I was contacted right away and paid my deposit, then we scheduled a time for the guys to come out. Then he asked if he could push it back. I said okay sure, but wrote that I was a little worried because what they needed to do was related to a renovation that was going to start like 6 weeks later. His guys came out and couldn't remove the radiator. Second delay, okay fine, but the project was still more than a month away. But then he couldn't schedule them to come again for another 2 months. I said I would do it myself and I would like my deposit back, but he just stopped responding. He was completely unprofessional with me. He committed to doing the job--knowing all of the constraints--and then couldn't even start until after my project was finished. read more

I called this business to ask for some guidance with quotes and schedule a service. I mentioned that I needed a couple radiators replaced, and the guy on the phone literally laughed at me. He said, "Why do you think that?" in a very rude tone. Then when I tried to ask for quotes he said all their pricing is online and would not give any of the numbers over the phone. I was so happy with the job New England Steamworks did on my system tune up, I had them back today for some work to help make my system more efficient. Nick and Patrick showed up right on time, they were pleasant and professional, worked quickly and quietly, (so quiet my dog didn't realize they were here) and cleaned up after themselves. I don't think I can stress the difference between your average gas/oil provider and a specialty steam service. Can your local guy keep your system running? Sure, most likely, but they'll lack the knowledge / expertise to get the most out of your system. The cost of home heating isn't coming down anytime soon, if ever. If you have steam heat, make the investment to have these guys come out, it'll save you a lot in the long run. read more

We were extremely pleased with our experience hiring NE Steamworks to replace an old radiator. We had an extremely old and strange circular radiator in our dining room that took up a substantial amount of floor space. The paint on it, which was likely lead paint, was chipping off significantly. Ryan from NE Steamworks was very responsive over email and helped us choose an appropriate replacement radiator that would be more traditional looking and much slimmer and could provide a similar amount of heat. They painted the new (but used) radiator white and made it look brand new. The purchasing process and the scheduling process were both easy. Bought my home in December 2021. Thanks to the former owner who apparently did little to no maintenance on the heating system and failed to mention on the disclosure that the radiators and pipes banged and clanged very loudly, I inherited a very noisy heating system and dirty boiler. After 2 visits from Steamworks and charges totaling $1043 my radiators and pipes are still banging and clanging. The first visit they did a good job cleaning my boiler which was filled with rusty water (thanks former home owner for not getting your annual heating maintenance before handing over the home). After being told "they are experts in their field of steam heating systems", I am not sure I would have them back. Maybe they are just stringing me along trying to get more money out of me and don't really know how to fix the issue. I think I will just give up on them and try somewhere else. I am currently doing the research on what the problem may be on "This Old House". Perhaps a plumber could fix the issue and could just complete the job in a timely manner for less money. read more

These guys know steam. They've done yearly service on our gas furnace and I've had them back to fix a few radiators that had been neglected by previous owners. They have a good online appointment system and have always arrived during their promised window. read more

They do have a long schedule to start of work because of the type of custom work they perform it's tough to just hire someone off of the street. About an hour later, they said they finished and called me to look at my boiler. Looks like nothing was done to me and they charged me $500.??? Don't contact these guys. read more

