I don't know what these other reviewers are talking about. New Outlooks has always done well by me- I have been going there for 5 years or so and haven't been disappointed. I think like most other things, some of the burden lies with the customer. Are you being honest about what treatments or chemicals you may or have added to your hair before your visit? Are you clearly communicating what you want and carefully listening to the stylist? Do you have realistic expectations? Also, like all good salons, if you're not happy they will rectify the error or issue. Case in point- I had an updo that I wasn't thrilled with- said something, and they re-did it no problem. Amazing! As a prior employee I must say Carol is extremely dedicated to her clients but equally as dedicated to her staff too! She take pride in bettering each and everyone! I had the pleasure of working with carol for 6 years !! You often find in the hair industry self driven selfish people who only have their personal interests in mind but that is not the case for Carol or anyone who works there. The benefit of this is that the clients are given an environment that is solely focused on them and giving them the ultimate experience from every direction. So if your looking for a new salon be sure to check out new outlooks obviously their doing something right considering she's been in business since the early 80's and continues to grow year after year!! I had THE BEST experience here. I was searching for a new hairdresser and checked Yelp to see what I might find. Came upon new outlooks and decided to give it a go. I wanted a complete change. Longer hair to a long pixie cut. Not for the faint of heart... and I was putting my total confidence in someone I've never met.... Melissa was my hair stylist and she was AMAZING! I went in to get a full set of nails. It was my first time in this salon and the decor of the salon wasn't one that I would usually go to. The girl who did my nails was nice. I like my nails done a certain way. I find only the really skilled techs cans do a great job. The moment she finished and started painting my nails, they started popping off! That NEVER happened to me...I've gotten full sets, since I was 17-18. She finally got them all on, and I just didn't like them. I paid her and left. My nails started popping off in my car! read more

Not happy. Took my son for a trim. He had been growing his hair out and it looked so cute. Just wanted a slight trim. Told them explicitly not to cut the curls off the back. Since I couldn't go in with him I trusted that my instructions would be followed. When he came out the back of his hair was chopped and his curls were gone. He was so upset. Haircut is awful. I know his hair will grow back but simple instructions couldn't be followed. read more

I have been seeing the same stylist for several years and always leave feeling good about how my hair looks. There have been a few times, because of scheduling desperation, that I've had to see different stylists, and they've been okay with the exception of Kim. I hate to dump on her because I see other customers have been unhappy with their experiences with her but honestly I felt that she did not listen to me and was way more interested in socializing with coworkers. Overall, like I said, when I get my usual stylist I'm very satisfied with my hair. I do think there is a general lack of professionalism at the salon with stylists being late and employees loudly socializing in the common areas of the salon. I know Carol requires her stylists to continue learning and attended conferences, etc., which is great. read more

