About a month ago in the midst of quarantine & all that was going on in NY, Shahida specially took out half her day to work on my hair, came all suited up and made sure everything was extra clean due to the circumstances. She didn't let me leave until I was fully satisfied with the color. I live in Chicago now and was just visiting. I don't trust many people with my hair or eyebrows, but Shahida does a great job. Please save yourself and don't go here for your eyebrows. Worst experience ever. I been going here for years on and off because when I find someone I like they leave. And then when I try new people they always mess it up but I decided to give them a try again because the owner was always very nice to me. But huge mistake this is it never going back there again in my life. I have the biggest cuts all over my eyebrows that's burning and the woman who did it took off more than half my eyebrows in the front. It looks so horrible I literally starting crying when I got to my car. The cuts on my face are unreal. My eyebrows looks terrible there so uneven I told her just clean it a little but she took off half my eyebrows. This review is long overdue. However, after reading the multiple other bad reviews of this place, I feel compelled to add my experience to the mix. This was a while ago but for future brides looking to do their hair and makeup somewhere, avoid this place at all costs!!! My Mom was getting remarried and had had a consultancy with the owner regarding her hair and makeup. She had done a facial with her and worked out with that she would only be getting her hair and makeup done at the salon on her wedding day. My sisters and I were bridesmaids and we were only going to get our hair blown out and I was going to get my eyebrows done. We had an appointment for 12:30pm and had to be at the church by 3:30pm. The day before the wedding, the owner of the salon called my Mom and told her she wouldn't be able to be in the next day to help her get ready due to a family emergency. But her daughter would be there and she told her what she and my Mom had discussed. Of course, this added to my Mom's nerves but we had no choice but to go through with the appointment. We arrived on time and the owners daughter took my Mom aside and asked her where her dress was. My Mom explained she was only doing her hair and makeup and the daughter argued that that's not how they do things. That brides come with their dresses and get fully dressed at the salon. She made us feel like we weren't prepared and stressed us all out even more than we already were. She started working on my Mom and insisted on washing her hair even though my Mom told her she had washed it at home. She said my Moms hair was greasy and she needed to wash it in order to style it. There was only one other woman working in the salon who didn't really say much. I don't remember her asking what we wanted to do to our hair but she just started working on our cousin who was also a bridesmaid. We just wanted our hair blown straight out but she started teasing and curling the ends of her hair. It took her an hour to do her hair then she moved on to my sister. We were running out of time and she had me get in a chair to do my eyebrows while she was still working on my sister. But then, every time a customer would come in she'd stop working on us and work on them. Never washing her hands in between. Meanwhile, my Mom wasn't happy with the makeup and hair style the owners daughter was doing for her. The daughter was arguing with her saying that the way she did her hair and makeup was what was popular. She also used makeup that was way to light for her skin. It was my Mom's second marriage and she was older and didn't feel comfortable with the way she made her look. I can't remember if our youngest sister even got her hair done. By the end of the appointment we were going to be running late. We still had to pick up flowers and get back home to get dressed. When we got home we ended up trying to fix my Mom's hair and makeup the best we could. We managed to fix her makeup but her hair started to come apart a bit during the reception. The owners daughter and the worker definitely didn't care about us and did extra stuff with our hair and my Moms makeup to rack up the bill at the end. It was so disheartening and stressful for this to happen on a wedding day. We still joke about how bad the service was and how aggressive and unprofessional the staff were. read more

