I've ordered delivery from Neuhaus several times lately and my team really enjoyed the food. Today, I ordered lunch for delivery; 20 minutes later, it was canceled by Neuhaus with no explanation and no contact from the restaurant. Just a note from Grubhub that it had been canceled. One of our favorite local cafes. After barely surviving the tornado in October, this small neighborhood establishment is working very hard to stay in business. You have to call ahead (no app like the chains!) but their attention to detail and safety, not to mention delicious food, is excellent. Shanna L and I went here for lunch a while back and while Neuhaus is clearly going through some sort of crazy menopausal/mid-life crisis identity issues, it works in their favor. The menu reads like a 'Hall of Nations' tasting menu with everything from NY style pastrami to omelets to chips and salsa to hot dogs to pasta to PB&J to. . .well, you get the point. And it doesn't stop at the food - the drink items range from Arnold Palmers and root beer floats to espressos to juice to beer, wine and liquor. And just when you think it couldn't get any more random, you can also buy sweet treats from the counter or buy some toys for the kids. Suffering from a decision freeze after scanning the menu for 30 minutes, I opted for the California Turkey Club on wheat bread and a side of homemade chips. I also had the option of subbing in turkey bacon. It wasn't a mind-blowing sandwich by any stretch, but it was very well prepared. Fresh lettuce and tomato, an even spread of mustard, fresh avocado, crispy bacon and fair distribution of turkey. . .tasty! The homemade chips were slightly thick but super crispy - just the way I like 'em (TWSS?). Yes, we did get a great deal of amusement from a small child licking the glass while his mom had a mid-day cocktail and yes, I definitely plan on making a return trip. read more

I have eaten at this cafe many times and I really have no complaints about the cleanliness or the food. I do have complaints about the service which has been repeatedly bad. This place is in my neighborhood and I've tried to frequent it since I like to support local biz. I sat outside today and the only time I actually saw my waiter was when he took my drink/food order, and when he delivered the food itself. I had to ask the busboy for water and never had a person come to the table to ask "is your meal ok?" or "Can I get you something else?" I actually wanted to get a dessert but that wasn't going to happen since my waiter was MIA. Meanwhile, I watched the table across from me get excellent service and full attention. I waited what I thought was a very long time to get a water refill. I know it had to have been at least 7 to 10 minutes. I then decided to put on my stopwatch to see how long it would take for the waiter or ANY staff to come to my table....18 minutes. So essentially, I waited almost 25 minutes and still no water, only my check. When I paid, I told my waiter it was the worst service ever. He said nothing and then I said "you have nothing to say?" He mumbled "I said I was sorry". No he didn't or if he did, he mumbled it under his breath. I asked to see the owner who was standing right there, and he said he'd get him. He didn't. I approached the owner and explained what happened. He attempted to apologize but I was over it at this point. I left and he followed me to a nearby business and tried to apologize again. He admitted that the waiter was TOO busy talking to the waitstaff and not paying attention to me. I repeatedly told him I was not coming back but he essentially said that I should return and if I get the same waiter, just ask for a different table. Really? I am only writing this because this is not the first time I've had this experience here but probably the 5th, and all with the same waiter who must work the lunch shift. In fact, I talked to my girlfriend tonight and she reminded me about how long we waited for the check when we last went there. My family owned restaurants and I worked at them many years. I know what to expect, and I'm rather lenient with what I do expect. This service, I find inexcusable. I'm a fixture at all of the restaurants nearby and they all know me by name so there are plenty of other options in my neighborhood. Unfortunately, Neuhaus will not be among the future selections. read more

Came once and the service was great even if the food wasn't. On the belief that maybe that was an of day i can back. This time not only was the food bad, i waited 20 minutes. When the food got there it was mediocre. I ordered a blt and the bacon was burnt and the bread wasnt toasted. There was a speckle of mayo and someone had gotten way overzealous with the lettuce. This is a quaint cafe in the Preston Royal northwest quadrant. This European cafe has limited seating, due to their retail segment. They sell delectable desserts and creative gift ensembles. The menu options are substantial and perfect for a quiet breakfast or lunch. Not a great place for kids, due to the small, almost cramped, space. On the plus side, the waitstaff is very courteous and professional. On the should be a plus, but most likely contributes to a minus, the owner is on site. Why a minus? He is there, but not focused on greeting customers as they walk in, walking around from table to table, checking on the timeliness of orders delivered to tables. The food, no real plusses. Oatmeal watery and appeared to be something like "gourmet instant." Served at room temperature, with cold blueberries, over sugared pecans and hard raisins. Cheese omelet not at all fluffy and you can walk across the parking lot to Einstein's bagels for the same bagel and a bigger smear of cream cheese for less money. If sky high layered cakes with tons of frosting and garnishes are your thing, you can wash them down with an espresso or two here. There's an extensive assortment of individual chocolates in artisinal flavors too, kept chilled. The dim lighting gives off a romantic vibe, making this a good date spot. I often see the cutest elderly couples here! They stay open a bit later than your typical Dallas eatery and they're a few doors down from Barnes & Noble, which is a big plus in my book. read more

