If you're looking to be in the city centre- this isn't the place. It's about a 15 minute drive from central town. Besides these points- the service here was wonderful (especially the lovely ladies at the front desk who were polite, helpful and had a good sense of humour). The hotel has a really lovely spa (with pool, steam, sauna and jacuzzi) which all guests can use (and it stays late/opens early). It also has quite a decent bar (as hotel bars go!) I had room service and the food was good- tasty and it arrived hot. I was also upgraded to a really lovely suite! Can't ask for more than that. It was a very reasonable cost to stay here, and although I was travelling for work, I really enjoyed my stay at the Belfry.

The service was so bad it was hysterical. Example 1. The Bistro bar. We took two cocktails. They were on special. Caiperoskas. Not bad. Funny little glasses. "Two more please." "We've run out of those glasses. How about a brandy glass?" "Sure, one of the funny little glasses was cracked." Glug, glug. It was 10:55pm and we came back for more drinks and for the pecan pie. "Two more please." "We've run out of limes." "Ok. How about a long island iced tea?" "Sorry, no gin." "OK. A vodka cranberry?" "Er. Let me check. Nope. No cranberry juice." "Hmm. Ok. From this cocktail menu, how many can you make?" "Well I've only ever made 3 cocktails in my life before. Let me take a look at the ingredients." After much ado, we ended up with two vodka and grapefruits or something equally disgusting. "Oh, and two slices of pecan pie please!" "Well it's just gone 11pm and we can't serve food." "Maybe if we asked nicely?" "Oh no, the chef's gone home." "We've been trying to get a drink for the last 8 minutes..." It went on like this until we gave in. The next night we ordered pecan pie from room service. In plenty of time for the chef leaving deadline stated on the room service menu. 20 minutes later, they called back and told us the chef had gone home. No pecan pie. Do not pass go. Do not expect too much from the food at the Belfry. Nice view of the B6002 from the hotel balcony though.

The facade is impressively modern, with black shiny cladding, awhooshy, Star Trek stylee automatic doors, and moody modern lighting. Plus points: - clean and tidy - friendly and efficient staff - a pretty serviceable menu in the Bar and Grill Foodwise, the dinner menu is pretty good, with an emphasis on meaty dishes; they advertise that all their beef is from Derbyshire, aged, etc., and I've heard no complaints. The kitchen also does a good line in starters, high points including calamari ( so simple, so easy to screw up), and a very nice game terrine. If I was to sum it up, it's an uncomplicated, and perhaps slightly old fashioned menu, but probably well suited to the clientele and with a serviceable wine list. The rooms seem to be large, reasonably comfortble, and boasting the mod cons one would expect lots of exposed brick and is-it-a-wardrobe shiny wood. On the downside:- my room had a monsoon shower, but no bath- the shower produced a stale-smelling trickle of water, not the gushy tropical downpour one would hope for - the sink appeared to be able to produce hot water, but not cold . Not great for shaving or brushing your teeth - breakfast, some mornings, appear to be not-quite-ready after the restaurant has opened; quite inconvenient if you're looking for an early start - the room service menu is rather staid and changes irregularly; incidentally the menus in the room have only a vague resemblance to what is actually available - the bar is fairly pricey £9.50 for a double G & T seems a bit steep, even to a Londoner. I could also whine about the room being over heated, the sheets over-starched, or noise in the morning, but in my experience these are true of most bigger hotels anywhere in the world, so it would be somewhat unfair.

Bar staff didn't have a clue, and even less when it came to serving breakfast. The waitress, who brought me the wrong breakfast order, asked me if I was sure I ordered what I ordered from her... I mean, seriously?? At the bar she really had no idea of any of the spirits or how to pour a drink - the lime slices were brown and manky around the edges and had clearly been cut days earlier. And the music in the bar was so loud we had to ask for it to be turned down, we couldn't hear across the table. The breakfast for 14 pounds was a laugh - the 'buffet table' was a joke. Coffee - o dear, stick to the tea. The rooms are actually quite nicely appointed, if small, but no wardrobe, just a nook, and no fridge, iron or ironing board. I got an ironing board sent up with an iron which promptly ruined the shirt I put it on as the plate was covered in some burnt substance I could not get off my shirt. I know you are thinking I should have checked, but I did puff the steam and wipe it on the board before use, however it seems the cotton was especially good at attracting the debris. [sigh] And then 5 pounds an hour for wifi - really?? And lastly the pillows are truly diabolical - it they cost more than 50p each I would be amazed, they were a shocker. When we went to get a coffee in the reception area we were informed we had checked out and had to pay cash (we hadn't) and I was not offered an itemised bill to check before they took my payment. All in all, you could do worse - but give it a hard think.

