In May '12, my school's kindergarten classes were allowed to have our field trip here. Our classes together totaled around 35 students and several adults. I was impressed at how organized our tour guide, an employee of the Museum, managed all of us throughout the entire venue. We began our tour with the Lea County Cowboy Hall of Fame portion of the Museum. I highly recommend this jewel of southeastern New Mexico particularly if you have any interest in the ranching lifestyle. The displays are well-maintained and seem to do these great icons justice. We continued our tour of the Western Heritage Museum located on the south side, the Virgil and Thelma Linam Collection. But before entering, our students interacted with "Gus," a lifelike figure that has a sort of Q&A session all about the cowboy life. My students thought he was real at first--ha! Our tour lasted approximately 45 minutes, then we watched an educational movie in the Museum's theater. Because we had our short attention span audience and also needed to stay on our bus schedule, we did not view any of the ongoing and temporary exhibits on the north side which are usually set up very nicely. It was an unusually rainy and cold day, so we also did not get to have our snack on the nice back patio area. :( On a slightly different not, the Brian Norwood sculpture outside in the front is amazing. If you have time, right before sunset drive about 50 more minutes south just before the small town of Jal. You'll see more of his artwork from the highway or you can drive up close to it and stand next to these amazing silhouettes. Norwood's artwork and the articles that the Museum has received from the people of this good community are sure to give you a taste of how this county came to be. I really hope to someday see "Sandy," the Columbian Mammoth that was discovered a couple of years ago near the San Simon. After 3 days of trying to reason with New Mexico Jr college and after reading their Mission Statement, I need to speak out about what's going on with me. I enrolled in this school in January 2015, and due to a DV situation, I had to leave my life and flee with my children, so I was only able to attend online classes for less than a month. Fast forward to July of this year, I had a herniated disk that took up 30 % of the space in my spine and clasped 2 of my discs on top of each other and because I was bed ridden and couldn't walk, I lost my job and became suicidal. After overcoming that battle and putting in more than 6500 resumes and applications and still not landing a job, I needed to reevaluate my life and how I could make myself better as a single mother. I decided that since my youngest is old enough now, I need to go back to school. I completed every required task except getting my transcript from New Mexico Jr College and taking the placement test to see if I am required to an extra English or Math class, but classes start 1/16/24. My financial aid is already approved, my new college just needs proof from the school that I did not receive any credits, which I did not. I had to borrow $6 to get my transcript just to find out that there is a hold on my transcript. The hold is because the school had to return the Pell grant and now want that money from me. I attended online less than a month and they want me to give them almost $1800! That I don't have, that's more than my $1700 rent. I don't have a month's worth of rent just to tell another school, I was there for less than a month, I didn't receive a laptop or anything like that. I logged on from Texas for less than a month 8 years ago! After talking to a sweet lady named Stacy, the head of the finance dept, she told me she would see what could be done after speaking to her boss, the VP of finance Josh. She called me the next morning and said he would not allow her to release my transcript until they received $1800. After being devastated, I called the President of the school and spoke to his secretary Norma, who was equally as sweet as Stacy, she said she would talk to President of the school and ask him talk to Josh the VP of finance. Well, I missed Josh's phone call, but after hearing his message, he isn't going to release my transcript because he sent me another text message about the hold not being released on my transcript. Nothing on their mission statement is lining up with this situation at all. I could see if I finished even half of the semester, but I didn't. I am trying to better myself and this is the last roadblock in my life. I wish Josh had the Christmas spirit. I wish this school could understand that people are trying the world is different, it's harder and broker. As a former student still trying, I wish I had their support. read more

Great campus located near many restaurants and retail stores. The sports programs are some of the best in the country!

Great place to work, awesome NMJC ..... Great atmosphere . My three kids studied here and went on to Texas Tech & Kaplan College. My husband is amazed on how relaxed I'am these days. read more
