    Pepper steak

This place is better than most Chinese restaurants from most Chinese area such as Alhambra and Chinatown. If you're looking for some fresh and juicy Beijing pie or just dumplings you can't go wrong with this place. I would say it was way better than other place that claim to serve the soup dumplings...*Tip: I suggest not to cut it in half the juice will flow out. Just pick it up and tear a small hole and sip/suck on the juice. The black pepper steak was very peppery but has a little too much onions. Overall, I will definitely come back to try the different flavors of the pie and try their dumplings.

I had lunch today at the newly opened New Chicken Chinese restaurant. This location has a long history--it was originally Golden Chicken Inn, first opened in 1929, and now under new ownership with just a name change. The interior looks almost identical to before, keeping that nearly 100-year-old charm. I ordered Mongolian Beef, House Fried Rice, and a Beijing Pie. * The meal came with complimentary soup. I asked for tea and water; however, the tea wasn't included and was later charged at $3.75. * The Mongolian Beef was ordered mild-spicy. The beef quality was excellent--tender and flavorful. Compared to other places, it was less sweet, and it was cooked more with onions than green onions, giving it a lighter taste. * The House Fried Rice was a combination with beef, chicken, and shrimp. It had a clean, less-oily flavor, though the taste itself was average rather than outstanding. * The Beijing Pie was filled with beef, chicken, and shrimp, and took about 15-20 minutes to prepare. It was full of hot juices, so I recommend biting into it carefully rather than cutting it in half. Overall, the food was enjoyable and the server's service was excellent. My rating today is 4.5 out of 5. Next time, I plan to try their dumplings and wonton soup. The only downsides: parking is street only, and the restaurant is on the second floor, which may be inconvenient for those who have trouble with stairs. Still, it was a peaceful weekday lunch, and I really enjoyed soaking in the atmosphere of a restaurant with a century of history.

Kung Pao Shrimp Came with steamed rice Egg flower soup not pictured

So glad to try NEW CHICKEN , after some dark days it seems to be BACK! I ordered the Kung Pao Shrimp which came with steamed rice and yummy egg flower soup. I enjoyed the refreshing hot tea that I was served while waiting. They seem to specialize in a "Beijing Pie" and possibly dumplings as well which i have not yet tried. I did notice the dumplings can come either steamed or fried. The menu is fairly straight forward but certainly has some intriguing and seemingly authentic dishes, that are calling my name. Pretty sure they are open late, past 10 pm, which is a huge plus if you work until 9 pm and can still get some solid Chinese. Good vibe here so far The restaurant manager is very welcoming. If you used to love Golden Chicken Inn and have been missing it, it's a green light to give this one another shot. I'm glad I did!

Beijing Meat pie!! I'll get an order every time we go!

The star item was the Beijing meat pie. All of the food was great, but we accidentally ordered things all in the same flavor profile. Next time we will try some orange chicken or Mongolian beef. You can tell that everything is house-made-- it's fresh and delicious. We can't wait to go back!

This is THE BEST General Tso's chicken I've ever had. Placed an order to go online and when I went to pick it up the guys we're very nice and welcoming. The portion size was great too! 10/10 will be back again! Best chinese food place in Oxnard hands down!

Another amazing meal prepared by Lee! This time we chose the pan-fried sole dumplings, orange chicken, and of course, the ultimate dish here, lamb and green onion Beijing pies. The dumplings had so much flavor, and as recommended by the server, pan fried was the way to go. Thank you New Chicken!

First time going since Golden Chicken Inn closed. Was hesitant but saw other reviews & thought we would try it. It was absolutely delicious! The food was fresh & hot! Service was amazing! Complete different than Golden Chicken inn but worth the try! The chef & staff were very friendly! Definitely going back!

I came here around 3pm and it was very quiet. I was greeted by a super nice gentleman who explained the menu to me and provided recommendations. I got different dishes to try and I was really satisfied and happy with the food. I totally regret not trying the dumplings. I will be going back just to try the dumplings. The pork fried rice was my favorite. I did take my food to go but next time I will go and dine in. I think my kids would enjoy the really cool set up.

    Patties and fried rice

Didn't disappoint!!! Being around since 1920s. Little hole in the wall - upstairs. One chief so please be patient when dishes come out. We had the fried rice with noodles and I added pineapple . Mario is super friendly and chatted about the restaurant's history. The patties were amazing!!! Big portions also!!

The booths are still there, hasn't changed much since Golden Chicken Inn.

There were a couple couples that look like they're on dates. Service is really good here. And we ordered all the food we wanted to try. It seems like they tried to limit the chances of the cyclospora parasite since no one has a definite source yet (Mongolian beef usually has raw green onions but they subbed wok fired yellow onions). But some stuff they kept the cilantro and green onions (bc they were cold dishes) The pan fried dumpling would have been good if it didn't have so much Ginger.. I'm not too into Ginger but the dumpling was nice because it had the juice inside of it and the texture was nice The refreshing woodear is a cold dish that has a chewy/crunchy texture. The soy sauce/vinegar flavor makes it refreshing when the other foods get heavy. Spicy beef slices were not that bad, but I prefer more of the spicy szechuan flavor (numbing/tingly feeling). The cilantro and green onions also provided good flavor The beef and onion pancake reminded me of mushu beef, it had the same wrap, hoision sauce flavor with meat and veggies-green onions. It also had good amount of meat Hunan beef was ok but wife enjoyed it. Wife's cooking prepared me for the peppers...is it a jalapeno or a green pepper...Russian roulette if you can't handle spicy. The Mongolian beef had reg onions instead of the green onions. Lots of onions..but I can't be mad bc the onions had the wok fire flavor, which I enjoy and not many places do it. The spicy eggplant with hot garlic sauce had lots of woodears, the eggplant was a little more on the sweet side, and the eggplant had a little bit of a crispyness to it. The salt and pepper shrimp almost reminded me of fried cake batter. It had some sweetness to it so it confused me cuz I was expecting something savory. At the end of the meal we had our fortune cookie, which seemed like it was more of an ad than a fortune.. sneaky Fortune Cookie company. Overall this place was pretty good and worth trying, especially since they have great service

Well indeed it's really good. Pack with flavor not spicy but just enough kick. Very well. Now, this place has the best Dandan noodle, even better than the one in Monterey Park or Alhambra. Best part is, its even good when it's cold. Garlic pork ribs. I was thinking like a riblets but it's more like garlic fried pork chop. Not what I expected but it's delicious. Fried pork dumpling. The meat inside is very succulent. Thumbs up. Can't skipped the XLB. I must say that the staff are very hard working and efficient. Thanks. Will be back soon.

I hate to leave a bad review because I know restaurants are struggling like all of us, but with the price of everything these days, this almost $80 meal for 2 was going to be a treat. Choose wisely where you spend your hard earned $ these days. The soup choice was incorrect, the paper wrap chicken was ok but the 2 fried shrimp and egg rolls were bar b doll sized! Included fried rice had nothing but brown color. Our 3 flavor chow mein was greasy but dry?, gummy and mostly flavorless, lacked any discernible vegetables and had just a small amount of meat. Craziest of all, the sweet and sour chicken came as 2 flavorless sliced, battered and fried chicken cutlets and a container of a small amount of basically raw veggies in what tasted like a cornstarch slurry with ketchup and a bit of pineapple juice added. My Sis called the restaurant and they offered to comp an item with next order, but with the amount of restaurants in Ventura that go above and beyond on a consistent basis, there won't be one. We both have spent some time in food service so this almost double hurt knowing that we would've been a lot happier with a big order of Panda Express!!
