Unfortunately, I had a bad experience with this shop in San Sebastian. I bought a bag that was…read moresupposed to come with accessories. While I was looking at the bag, the saleswoman already tried to hide the accessories when I indicated that I wanted to buy it. I noticed this and asked her to put the accessories back in the bag. I paid for the bag, only to find out the next day--just before my flight back home--that she had taken the accessories out of the bag during checkout anyway and apparently kept them for herself. Unfortunately, I feel very cheated, especially since she seemed so friendly in the shop. Beware of these practices.

Our recent trip to Spain started out with a 6-day walk on the Camino Ingles. If we were just doing that, a small suitcase for hotel-to-hotel transfer would have been enough. This also confirms that we are not Camino purists who live out of their backpack from Albergue to Albergue. But since were were travelling after that for 3 weeks, we started off with 2 large suitcases and 1 small one. And at the point that we reached San Sebastian/Donostia about 2.5 weeks in, we both knew that we needed another suitcase for not only stuff that we had purchased, but for that weird expansion that occurs even if we didn't. I found El Turista in Downtown San Sebastian/Donostia and we found a nice carry-on friendly American Tourister suitcase that fit the bill. It was a little over 100 Euros for the 4 wheel model, which seemed right even with VAT included. And by the time we boarded our farewell flight from Barcelona to JFK, that extra piece of luggage was a just what we needed. El Turista store staff pretty much let us alone as we looked at various options from their large selection. Yet, when we needed assistance they were there. But to my surprise, this store has a robust inventory. I do my annual holiday shopping here for the man I know who is more European in heart than American back at home. Granted, he had spent childhood in Germany with his grandma and adult life in Scandinavia. It does not carry extra tall or extra large, so abnormal sized Americans (aka most Americans) won't fit the clothing, so if you have friends who are a Medium or Large but slim back home you are in luck, this is designed for European men, but mostly French and Spaniards and not Scandinavians. Read between the line, these basically are clothes designed for slim Mediterranean people with French sensibility. I also like their casual selection in addition to button down shirts, the colors are very pastel or clubby but understated and not loud like Italian or Spanish. But they most certainly are not American in style at all. I find their scarves and wallets total stand out. You don't get that kind of design elsewhere. While you are in Europe, mostly in France or Spain, you will find Celio as common as Gap back at home, but this being a French store for men, you will find American style cut. It is also just a men's store which I think is unusual. Your guy friends may need to live in metropolitan cities to feel confident enough to wear these clothes out, assuming they have zero body fat. But if they are qualified to do that, they will stand to get stares from other women as they look "European" and a bit too stylish. Ask yourself, do you have friends who could pull that look off? If you do, get them clothing from there. It will make women sway.

The storefront is characteristic of a childhood fairy tale, bright colors with fun font. The fairy tale continues on the interior, especially for kids. The store also hosts birthdays for children. There is quite a bit of room with tables and a comfy pink floral couch, lower to the ground so it is easier for kids to sit on it. They have books, puzzles and toys that children are welcome to play with while their family members enjoy the beverages. The desserts vary in size which is great for accommodating customers with different appetites. I ordered a croissant with a cafe con leche. They have great signage! There is a sign over the espresso clearly stating the milks on offer for coffee beverages. They also have their free WiFi information on a board. Very helpful! The croissant is seriously the best I've ever had in my life. The coffee was great. There is a back room with sale items, including child sized aprons and floor mats. They have clean bathrooms available for customers. I returned again today to buy a small stationary booklet created by a local artist. The shopkeeper kindly wrapped it for me in pink flamingo paper, free of charge. How nice is that? Needless to say, this is THE place I would frequent if I lived here. I love it!
