we are both cook ourselves and can pick apart flavors to recreate dishes. Ganga has again come through with some amazing dishes. The thing that sets Ganga apart from other Indian restaurants is that the food just tastes fresh. You can discern individual ingredients in the food. The colors are bright and the curry dishes aren't over cooked. The curry base isn't thick and bland like it is at other restaurants. Each dish has a UNIQUE flavor, instead of everything tasting similar. The spices are strong and fresh as well. We never leave the place without being absolutely stuffed and happy, that's for sure. As everyone should know, in München, every restaurant is proud of the beer they serve and have logos on the outside just to tell you what they serve. Ganga serves something you don't see too often in Munich, but it is a Bavarian beer, Kulmbacher. Out favorite by far is the Kapuziner Weißbier, and the Kapuziner Weißbier Dunkel. Such smooth, flavorful beers. Nothing is quite like it at all, very, very good. Lastly, the service, is very good. The staff is very friendly and it feels like a family owned operation. At least I know that two of the wait staff are brother and sister. They work quite hard, even when the place is so busy you can't find a seat. They have always been pleasant to us and they speak English well. Or they will even help us practice our German. All in all however, this restaurant is a gem. I feel very lucky to have found it in our travels and will be back every time I am in München.

The roti (called chapati here) was excellent and, it was light and freshly made, and I loved it. For dessert we shared a platter and it was not so good. The Gulab Jamun was great and adding mango was a nice touch but, the ice cream was a bit ordinary. All in all a pleasant experience that I would happily repeat. My stable of good Indian places in Munich continues to grow and, I am glad we tried this place :-)) I would stick to the main course next time and not bother with the rest.
