Proof, it it were ever needed, that it's not the food or the furniture or the carpet or the snazzy…read morebar area that makes a place. It's the vibe. You could walk into the Marine Bar and be understandably perturbed by what confronts you. 70's carpet, DIY bar, school dinner food, rickety furniture. But something about the place has an enduring attraction to locals and visitors alike. It's intangible. Maybe it's the darkness, the bar set as it is below ground level. Maybe it's the friendly welcome. Maybe it's the chuddy decoration - old ale posters which sell beer by telling you it will get you pissed -those were the days. Or the warm cosy feel of the place. Maybe it's just that you're most likely on a short break, somewhat relaxed and have finally found somewhere in Hunstanton with a bit of life. Whatever it is, it adds up to 'vibe' or buzz'. It's the sort of place you could quite happily hunker down in and spend the evening people watching and drinking yourself into a merry old state and still having change at the end of it for one more bag of Scampi Fries. Smart this place isn't. Good old fashioned fun it certainly is. Leave your pretentions at the door with the raincoat and order a Babycham from the camp as Christmas bar staff. It's gonna be a good night.

It's by far the best pub in Thornham, which might not seem like it's saying much considering the size of the town, but they've squeezed at least three of them into the area. Try the deals on the Pimms cups during the summer - one jug, four straws and you're as good as gold. As a 16th century pub, the ceilings are low, doorways are even lower and there are strange farming tools all over the walls. But enter the dining area and things are considerably spruced up. The menu is much more diverse than the pub's and every meal I've had there has been unfailing. Kids can play out back in the play area - much to the annoyance of the caravan owners directly behind it - and there's outdoor seating for when the sun decides to put his hat on. Never stayed in the rooms, though I know people who have and they've been quite pleased with them.

However, putting my pickiness aside it was worth paying just because of the location as I wanted to escape the hustle and bustle of city life, and this place ticks those boxes. Pub restaurant serves good food, although the service was a tad slow, but the meal was worth the wait in the end, as it was delish.

Despite the server gently steering me toward the Scotch egg, I went with the unfamiliar option. She was right -- while the pastry was fine, the filling was a bit cloying, and I didn't finish it. But then came redemption: the fish and chips. All four of us actually gasped when the plates arrived. I've never seen a portion like it -- a perfectly battered, beautifully fried fillet stretching well beyond the plate, served with a side of salt-and-vinegar "scraps," which were new to me and absolutely addictive. The curry sauce was outstanding. And I didn't have to worry about finishing it; everyone at the table was more than happy to jump in.

We spent a long weekend in Norfolk and were looking for a local place to have a nice evening meal…read more Whilst out we found a leaflet for the King William iv so decided to visit. Thankfully I called to book ahead as we got the last reservation for the evening. Having now eaten here I can understand why as it's very popular and with good reason. The menu is fairly extensive and includes lots of local produce from seafood to meats and game. The selection was so great it took us same time to decide what we were going to have. Everything ordered came exactly as we had asked and the food was wonderful. I could say that my starter mushrooms in garlic butter was a bit too generous but for the price it was excellent value. There are a number of different seating areas in the King William IV. It's obviously grown to meet demand. We had a fantastic evening, the staff were very attentive (yet not overbearing in any way). The Manager made it his job to ensure everyone was happy with their food and the service which added a nice personal touch. If we visit this part of the UK in the future we will definitely have another meal the the King William IV