Well, I guess a lot of people have pretty low standards. I went in for color and cut with Kim. She talked the entire time with the other hair dressers, she put no thought or effort into my color. (They talked the whole time about what jewelry they want their boyfriends to buy them, where the boyfriends should take them to dinner and what reasons they'd dump a boyfriend. Such trash!) I told her the exact color I wanted and asked if I could buy it and bring it in but they are restricted to using Paul Mitchell products. I showed her pictures of my hair as I wanted it and she said it would be the same. Instead I got a very dull, muddy looking color. She asked if I wanted a cut and I told her I didn't want a lot of length off, just a good trim and shaping. Seriously, she did 3 snips and announced it was done. Just horrible! She told me to look into the mirror and see if I liked it but at her station, you sit with your back to a sunny window so all you can see is a silhouette. This was a total waste of money and time. I initially came to this salon as it seemed to be more upbeat than the salon I was then using. After discussing the type of hair I have, fine and thin, and requesting the owner Carol as my choice, I was informed she was not taking new clients. Sarah came highly recommended as the person to meet my needs. Well my hair result was white(I wanted blond highlights). I then returned a few hours later to "fix" the color with low lights. Now I had a head of orange hair, but was told it was the lighting--LOL!! I had many negative comments at work but I tried to get used to my new color. The mistake I made was returning weeks later for another attempt at getting the color right. AGAIN orange hair!! I did call and spoke to Sarah who agreed to fix my hair, but I was going on strike 2 and you're out. I lived with the color until a new stylist was recommended to me by a coworker. She has been working hard to rid my hair of the orange, and it's better. My next visit to her should totally eliminate that ghastly orange!!!! I am not the only client who has come to her with orange hair and she spoke to me of a problem with some of the newer stylists not having proper direction. Sarah needs some help!! They should change the name from New Outlooks to NEW ORANGELOOKS for hair. This place is a joke. Very dated décor (spent over 2 hours In the "lounge" staring at dizzying silver tacky birch tree wallpaper with cheap purple paper lanterns dangling overhead while my poor hair turned a brassy cheap tone). omg... When I initially called I asked for the most experienced stylist, as I know if not done professionally, my hair can pick up brassy color. They handed me over to Kim whom had the personality of a doorknob.We did speak at length on how to highlight dark brown hair to avoid ORANGE brassiness, my hair was almost completely grown out and was virgin hair half way down. Kim went to work, hardly speaking, lots of foil later, off to the "lounge", finally back in chair, I could not see my reflection in her mirror. The horrible lighting and the way the sun glares directly off her mirror I couldn't see a thing! After the blow dry I had to look in adjoining mirror to see color, but with dated cheap lighting I just couldn't see the true color. Thought it was ok went left, smiled and payed then out into reality and the light of day. OMG...ORANGE. Went home and stared at my reflection. OMG ORANGE. My friends started calling me "red". Was so upset, called the salon back... went back in for lowlights, from a younger stylist, which toned It down..Geezo. Fast forward months later, roots are showing, hair is brass. Thought I'd give Kim a second chance. WHAT WAS I THINKING!!!! I went over and over the ORANGE hair problem we had last time, which I think was pissing her off, but she assured me that would never happen again. This time was worse cuz she decided to do my roots an "Ash Blonde"...I told her I wanted to keep my hair brown with blonde highlights, but she said she would add toner..blahh blah. back in the freakin 'lounge....than back in her chair...can't even see my own reflection' never mind the color..Pay..smile...get the hell out and home. OMG ORANGE...even brighter than before! In the light of day..looked like a orange crayon. Had to GO BACK IN and have a very young nice woman, who had to ask the owner what to do, try and tone it down with lowlights. After the whole ordeal...just couldn't see the true color..HAD TO WALK TO THE WINDOW with stylist looking into a tiny hand held mirror to see the color. Told the girl that I could still see the orange at the roots but had to go. OMG Still ORANGE. Called the owner...wanted my money back to go to a decent salon for color correction. She said she would only pay me less than half of what I paid. She then proceeded leaving me voicemails..saying that my hair was orange because of my water at home!! The second voicemail got nasty saying that they had camera's on me showing me smiling as I left and because of that I wouldn't be getting any refund!!!! OMG I was smiling cuz I was glad to get the hell out of there! My hair is fried..and now have to pay for color correction at a better salon!BEWARE!!!!!! read more

I was lucky enough to get a call back and an appointment for the next day with Justine. Boy am I lucky! She was great and I LOVE my hair!!! I am glad I did not read these other reviews before I went because I would likely not have booked. But I had a completely different experience. I had cut and highlights done and am 100% happy with both of them. And I know that I am a picky person when it comes to my hair. I will drive hours to go to a hairstylist that i feel comfortable with. I asked a friend where she had her hair done and she referred this salon. Stylist was Melissa (Missy). The salon is clean and pretty with a nice atmosphere. Everything about the experience was professional. Really no complaints. I can honestly say that I would recommend this salon to any of my friends. read more

This place is TERRIBLE! I tried it twice as I had received 2 gift cards. The first time I went to have my make up done for a class reunion the girl kept saying over and over how wonderful it looked I was mortified but kept my mouth shut thinking I just wasn't use to wearing so much make up. So I drove home to see what my family thought of it they were just as mortified I ran upstairs and washed it sell off! That was 11/24/2012. The second time I went 11/16/13 for a pedicure AWFUL! The room was horrible not relaxing at sell not in the least dap like. It looks like a child painted it and the magazines were old and ratty. The girl was personable but not very good at what she was doing. She actually slipped with the file and sliced the bottom of my foot where my little to bends and it kept splitting open all weekend OUCH! The paint was coming off within a day ! It took an hour and a half ! So no worth my time! Don't go there! bEWARE! read more

