I am completely aware that it is one of the best places in Taksim, but the relentless crowd of people trying to move formard, make their way to the front place, as if the area were a stadium, got on my nerves. I honestly don't know whether this is a resolvable problem, but something must be done as this "predicament" seemed to put me off since it directly and adversely affected my concentreation on the "beautiful music" playing on the stage.

It's a well-known concert hall (also a bistro during the day time) where one can watch successful musicians at any night. I have watched some really good bands, too. But enjoying a concert to the fullest was always a bit a of a challenge here. I think it happens because the place is a bit small. You know how it gets crowded in front of the stage when there's a concert of a famous band? Think that you're stuck somewhere in that crowd and you need to go to the toilet because you drank lots of mid-priced beers. Well, good luck my friend because you're going to need it! You should break through that packed crowd till you reach the left end of the stage because that's where the stairs (that will take you to the toilet downstairs) are! You'll make a lot of people angry, face with some dangerous situations where you might have just get crashed down and possibly miss a big part of the show in the process. (Same applies for coming back.) I never had the courage to do that so far, but I'm so ready to hear your stories about this adventure. The other thing is that there are some waiters who try to break through that crowd for selling drinks, too. It kinda wrecks the mood for a minute or two and that happens at least 5-6 times. But anyway, I'm really glad that this place exists. It's getting harder and harder to find a good place to listen live music in this city. Some tips: *The tickets are always on sale on Biletix but it's also possible to buy them at the entrance. *You can check their website (www.hayalkahvesibeyoglu.com) to learn who's going to play when. *At downstairs you will find Hayal Perdesi to watch theater plays.

Glad to see that's not the case. Unfortunately I forgot to check as we were leaving what the neighbouring restaurants are called but basically the entrance is on the north side of the street (right hand side coming from Istiklal) through a non-descript door with the words 'Emre Han' on it, you then have to go into the lift and press for the 6th floor. Ask, as we did, staff at other restaurants for help if you miss it! The interior is utterly charming, a sort of attic garden, almost like a picnic railway carriage. It was packed at 9pm on a Wednesday night and there's nowhere really to wait/get a drink but we were seated after only about 10 minutes (grab a menu to amuse yourself, it's a great read). You order by writing down the dishes you want on a piece of paper, which saves a lot of pointing and poor translation. We went for the cheapest 37.5l wine, which like all the Turkish wine we had was very good. We opted for three mezze and one casserole dish. Foolishly I didn't realised the meat wasn't minced in the one we picked, so was not that keen on that aspect of it but the cheese/bechamel/aubergine part was great, and my friend who does like chunks of meat assured me the whole thing was delicious. We also like the courgette mezze we got although it had too much yoghurt on it, rather drowning the vegetable. The cheese pastry we had was obviously delicious but for me far and away the best dish was a cauliflower mezze which was subtle in flavour, cooked perfectly and one of my favourite things we had in Istanbul. Would definitely return/recommend.

There is actually a corner table on the one end of their terrace that is ideal for parties of 2 (date night? Wink wink) because it allows you a magnificent view on two sides. We started with the cold entrée platter for one and honestly it was so generous that it was enough even though we shared. If you plan to have mains, the cold entrée plate for two maybe a bit too much. For mains we ordered the sea bass and the thai chicken. They were both good but I think if I went again (which I would be happy to) I'd go for the thai chicken. The sea bass served with noodles lacked just a bit of aroma. For dessert we ordered the homemade baklava served with goat milk ice cream. We thought that it was a bit under the mark compared to the entrées and mains. I ought to say one final word about the service. The service was exceptionally well. The servers were very attentive and even offered to change our dessert once they noted that we didn't like it as much as the rest. tl;dr: this is a great restaurant with exceptional service. The food is good but what really stands out is the view and the service. It might be one of the best price/experience quality restaurants in Istanbul. Being extremley close to my house and actually getting a reservation, I decided to jump in! On the outside, it doesn't look like much. Upon enterering it was much more posh ( company included) then I had imagined. We decided to stick with a few starters and go straight to the warm mezes. We got their grilled octopus, which was excellent, and their grilled calamari, which was to die for. To me this was a decent eating experience overall. Though loud inside and outside, I have come to expect that from any meyhane. If your looking for an intimate meal with a significant other, this isn't the place for you. The major con for me was not only the price but the rushed service. The waiter was practically dumping my raki into my glass, spilling two or three times on the table. Maybe becuase I wasn't wearing a suit or had a rolex on, they were trying to get us out of there as quick as possible! Still overall good food, but go down the block and go to Zipkin, a much better overall dining expererience!