Mediocre food? Are your taste buds out of whack? Neuhuas has been on my Delicious in Dallas list since it was located smack dab in the middle of the Galleria. Since leaving that amazing location... basically the best place to people watch while wining and dining... they took up shop in the Preston/Royal shopping center. It's still a great place to people watch and the food is still, in my opinion, delectable. I always order my favorites, a side salad and the fettuccine alfredo. The house dressing is really tasty and the alfredo sauce is so creamy. Despite the fact that I always get those two things, I always nibble of my company's plates. The greek sandwich is great, the tuna melt with motz is grrrreat and my dad always gets the dinner special with the grilled salmon. The service is hit or miss. Sometimes you have excellent service, sometimes it's not that stellar, but it's always packed and the environment is fun. Save room for dessert or some chocolates. I stare at the chocolates throughout my meal and then treat myself. They also have a huge candy selection and pre-packaged chocolates for gifts. My only complaint- the pickles are sweet pickles... yuck. Other than that, I will always be a fan of Neuhaus. read more

I like this place a lot because it's independent (as far as I know, I could be mistaken though). When you feel like having a slice of cake and coffee, this is much, much better than any Starbucks. I frequent this restaurant and have rarely had a poor experience, but today worried me in particularly. They do, however have quite an eclectic candy collection if you're into that. Just walked in to get a sweet snack. Employee behind the counter was very friendly. Surprised to see a black and white (rare in TX) so bought this and a brownie. The black and white was far from the best I've had but not quite the worst. The white icing side was hard and had zero flavor while the chocolate was good. The biggest blunder was the brownie which I can only describe as having two flavors: "sweet" and "dish soap". Worst brownie I've had., no wonder it's only about $2. Ordered using grubhub at 12:46. I got a text saying the food would be ready delivered by 1:55pm. The grubhub app stated it would be delivered by 4pm. For a half sandwich, salad, and fresh fruit, it shouldn't take more than an hour. The location was less than a mile from the delivery location. I am unable to cancel my order and it's now 4:55pm and have already paid and not gotten my food. I ordered for delivery for my fiancé while she was at work because I have used grubhub many times before for having food for her while I was at work as well. Neuhaus Cafe has failed completely for service. I will try and dispute the charge since I paid for food that was not delivered. read more

Neuhaus is a nice little neighborhood joint that is made substantially better by North Dallas' seeming fear of cute little cafes. I lived near Preston/Royal for seven years and didn't find more than one or two other places in a several-block radius that were good enough for repeated breakfast/lunch visits. The breakfast menu is slightly less than creative, but they make a pretty mean breakfast panini that I get every time I go. There's always an abundance of newspapers to read at the bar, and the coffee is pretty decent for non-gourmet brew. The tuna melt for lunch is really good and definitely worth a trip. Service is sometimes with a smile, but the guys that manage the joint are always helpful, especially when you get to know them. They also have a full-service bar for evening drinks, and a helluva chocolate and candy selection. Definitely worth your time, especially if you live in the cultural black hole known as North Dallas. read more

I loved this place; my wife said that the chicken salad wasn't as tasty as she had hoped. We originally came for the Belgian chocolates and stayed to eat at the cafe. Most of their choices are sandwiches; I had the Texas Dog (two hot dogs, more or less Chicago style). The service was very good and the food varied from very good (my wife) to excellent (me). Thanks to Groupon, i was educated and had the opportunity to try their dinner at a discounted price. Overall, it was a positive experience. I went to the cafe with my friend for the first time on 5/17. When I got the bill of approximately $32, I decided to round the number up to $40 because with 20% tips, it gives a very odd number. I checked my credit card statement today, I was charged for $40.81. I might not realize it, if I don't have a habit of rounding up my bills. First, I thought one might accidentally press wrong buttons, but buttons for 81 are not even close to 00. The one really bothers me is not the charge, but the dishonesty.