Yesterday I went to New look for a hairstyle for my baby shower. Unfortunately, I didn't know earlier that Shahida did makeup as well. After being horribly disappointed @ Ulta for the bad job they did, Shahida fixed my makeup disaster without charging me anything extra after finishing my hair! I cannot tell you how happy I was that I did my hair with Shahida and how she totally changed my mood after fixing my previously done bad makeup job. I was so excited that I had finally found a threading lady (Shelly) that I liked working with. I am very particular about my eyebrows and Shelly was actually taking the time to make sure I was satisfied every time. I was a loyal customer of this salon for 2 years. I had my makeup done for my cousin's wedding. I have had my hair done from them multiple times and went there weekly for threading/waxing. I noticed that every time a customer would leave Shahida would start talking badly about that customer. For Example, a woman had gotten liposuction, after she left, everyone in the salon found out about her liposuction from Shahida. And once a bride came in to discuss pricing, and after she left Shahida was started saying nasty things about how "cheap" the bride was. I had ignored these behavior patterns I had noticed because I felt it was not my business to say something to her. However, one afternoon, I went to the salon on a Friday after work. I told her I needed to get my full face threaded. She had a couple of people in line ahead of me so she said, "we are busy can you come tomorrow?" When I told her I could not because I had a wedding to go to she still said, "ok, we have the time. You can start now" I sat down and started getting my service. A few minutes in to my service she starts screaming at me. "I have such a long line. This is why I told you to come back tomorrow." At first I ignored how rude she was being and just said, "sorry". Then 30 seconds later she looked at the other customers and said, "I am sorry this is a long wait. It is just ridiculous. I know. Some people.." and then looked at me! She continued yelling about me for like 2 entire minutes after that! I was horrified and utterly humiliated! You are a damn manager of a business! You do not know how much time a service takes? If you did not have the room in your schedule, why did you say yes? And then if you said yes, why are you making me feel like you are doing me a favor by letting me get my threading done?! Was I paying any less than the other customers? If anything, I was overall a more profitable customer for her business. I had gotten very expensive services from her in the past. I was not the random drop-in customer who only comes in once for eyebrows and you never see again! She made me so uncomfortable I left her salon nearly crying! I have never been insulted quite like this. She is trash! A personification of the expression, "you can take the (wo)man out of the street but you can not take the street out of the (wo)man." Her nasty attitude completely overshadows any iota of talent she may have. No wonder she has the highest turn-over rate for employees than any other Desi salon in Hicksville. Horrible attitude and character. Me and my friend parked in the parking lot behind the small complexes for 45 minutes while we attended the nail place right next door. The lady who I assume owned the establishment was waiting for us to come out and harassed us about parking where we did. she continued to yell out profanities and insults(including multiple "f*ck you's"). It was quite appalling that someone who owns a business would act with such little respect. It makes lot of sense why she has so many bad reviews. I couldn't believe she was yelling at us for parking behind her business when there was multiple free spaces. If the lady who yelled as us reads this all I want her to know is that karmas a bitch. I hired shahida and her staff for hair and makeup for my bridal party and I was appalled at the unprofessionalism and horrible demeanor, upsetting my mother and my entire party multiple times, single handedly delaying my wedding start, and still not completing the evening services on time. I hope that no other bride has to suffer like this. Instead of owning up to her mistake of double booking she insisted she could complete 4 women's hair and makeup in 1.5 hours with one trainee (literally didn't know how to do basics). This salon ruined my wedding and the mood of the most important people in my life on the most important day of my life. NEVER AGAIN I got a Brazilian wax and everyone that worked here walked in on me while I was being waxed... The girl didn't know what she was doing and the wax wasn't waxing hair away. Someone else had to come and help her. The owner bitches about other clients to people and talks behind their backs. I was getting married and moving from a different state to ny.I didn't know which salons are nice in the area and the ones that were recommended were in the city which I had no one to take me.So I called around and got the phone number for this salon.I got my henna done for my wedding and 2 day event makeup.1 day being the marriage ceremony and 2nd day reception.Any how I was charged a heft fee for consult and a pre makeup session to see if I liked the work. And then when I actually got the work done I was charged almost 800 which was a lot of money.And I could have done better makeup.Your wedding day is suppose to be the best day of your life and hopefully forever. But mine was ruined with the awful muddy looking makeup. I'm glad other people have had a better experience but I didn't and wouldn't recommend them based on that.When I complained during the makeup application I was told this would look great in pictures and I looked really bad.Even my Br. said why didn't you do your own makeup you do such a nice job. My honeymoon pictures came out better then my wedding.No amount of sorry can reverse the damage.You only get married once and should look beautiful which I didnt.Anyway I just wanted to give my thoughts about my experience. Came in here with my friend because she wanted to get a henna, ended up getting my eyebrows done because I saw them do one girls very well while I was waiting with my friend. They gave my eyebrows a very nice shape. While I was waiting the owner showed me some of her work she did on a wedding earlier in the day and I was blown away. Not only was the makeup that was done great she also did hair extensions on the bride which looked just as flawless. My friends henna came out really well and she gave me a small design on the house. I also bought a pair of sunglasses that I am in love with. I was amazed at the customer service I received while coming into this store. I was only here with my friend while she was getting a henna but i ends up getting my eyebrows done, a new pair of sunglasses, and a small henna design on my hand. Great experience! read more

Favoritism between customers. Certain ladies get treated the best because they may be leaving a good tip or whatnot. I, however, was disgusted by their treatment and their attitude. Never once did I see the ladies use their hand sanitizers bottles for their own hands when threading eyebrows, only on particular customers that may actually complain or make a problem out of it. They only provided lotion or tissues again to particular customers. Overall, certain staff and the owner is beyond rude and talk a lot of shit in their language. So unprofessional. Never tried to get any type of waxing here BUT Be careful of the waxing! Double dipping wax is a CRIME as these types of salons try to be cheap and think it's okay to do so. read more

The one rude woman working told me to come back in an hour. She didn't ask me, she said come back in an hour. I will never visit this place again. If you need somewhere in the area to get your eyebrows or hair done visit Aaina Beauty Salon instead. That's where I went to get my eyebrows done and where I have gone a handful of times. They are staffed with more than one person at a given time. Also, when I left feedback on the Facebook page of New Look Salon, the rude owner responded rudely. I have attached a photo of her response. She has since deleted it, perhaps because I recommended people visit somewhere else instead. But please feel free to see her nasty comments for yourself. I called and asked if I can come in to get my eyebrows done and I walk in and they say come back tomorrow, so I come back tomorrow and I ask how long the wait is and the lady goes 20 min so I wait more than 20 min and i ask her again how much longer and she says another 20 min. Long story short, I didn't get my brows done. Trust me I have worked at a salon too but never have we treated customers in such a way. I booked this salon for my Indian wedding in August 2014 to do hair and makeup. Unfortunately, the wedding was canceled and they did not refund nor credit me my $500. My sister used them for her wedding which is why I wanted to as well but they did not even care. The cancelation of my wedding was devestating as is and the owner did not help the situation even when I gave her 7 months notice.
