So I was walking by and saw in their window a Daily Combo Special for $8 for a personal-sized pizza, a dip and a drink. I figured why not? So you can get any of the pre-set pizza combinations (they call them "recipe pizzas"), or you can build your own to a maximum of 6 toppings. I chose my own toppings and chose grilled chicken, spinach, artichokes, mushrooms, green peppers and red peppers. I got the Cheezy Cheddar dip and a bottle of Orange Crush. I snapped a few pictures of the food in the store for y'all, but I got it to go and ate it at home. It wasn't as hot when I got home so I stuck it in the oven for a bit to warm it up. The pizza was pretty good. They were generous with the toppings and it didn't taste overly greasy. While I enjoyed the pizza, I felt there was nothing really distinctive about it taste-wise. Perhaps I should have tried the coconut curry or sweet and smoky tropical sauces instead of their standard tomato sauce. Maybe next time. Nonetheless the price wasn't bad and the pizza was done in about 10 minutes. Their tomato sauce is organic, which I appreciate. There's no indication that the other sauces are organic. I liked that you get a bottle of pop instead of the usual can (you get more and it's resealable). However, I was unimpressed that I was given expired dipping sauce. My visit was on April 2, 2022 and my dip expired on March 26, 2022. Boo hiss! They need to do a better job of checking their inventory because giving customers expired food is unacceptable. I'm not gonna chance it by eating expired dairy, so I can't tell you what the Cheezy Cheddar dip tasted like. Minus one star for giving me expired food! :( Staff were courteous and patient as I tried to figure out what I wanted. I was the only customer in the store at 3:45pm on a Saturday. Note that the Daily Combo Special is only available before 4pm, but applies on weekends too. Street parking only.

I live next door to a neighbourhood pizza shop and I desperately want to love them, but I can't. Their pizza is truly awful. Pretty good shawarma, but awful pizza. For the past two years I've been on a quest for good neighbourhood 'za. So far, everyone that delivers in my area can be described as mediocre at best. Usually I end up with a too-thick crust underneath boring sauce and questionable toppings, hidden by a placenta of too salty cheese with a pool of grease in the middle. How did we ever get to this point? It was with these low expectations that I decided to try Panago. I found them somewhat by accident driving home from the theatre and noted their existence. I ordered a medium Panago Classic (Italian Tomato Sauce, Pepperoni, Canadian Ham, Red Onions, Sautéed Mushrooms, Black Olives, Green Peppers, Mozzarella Cheese) with a regular hand-thrown crust. By the time I was done with tax, delivery charge and tip the bill came to about $25.00. A little pricier than average, but if the quality was there, it would be worth it, right? It was. The crust was cooked right on the money and just the right thickness for my liking. Not so thin that it folds up and you end up with hot cheese in your lap, but not so thick that you notice it. This crust was basically invisible until right up to the edge, where you have about a 1/2" bone to chew on while you contemplate whether you want to blow the diet and have another slice or not. The sauce was a lovely passata, which served as a lovely bass line for the toppings to play off of. Next came a thin layer of cheese, just enough to form a substrate, then the oh so fresh toppings. Then more cheese. Not enough to form a sheet of salty goo, but enough to lock stuff together. The olives and mushrooms were the soloists in this little jazz, and the way they were arranged, they got to shine on their own. Did I mention fresh? Look, making pizza isn't rocket science, but it is s certain art to getting it right. I think a fair comparison is truck stop coffee versus Starbucks (before you go all coffee hipster, you don't know what it was like here in the before times) versus Cafe au Lait at The Blue Moon. Panago (which happens to be a national multi-unit out of Toronto) is solidly in at least the category of Starbucks. Competent, slightly artisanal, and hopefully a force that drives the locals to raise their game. Is it epic pizza of all pizzaness? No. but graded on the curve that is the Ottawa pizza scene it's a solid 4 stars. This may change when I make it back to Moe's Newport.

The nerd pizza had pickled onions, black pepper molasses bacon, cheese and chili Basil honey. I loved the tangy pickled onions, with the salty-sweet bacon, and the spicy honey. The combination was just perfection. I could use a little more chili though! The mushroom pizza was a white pizza with portobello mushrooms, parm, and truffle oil. The salty parm and the meaty portebello mushrooms were a good combo, but I didn't really taste any truffle oil. I felt like this pizza was good but missing a little something to take it to the next level. Overall, the food was delicious. The drinks are reasonably priced (beer, local kombucha). However, the service was mediocre. I think they only had one or two servers working the entire area on Friday night.

They offer gluten free in small and medium and they get their gluten free crusts in a thicker base so it doesn't burn and taste like cardboard. It's also cooked on its own pan, so they try to limit cross contamination as much as possible. And if you're a regular pizza eater their crust is thick, it's loaded with cheese and toppings and is an absolute delight. And their garlic dip, yum.

Even the basic Margherita pizza is excellent, as is the even more basic (lol) Rossa pizza, which is just tomato sauce and spices (no cheese, it's vegan). Their pizzas are greasy, so not for dieters, lol. I've also had their Suppli, which is a breaded and deep-fried risotto and cheese croquette. It's big time greasy, but tasty. Overall this was very good pizza -- more or less Neapolitan style, but more cooked, which made the crust a bit dry but also easier to eat with the hands. The crust is definitely above average, meaning it's aged for flavour, chewy-puffy-crisp, and blackened wherever larger bubbles had formed. Queen Elizabeth - Goat Cheese Pizza: the closest thing they have to a Margherita but I found the tangy goat cheese overpowered the subtle flavours of cheese, sauce, and crust. The tomato sauce is already sour and sweet, so the extra tang from the goat cheese and the sweetness of the hot honey upset the balance of the base ingredients IMO. Gladstone - Calabreze Pizza: the closest thing they have to a pepperoni pizza. this was really tasty and the tomato sauce balanced the salty fatty sausage well. This is a very salty pizza, so YMMV. Bank - Mushroom Pizza: loaded with thick chewy mushrooms on a rich garlicky white sauce, this was my favourite of the three. The toppings overwhelmed any subtle dough flavours but the result was undeniably delicious. Overall this is very good pizza. I really wish they had a straightforward Margherita pizza though for us purists who want to enjoy the base ingredients!
