We went for the main menu though, we all ordered the Highlander burger for a main, and two of us had meatballs (very similar to a tapas Albondigas as it turned out). Great, friendly service from the young waitresses. The meatballs were with us in no time. My father really liked his, I really liked mine as well, well except for the temperature, they were lukewarm at best. Unfortunately this only goes to prove they weren't cooked fresh, as my father's were hot. Tut tut! The flavours were great though, tight balls with a spiced tomato sauce with a cheesy layer, even the Spanish and Italians don't do them this good! And then the burgers, quite similar to the local legendary in HRC Glasgow, they had haggis and creamy whisky sauce on them, but also onions and mushrooms. Dare I say at least as good as the Hard Rock's in fact. The burger was tasty and held together well and the chips were nicely done. My only criticism would be the roll, it was a bit too quick to fall apart. A star off for the lukewarm starter and the roll integrity, but otherwise a great lunch!

It is easy to find as it is pretty much the only restaurant/bar in that area. It also has its own beer garden and in the summer this must be a plus. I believe that this building was once an old Mill and you might think so from the name it got today :-) Inside the floor is covered with typical Scottish designed red carpet, dark furnishing, wooden benches and beams. There is no doubt the restaurant downstairs has its charms. On the other side of the room, away from the dining tables there is a small bar with lots of different whiskey choices. Upstairs you will find additional seating and a small whisky bar with lots of different whiskey's on offer and for sale. The most expensive one costs £1500 Highland Park and last week they sold a £3000 special edition of some sort. No worries, you can also buy affordable whiskey from well known brands. Our voucher deal offered a starter and main course for a very good price. We ordered Shrimp salad and baked brie as a starter. The brie was soft and filling (you get two pieces), served with cranberry sauce. There was no brie spared. As a main we ordered Chicken Fajitas and it came with 3 sauces (salsa, sour cream, guacamole). Not only this, the chicken was served still on a hot plate, sizzling in delicious spices hot and mild, garnished with peppers and onions and a delicious sauce of some sort, which made the taste even more delicious. We also decided on coffee and with it they served a small piece of fudge, which was such a nice gesture. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. It is a very busy place and best you book a table before turning up unannounced. I will be back ! Whoop

My lemon sole, a special of the day, was utterly tasteless, and didn't have the slightest hint of lemon. Not even a lemon wedge. And it was raw in the middle. Yuck! The worst part of our experience was the absolutely horrendous service, which was so incredibly slow that it was obnoxious. Waitresses buzzed past our table in their hurry to other tables, while we sat for an eternity. The only explanation I can think of is that my husband is Black, and we've encountered this issue before at restaurants. In any case, the service was downright inexcusable. I wouldn't ever go back.

There's a rotating array of guest ales, that all the staff seem to be clued up on and have a real knowledge of if you ask them about one of them. The regular taps are all fine choices too, so you can't really go wrong if you're an ale drinker. The food is top notch too, and reasonably priced to boot. This is probably my favourite place in Lanark to waste some time, and well worth a look if you're in the locality. Check in advance to see if they're having one of their regular ale or cider festivals, and then it's definitely worth it!

The service proved to be very poor. Wine only arrived after the starters were finished and then only after we had requested it. When it did arrive it was just deposited on the table, not poured, no tasting offered. The table nearby was possibly less well served, after 40 minutes the starters came out, and the mains took over 75 minutes from them sitting down. We had empty glasses on the table whilst serving staff went past at least a dozen times, we eventually asked for them to be removed. When our food finally arrived the food is actually quite good: my mixed grill was quite tasty, but my partner's halloumi was undercooked (not crispy or squeaky) and the tzatziki didn't taste of mint or have a kick of garlic and lemon which is very disappointing, it tasted more like tartare sauce! The creme brulee let the side down again: the 'dipping strawberries' on top with dark and white chocolate were lovely, but the sugar on top of the brulee wasn't caramelised, so no crunchy top although the custard beneath was good. Overall a strange mixed result. Perhaps if they replace the front of house staff things would be better, but the kitchen needs to work a little harder too We probably won't return for a meal, but if you fancy a nice drink by the canal on a good day recommended.

Nice canal side pub with a big garden…read more Whilst this is a lovely pub it is very over-priced. When all said and done, it's a village pub that charges London prices for both beer and food. The food is quite nice to be fair and the staff seem friendly enough. The pub itself boasts a great canal side location which is fantastic in the summer months watching the boats go by. The interior is fresh and welcoming and the locals are friendly. I will visit again but I won't be able to drink as much as I would like to due to the extortionate prices of their ales and beers. Not sure if I would eat there again as their are cheaper options in the area that are just as good.
