Well, it turned out that I was going to stay here for a lot longer that I expected because even though it was going to take a little time for my meal to be cooked, as soon as I sat down I heard my name called out and sure enough, sitting at a table around the corner, were a group of friends. The steak was okay, but not really the best that I have, but the friendliness and helpfulness of the staff certainly made up for that. I also have to admit that it was a pretty nice pub, with a typical country atmosphere, and while they did have a craft beer on tap, it happen to be James Squire, so I tend not to consider that to be a member of the craft beer family.

I'd heard that there were plenty of restaurants to choose from along Piper St & there were, but a bakery, the Little Swallow Cafe & one other eatery were the only places open on a Monday morning. So we found ourselves at the Little Swallow Cafe. It's a lovely little cafe, with a good breakfast / brunch menu. Not so many options that you feel overwhelmed by the menu but still plenty to choose from. Both of us were very happy with how our eggs were done, & we shared a sourdough toasty, yummy all round. I enjoyed my coffee & although my husband grumbled about the "girly" cup his tea was served in, I thought the mixed cup & saucer (local op shop finds I guess) served on a pretty little tray were a nice touch! Overall a recommend cafe for breakfast or a coffee to go.

Quaint cute little cafe tucked away just enough off the busy main street to offer a relaxed and comfortable cafe opportunity outside the city. That meant that a couple of orders (which unfortunately included mine) got missed in all of the bustle. However I am really appreciative of how the staff handled the situation, especially since they made my straight away and gave it to me gratis (namely because I wanted to go and have a bit more of an explore of Kyneton, and time was slipping awa - as it always does). Having lived in the area for ten years and returned to Melbourne I was almost crying tears of joy at a reasonably well priced and funky venue that has erupted onto Piper St. It's not the usual sandalwood hippy funky seen blossoming then shrivelling into it's own death that we usually see on Piper St. Nor is it the upper class "pub grub" that has taken over this side of town. It's down to earth, honest soul soothing food at a reasonable price. You don't need to be earning the big $$$ to enjoy a meal here. There's burgers and tacos, plus the usual sides. I opted for the smaller Minor Toms burger with fries. $12.50 and I couldn't finish the fries. The whole room was raving about the burgers. The space here is tiny and well utilised. The decor is tex-mex meets country Victorian mountain ranges paintings. With a few inspired day of the dead characters. And it works. It really works. I'll be stopping by here again sometime soon. I guess coming up to Kyneton has exposed me to that trendy country atmosphere, something that I haven't seem all that much in my other forways out into the bush. As for this pub I have to admit that it's pretty cool, and my friend's whom I found playing a game of pool out the back, thought so as well. They have a decent selection of craft beers, though it isn't a large as some of the inner city offerings. However, what I have come to learn from my travels in the country, is that the staff here are incredibly friendly, and more than happy to help you out.

The French inspired cafe deli is located in the Kyneton CBD and has plenty to offer - aside from really good coffee. Delicious meats and cheeses will surely catch your eye. They serve delicious hot chocolates (and babycinos), and really yummy sweet cakes, slices, tarts etc. I was also very impressed when they replaced my hot chocolate for free after my 3 year old son bumped it and spilt it all over me! On the counter near where you pay they also have an assortment of wrapped chocolates and stuff too. There are tables outside and lots of space for you to sit there with your dogs, kids or both! All in all, a nice place and I will return next time Im in Kyneton.
