It is beautifully restored! Docents were in each room. They were very knowledgeable about the home. It holds lots of fascinating stories. George and Martha Washington celebrated their anniversary in the small ballroom on the 2nd floor. A placard also highlights the hidden labor during the early years. The garden is beautiful, the house well kept and the guide even gave us a full tour before the wedding started. I love history and to be able to tour a home of a wealthy colonial really put a lot of things in perspective for that time. The house itself is gorgeous, some work has been done but for the most part it's almost all the same as in the 1700s. Just a great piece of history that I'm glad the city of Philly held onto!!!

We were entertained by the lovely Vessna Scheff. She sang originals and pop favorites with her beautifully unique flair. Check her out here https://www.vessnascheff.com/. The children played with the Kids yes they had young goats to pet. LOL...A creative artist offered free face painting for the children and they loved it. There were a lot of donated treats made of strawberries and strawberry combinations. Most of all there were lots of free strawberries to eat there or take home with you. There are a lot of things to see here in this part of the park. The grounds are lovely and the flowers are beautiful, the Mansion is magnificent! During the festival there was a free tour of The Strawberry Mansion House. The narration of history was very interesting and delivered with a colorful flair by the wonderful Ty. He spoke of so many Philadelphia 1st's, truly fascinating. I hope this festival continues to grow as I will make sure to be time next year.

I came here through a 52 Philly Firsts event and honestly learned so much. This is the oldest…read moreBlack-owned church in the United States, founded in 1794 by Richard Allen, who was formerly enslaved and went on to become a minister, abolitionist, and the founder of the AME Church (literally me taking notes at the beginning of the event to put here lol). The history really sticks with you and does not feel distant or abstract at all. Mother Bethel played a major role in the abolitionist movement and the Underground Railroad, and it has clearly stayed an anchor for the community for centuries (Did I mention this was also part of the lecture, from a different speaker). You can feel that continuity when you are there. It is not just a historic site, it is very much alive. What stood out the most was the atmosphere. There was singing during the event and it was joyful, powerful, and full of soul. People were clapping, swaying, and singing with their whole hearts. It did not feel like a performance at all. It felt real and communal. You could tell how much love and pride everyone has for this church. Downstairs there is a small museum space that is absolutely worth seeing. You can view original pews, historical artifacts, and the tomb of Richard Allen himself. It really puts everything into perspective and ties the spiritual side of the church to its historical impact. The staff and parishioners were incredibly kind and welcoming. They were happy to answer questions and clearly care a lot about sharing the church's history and meaning with visitors. I am not Christian, but I still felt the warmth and sincerity here immediately. This was one of the most meaningful experiences I have had in Philly. Highly recommend visiting if you get the chance.

Beware...if you need to focus, you're rolling the dice. Sometimes it's good and other times it's…read morefrustrating!! Seems like it's gotten worse. This has to be the most inconsiderate customer population in the surrounding area. Why do people feel they need to have conversational talk--in person & on cell--in a library!! Don't bother taking to the staff, totally useless on this issue. They don't want to hurt snowflakes feelings. I've talked to the staff in person and sent numerous emails/feedback submission thru the BCLS online system. Will it hurt to place simple table signs to keep your tone to a whisper and no cell phone conversations (only in the lobby area). I'll be satisfied with a regular announcement on the PA, at least your brain will zone that out over a short period of time. I think I will start a campaign, take and post a picture of self-centered, inconsiderate, and annoying people so I can share it with the library staff as evidence to change their policy and enforce it.

Me(32) and my nephew(3) came in 4/15/25 3:20-4:25pm He really likes playing with the marbel run…read morethat you have for the kids. We have come in almost once a week for the last school year. The librarian that we always see is amazing She makes my nephews day. The librarian today (who's desk and computer where facing the sitting area where the marbel run is, not the computers for library patrons.) was not a lovely person to meet. So when we met this librarian to ask her for marbels for the run, she had spilled beads allover her desk the floor ext. My nephew did not hesitate to help got too big hand fulls for her it was cute. She then went on to ignore us as she picked up every bead. Then when she finely helped us(shoving her hand in her desk and pulling out 2 marbels shoving them in his face and saying you can have this) it was a disgusting, the diference in what i have always bin met with at this library was night and day. I explained that the other librarian lets him pic the marbels and also lets us take 4(We have never lost a marbel and if you want me to bring marbels just ask) so after agreeing she slams it on the tabel in front of my nephew like a child. so not to say this interaction with this "adult" killed the mood for my nephew, the marbel run he was asking to play with all week we played with for mayby 10-15 minutes because of this, then when my nephew gave back the marbels he came back almost crying because of the interaction, at another point he is siting on a chair by your back window and he puts his head in one of the small metal square(left and right bottoms of the window screen) cus he wants to crawl out the window rather then walk out the library past her. I had to carry my nephew out of Burlington County Library in not a fun way but to make him feel safe and wanted. And at the end of all this he told me "im done with the librery, i dont want to come back." And those two sentences are why you got this review. also that librarian should not be in the children's section if she is going to make children cry.

If you have an afternoon, I'd make a day out of it as there is a lot to explore in Wissahickon Park from a historic paper mill village to the graffiti under the Taft Bridge. I started at the Hermitage Mansion, another historic home built by a Russian immigrant. Follow the trails using Google Maps to find this cave used by hermits in the woods who wee alleged doomsday people. It dates back hundreds of years. The cave is easy to find just off the trail with a marker. It's a small, dark room so no need to stay for hours.

Another hidden garden in a part of the city with a bunch of cute gardens. It's enclosed with a…read morewell-maintained patch of grass, some (uncomfortable) metal benches, and a fountain in one corner. It's quiet, cozy, serene, and I love coming here with the dog for a quick time-out when I work from home. The few downsides are that it only has one entrance, and it locks up at night. :(