In my opinion, it would be a huge mistake to do business with this company. You might as well be requesting identity theft and spam, in my opinion. We scheduled an assessment and it took forever to get a tech to come. On the scheduled day they gave us a very wide window for service (more than four hours.) Up until that point, we had received multiple text from the company. After waiting over 7 hours for the tech, we checked email and there was an email saying essentially, "Gee, we're all sick. We'll get back to you." Finally, they arrived. The tech was proficient, if a little brusque, but I was overall impressed with the service. I'm contemplating a big job that would involve redoing all the radiators in the house. I asked him to show me on the web site how I could find out about radiator replacement/refinishing. You have to give your contact info to get to the pages. The tech got lost multiple times in the software. In that process, I had to resubmit my info (you can't get into the "account" presumably created from the first contact, you have to resupply your info every time which is a HUGE red flag from a database perspective - which I know because I have been a technical trainer for over 25 years and I specialize in cyber-security.) I didn't think anything of it until I started getting multiple emails from them prompting me to "complete my order." There was no way to tell the software I didn't have an order to complete. You have to "complete" the order by giving a reason such as you changed your mind etc. none of which applied to the situation. Personally, I REALLY hate companies that record my info and then try to get me to complete an order. It feels a lot like an invasion of privacy. Most companies will set this "follow-up" email to once or twice. Prior to this, I have never seen any company send these emails daily for three days concurrently. It was clear to me these prompting emails would never end, so I finally spent my time (of which they had already wasted copious amounts) to "cancel" the "order." I then sent the company an email which I intended to be helpful. I wrote: "I clicked on your web form because the tech was showing me something. I don't appreciate getting emails multiple times per day prompting me to complete an order I never wanted to begin with. I respect wanting to not lose a sale but this many prompts in a short period of time is not generating any good will from the customer. I will certainly create an order when I have a need you can meet. Just some feedback from a (already completed an order) customer." I'm a native of RI. Having lived here my whole life, I don't think my response is far from typical. Here is the reply I got from the owner of the company: "Apologies, and thank you for the feed back. However, we have not sent you "multiple emails per day". Just one a day over 3 days. The process is generally referred to as marketing, and our guess is that it's not something you are unfamiliar with. At the bottom of each email is a link Unsubscribe From This List. Sounds like you should click on it..." If you can't develop a web site that can give customers basic information without collecting PII, that doesn't sound like marketing to me. In fact, it is DIRECTLY in contrast to technology best practice. While Rhode Island does not provide this level of privacy protection for citizens, had I been a European visitor or a resident of CA with property in RI, I'm fairly sure this company would be legally in violation of California or EU privacy laws. Further, I think it's reasonable to conclude, giving the company the benefit of the doubt, that if the web site has not been purposely designed to collect information which the company does not need from someone casually browsing the site (which I would call "bullying" not "marketing"), that there is a general lack of technical expertise in web site design. (Which I also teach.) If they have not hired a competent web site developer, it's unlikely they hired a competent database administrator. Ironic since I could tell by observing the tech that they have invested money into their credit card processing software. (Although it wouldn't surprise me if there was a PCI-DSS violation somewhere; a company who cares so little for customers is unlikely to be respectful and careful with those customer's private information.) Based on that, I would be very alarmed at knowing that any relative or close friend of mine had submitted their information via the contact form on this web site. There aren't a lot of companies who specialize in radiators and steam boilers in this area. But there are companies that do this work in Rhode Island that are not Steamworks. I have never interacted with a company who, when offered genuine feedback, responded with a veiled "fuck you." I can only imagine how I would be treated had there been a real problem. read more

Evan and Patrick were the crew that came today to service our heater. Steam heating is new to me in our old home and I had lots of questions and Evan was very patient in answering them. They also made sure the radiators were "pitched" properly and changed valves to some that were very noisy (hissing). Evan, shared that valves could be bought online cheaper but since these systems were new to me, I paid the extra cost for them to repair. While it took a long time to get an appointment, signed up in Aug and its now March, they did a great job and service. I'm guessing since it was an annual service checkup thats the reason it took so long to be seen but if there was something wrong we would have been seen sooner. Will use them again. read more

I'm very happy with my service; beginning of last year had issue with water leaking from radiator that was not remedied properly by standard plumber. After looking them up several times I was hesitant to call fearing "specialist" pricing and experience with contractors not following through or too busy to take on the work, but knew I needed a steam heat specialist. Ryan was very professional rendering a consult and estimate; I did have to wait about a month after the consult for service but so far so good; the gentlemen who did the repairs were professional and personable. The radiators in our house have been banging for months and we tried everything (leveling, installing new vents, etc) and even had another company come and inspect. The other company was just going to replace valves (which we had already done) and didn't even look at the boiler- which led us to look elsewhere and fortunately we found New England SteamWorks. One 1 hour maintenance visit of our boiler was all it took and the banging has stopped and the house is nice and warm (and quiet!). Excellent customer service. The only downside was the wait on their service schedule, but the results were worth it. read more

I think New England SteamWorks is a very needed service in Rhode Island and across New England. As one who values old homes (NE has many) and wants to preserve them, my steam radiators are my pride (I had them sandblasted and repainted when I moved in) and joy (I love the soothing hissing noises). Recently I thought it was a good idea to have my system checked and I needed to repair two leaky radiators. SteamWorks' technicians were competent, honest, and very professional. They fixed one leak and we are on the hunt for new radiator to replace the leaking one. I am so happy with these guys--and they are coming back to replace a vent/pipe in the basement to make my system more efficient. PS: Before I moved to this home I had forced hot air and I was always itchy and dry, even though I ran humidifiers. Those issues are now gone thanks to my beautiful (and yes historic) steam radiators. read more

Just had a great experience with New England SteamWorks. I needed to find and install a traditional radiator in a new house where a few of the radiators had been removed by the previous owner. They were able to provide me with a refurbished vintage radiator, install it, and add new hardware to make it run efficiently. The radiator is perfect for the room.