A very rare, and completely deserved, five star rating for this country house hotel on the…read moreoutskirts of Rotherham, and within easy reach of the M1 and M18 motorways. There are around 90 bedrooms in the complex, including a number of luxury suites, most of which offer views over the rolling countryside. The hotel do a booming conference and wedding trade, and as one of the few places in the area which offer genuine professionalism and quality, its usually booked long in advance. we've used the delegate facilities on a number of occasions, and its pretty much faultless. One of the conference rooms can cater for up to 500 delegates! Guests also have full use of the in house fitness suite, which offers a modern gym, 20m swimming pool, health spa, sauna, steam room and sun-beds. Staff take pride in their work and are happy to help. Food in the main restaurant is superb, and snacks in the public areas and room service is all of a high quality. Its probably a little more expensive than anywhere else locally, but you really do get what you pay for, and if you want a comfortable and quality stay in the local area, then this is the place to stay at.

Check in was easy and I was given the WiFi code without having to ask. Room was big enough for two and was clean, although quite warm. I opened a window before I went for dinner and it helped a little. Bar was really welcoming and I would have quite happily stayed there instead of venturing into town. Bed was good, shower worked with hot water (I had my shower at midnight though, not sure what it's like in the morning...) and the room was surprisingly dark considering it was opposite a carpark. 3 stars instead of 4 = I was told quite forcefully that breakfast was between 7am - 9am. I got there at 7am and breakfast wasn't ready to be served (it was self service). No hot items had been brought out, no pastries, no cheeses or meats. I hardly ever stay in hotels, so when I do I look forward to the breakfasts. Unfortunately I had to be back in the office, so although the hot food was brought out at 7.30am and the pastries a little after I didn't have time to try. Why state a time and not be ready by that time? That was my only disappointment.

The reception was a bit gloomy but had a nice look to it. The staff at reception were absolutely lovely and really helpful. Got given the password to the WiFi while checking in. The rooms were clean, as were the bathrooms. I'm am a bit of a germophobe so i'm very picky, but I was pleased with my stay. Window view was a bit rubbish but I've seen worse. Would recommend.

The chicken wings were surprisingly good though the club sandwich was standard. Breakfast was ok though they were out of a lot of options and didn't seem to refill them that frequently. My room was where I wasn't totally happy. I was directly next to the fire doors and could hear them quite well which wasn't too good when people decided to go in and out around 3am. I could also hear everything going on in the hallway. The beds were stiff as an ironing board. There was also a faint whistling sound from air blowing from somewhere. I also could hear people out in the parking lot. The room was clean though which is a definite plus. I'm not sure if I would stay here again. I'm a pretty light sleeper so it's very important to me that my room is near silent. I'm not sure what the hotels are like in the are so it may not be bad comparatively, but it's not for me.

I'm a vegetarian so the dinner menu could include some more healthy options as I don't fancy eating pizza or curry on a regular basis. Food was a bit bland. Staff were helpful. Room was clean.

Holiday inn is one of the hotel Chains that I personally trust ... But I found this one a bit below…read morethe expectation. It is a listed building with old and worn out rooms. My daughter's first impression of the place was that she started crying, because she thought it's a haunted house ha ha The hotel has a big parking space, it's even bigger than the hotel itself and while it has secret code to get out of the parking, the have a handful number of signs with disclaimer 'Your car is your responsibility dude' :P The rooms smells 'old and dusty as I said and it triggered my Sinuses right away. However, our room has a pretty new bathroom. and I thought for a second that I'm gonna sleep in the bathtub that night. Our breakfast was included with the room charge so, I think the hotel restaurant was pretty good (breakfast), with a nice buffet with very good service by friendly waiters.

Callow Hall used to be a private residence owned by my grand parents, and I lived there as a child…read more It is now a hotel, and Wildhive has done a spectacular job on the latest remodel. Our extended family met for a reunion and spent the week crying with joy at how beautiful our old home looks. The new addition of the glass atrium is a modern version of what the original architect had intended when it was built in 1849, but was never realized. The glass room used as a restaurant is brilliant. It has a classy, cozy feel yet allows diners to enjoy an unobstructed view of the rolling hills and fields dotted with grazing sheep, in a climate controlled environment. Well done Wildhive! The hives dotted in the wood behind is an excellent use of the forest and is cleverly done. We toured one cabin and were amazed at how trendy, modern, and comfortable they are. We stayed in my old room which had been updated to top quality standards. I have never slept in such a comfortable bed in my life. Somehow, Callow has been transformed into a hotel but has kept the feel of a home, which is the highest compliment I can pay. We ate a number of meals during our four-night stay and each one was cooked to perfection. The menu had a variety of yummy choices and we toured the diverse offerings. Five star all the way! A toast to the chefs for their talents. But it was the staff that deserve the greatest compliments. They made our family feel like we had come home and they are a credit to the Wildhive team. Everyone was amazing from the initial reservationist, Jane, to the general manager Jeremy, the bartenders, the waitstaff, the housekeepers, and of course, Dup, the right-hand man/valet/everything else, who became a friend. Callow Hall was the highlight of our trip to Europe. We cannot recommend enough, a stay at this magnificent place. Thank you Wildhive.
