I lived here for 2 years and loved the small community and the beautiful woods surrounding it. There was no mail distribution, so everyone met on Saturday mornings to chat and pick up the mail. Probably they still do. It is also full of history: the bridge over the Millstone River that was destroyed by Washington's troops, his headquarters on Laurel Avenue, the old cemetery and Presbyterian church, the Raritan-Delaware Canal, the old Sawmill, the Carnegie Lake - and we are only miles from Monmouth and Princeton where famous battles were fought.

I like the views and hiking options here. It's a great place to visit to explore Princeton's rich culture. There are documentaries for viewing and a guest sign-in book too. They have a Facebook page where you can see upcoming events. Just a really interesting place to visit. Very friendly staff.

It's a convenient place to park while you walk or bike on the nearby towpath. This spot had a nice view of the river and canal and is close to several good restaurants. The sign is getting weathered and the photo of the map in the middle is hard to see due to disintegration. The Battle of Bound Brook happened on April 13, 1777. The American garrison at Bound Brook was attacked by the British and Hessians. This whole area is important in Revolutionary War history and there are at least 6 other markers within 800 feet of this one.

It's a 4-sided clock tower located in the center of downtown Somerville, near the county courthouse. The words "Time to Remember" appear under the clock on all four sides. There is a steel beam from the World Trade Center standing vertically in front of one side of the clock tower that contains a plaque with the following inscription: The Citizens of Somerset County dedicate this Memorial to the thousands of innocent lives lost on September 11, 2001 and to the families that loved them. From this county, we remember and honor..... Thirty seven names follow. This very different 9/11 monument was dedicated in 2004.

The Princeton Battlefield Memorial was commissioned to honor the first victory of George Washington…read moreand the Continental Army against the regular British Army in 1777. From first conception in 1887 to dedication in 1922, the project took 35 years to complete due to lack of funds and artistic differences between the local civic groups in charge of selecting a site, retaining a sculptor and overseeing proprieties required by the Princeton town fathers. Ultimately, they settled on Frederick MacMonnies from the Paris Ecole Des Beaux Artes, who was grateful for the work. He in turn retained the services of the Piccarelli Brothers of Bronx, New York, the best stone carvers of their day, who had also completed the marble figure of Abraham Lincoln in the Lincoln Memorial, Washington, DC. On June 9, 1922, the dedication took place with keynote speakers MacMonnies, President Warren G. Harding, and many lesser luminaries. Given to flights of gilded oratory, Harding said in part: "...Here the genius of General Washington reached the height of its brilliancy in action. Here his followers wrote their highest testimony of valor. Here liberty-seeking devotion struggled through privation and unbelievable exertion, to gain the heights. The crimsoned prints of numbed and bleeding feet marked the route a pathway to eternal glory. Thither they trudged through storm and torrent; but from here, in the hour of victory, went our winged messengers to let all men know that liberty was safe in the keeping of her son's...." It is genuinely an impressive stone monument. Within its folded granite can be seen the dying General Hugh Mercer being supported by a nameless soldier. On top, the visage of General Washington looks ahead, seemingly seeing the results of the bloody fight and also perceiving where all this would end a few years on.

This imposing monument was dedicated in 1922, and features many delicate and intricate carvings on all faces. Check out the gorgeous image of Washington on his horse surrounded by dozens of his followers. The main inscription reads: "Here memory lingers to recall the guiding mind whose daring plan outflanked the foe and turned dismay to hope when Washington, with swift resolve, marched through the night to fight at dawn and venture all in one victorious battle for our freedom".

We come here almost every day with my 4-year-old daughter, so this library has definitely become…read moreone of our favorite places! She absolutely loves the children's room. There's so much to keep kids busy -- a play kitchen, puppet stand, LEGOs, little marketplace, toys, and kid-friendly iPads with educational apps. Everything is also very well organized, which I really appreciate as a parent. Their book selection is great too. We especially love the Wonderbooks and Beginner Reader section and almost always leave with a few books to take home. But honestly, one of our favorite things about this library is all the children's events. The programs are educational and fun at the same time, so the kids are actually enjoying themselves while learning something new. Their craft events are especially good. Even the smallest details are planned out so well, and you can tell how much effort the staff puts into preparing everything. My daughter always gets excited about what she made and bringing it home. The librarians are also very friendly and understanding with the kids. They know children are going to play, get excited, make some noise, and occasionally argue over a toy. They are patient about it, which makes a big difference when you're there with a young child. We genuinely love coming here. My daughter gets to read, play, learn, make crafts, and socialize with other kids. When your child actually asks to go to the library, you know they're doing something right! Definitely 5 stars from us.

Amazing place to get some quiet studying done. This place was my go-to spot while studying for my…read morelicensing exam. They have several cubicles (~20 or so) throughout the library with a plethora of outlets for all your charging needs. Several fast & free wifi networks available. They also have a quiet room with tables and a section with greenhouse-styled glass walls (as Pallabi G. mentioned), which doubles as an especially peaceful sanctuary when you're feeling the stress of studying for the biggest exam of your life and need to ponder about life. The staff initially seem a bit unfriendly (no hellos or even eye contact) however go above and beyond if you ever flag them down and need their assistance--anything from information to finding a book. Then again that's just jersey. Lacking of a star: other than 2 vending machines and 1 coffee machine (that were frequently out of order) there are no food/drink options. Any food options in the area are a bit of a drive, so I would suggest getting your morning caffeine on the way and pre-packing lunch if you plan to spend the whole day there. I also wish they opened earlier one or two days a week; they would almost always have a line at the door before their 10 am opening every day.