When I first began going (2006) I was fairly happy, but noticed that prices were not consistent even though I had the same services each time. They said the prices had changed, but upon taking a 'new' brochure I learned it was the same as what I had at home. The quality of the services were also inconsistant, and I felt like I needed to be loyal to the stylist I was going to- it would be awkward to suddely go to another girl, but I'd nicely point out the issues (highlights either way too blonde or left way too much roots, hair color too red- I got both color and highlights). I had a pedicure once and the work was little better than I could have done at home. I got a slight smudge before I left and I was given a hard time to get someone to fix it ("you'll have to wait" then sighs, and the bum's rush). It was the last time I got a pedicure there. Also on a spa package (2007) I was quoted one price and when I went to pay it was $5 more, when I questioned it, I was told the price was correct. The person ringing me up could see I was still reluctant to pay so she called a mgr over, who also tried to tell me when the svcs were all rung up that's the price it came to, but she would take off the $5, sort of like she was doing me a favor, but I showed her in the brochure the price. As far as services other than hair, I only made appts for a rare massage b/c massages are a bit of a luxury but Andrea the masseuse is fantastic. The final few instances pretty much made up my mind for me. I made an appt based on the only available date I had in a 3 week period. I always have a calendar in front of me, and confirm the appt- though they usually do that on their own. When I went to the appt. I was told I didn't have one. My stylist came over and said it was booked for the week before (same day of week/time) and she thought I had simply not shown up. I did not receive a call, which I can understand they aren't going to chase ppl down, but in the 4 ys I had gone there, I was never more than a few ins late(rare!) and never was a no-show. They completely acted as if it was my error. I felt myself apologizing even though I knew I hadn't made the mistake b/c they all were so positive the error couldn't be on their end. I was later asked to move an appt b/c there was a booking error (something w/their system). Sooo they couldn't make the error before but now there clearly was an error and I had to move my appt. I graciously did since it was an elderly woman who really had the appt time, and truthfully I only had to move it out a 1/2 hr which inconvenienced me only a little. On my final visit I felt as if I was treated coldly by my stylist. She did have personal issue and shared them w/me, but still. She can at least be cordial. She was always up and down w/her mood. For example, I'd see her ask other clients if they wanted coffee, etc. I was rarely asked. I'd be having a conversation w/her, and she would clearly be listening to someone else, and start talking to the other ppl in the middle of my talking to her. No "excuse me" etc. There was often some other distraction. She 'finished' me up but hadn't done the cut that I always got along w/other svcs, and I said, oh, what about the cut. She said I thought you didn't want one. Huh?? When I booked it I named out all the regular svcs I always got. She had another person waiting, so I had to move and wait for her to start the other person. What?!? Final insult, I was charged $10 more than the last time and again was told prices went up. Guess what- brochure prices at the salon were the same as the brochure I had at home. I don't know why I waited that long- shame on me! To their credit the place is always busy, and it's in a nice spot / has nice decor, but my last 3 yrs there were mostly disappointments. Bottom line- They need to be consistent and upfront w/prices, and work on customer service. Don't take your regulars for granted! read more

My mother introduced me to Carol from New Outlooks many many years ago & after my 1st cut & color I was in love! For the next 10 plus years I walked out of this salon regularly feeling absolutely gorgeous.. The owner here actually listens to what you want & does just that. Since the place is always packed I'm assuming it's not just Carol that's amazing ;) .. About 5 years ago we moved & I made the painful decision to go to a new hairdresser that was closer to us (who btw was also wonderful) but since we are planning on moving back that way soon I figured what the heck, I'll stop in & see if she remembers me & can get me in! I was greeted with a huge hug & a "congratulations on getting married" ... Huh? She doesn't miss a beat lol ... Well needless to say I AM HOME! This salon really is one of the absolute best in the area.. I'm truly shocked at some of the negative comments on here but everyone is entitled to their opinion. As usual the place was packed, the stylists were all laughing & chatting with their customers & seemed to have a great relationship with them & most importantly my hair looks incredible! When I left there I stopped to get gas & a woman I didn't even know said my highlights were gorgeous & who was my stylist .. I can't even tell you how many times I've gotten compliments like that after leaving the salon & when I got home my 11 yr old looked up from his phone & was like WOW MOM you look beautiful! the prices may be slightly higher than a lot of other places but you get what you pay for & I promise you it's worth it!!! 1 of the things I really love (& there are many) is that sometimes I can't always get back there as soon as I should but somehow no matter how long I go, my hair still looks like I just had it done! I am one to always read reviews before I buy something or go somewhere & I am counting on those reviews to steer or veer me in the right direction & for some of us women, getting our hair done is the only thing that's "ours" .. It's the only thing we do for ourselves & we want it done right. This place does it right every single time & I absolutely love them! I have gone to Kim a few times over the past year. She has always been very accommodating as I have very long, thick hair and our appointments often take longer than a normal appointment. She is great with color- she helped me go from blonde to a nice dark ombré and we also did some pretty highlights on my next visit when I missed being a blonde. She always has an upbeat attitude and is always smiling- she's a pleasure to be around. As someone with long hair, she understands that I get nervous about cutting too much off. She takes extra time with my haircut so I'm not shocked and regretful when we are done. Kim is a great stylist- and she is in demand, so make sure when you book with her you call in advance. read more

I want to like the place. I have been a couple of times and had decent experiences. The reason I am writing today though has caused me to rethink going back. I made an appointment a week ago and went in for my appointment. I had to wait 40 minutes before being seen by my hairdresser. It wasn't even acknowledged that they were running behind. And all I received was an insincere apology by the receptionist. My hairdresser didn't even say anything to me. The haircut was fine but causing your customers to wait like that is terrible customer service. I understand if you running 10-15 minutes behind, but my time is valuable too. read more
