Many years ago one would have avoided coming here! It felt old, tired, sad & it was! Not today! Thriving & bustling with great restaurants, summer activities on the Pier et cetera. 'New West' as it is affectionately known as, has become a must place to check out & hang out at! Check out Fratelli Bakery, Piva Italian Restaurant & El Santo for great eats!!! Now I won't lie, the New West Skytrain Station can bring about some intresting 'characters' but if you simply avoid the drama & continue about your way - you'll be just fine! Take a walk along Colombia Street & see the old buildings, multiple bridal shops (Columbia St - aka Bridal Row) & great views of the Fraser River & beyond. A must - go to 4th Street - turn towards the river & head across the new overpass! Please note - this new overpass bridge you see in the pics was launched to the press as the - 'Sixth Street Overpass.' It is not on 6th Street - it is on 4th Street! I'm assuming it will be renamed!? The new Westminster Pier Park will be a hit with kids as well. Plenty of ongoing construction occurring & I can't wait to see how it turns out! The River Market offers eateries & shopping but I found myself not bothering to go inside for a peek, on this beautiful sunny afternoon! I loved just being outside & taking it all in! New Westminster keep doing what you're doing - bravo!!!!!

I know that I cant expect any service and protection from them but whats worse is I believe they are going out of their way to cause me harm. Eventually some one will have to answer to the public's out cry and if not maybe its time for tax strikes and general strikes these public servants need to be reminded they are our servants and we are governed only by consent not by rule. Whats funny is they are public servants and very well paid yet I spoke to, Sergeant Chris Mullin insists he is NOT a public servant. I emailed him for a statement on who it is he works for if not the city I am still waiting ;) Separating Policy Enforcement from Peace Officer and disarming Policy Enforcement Officers would be a good start.

He was able to calmly and confidently make me feel at ease and even followed up with great suggestions and advice on how to peacefully handle this sensitive matter. Wandering around New Westminster on a beautiful afternoon, how could we miss a walk along this…read moreperfect boardwalk. The boardwalk overlooks the Fraser River and with the tall buildings of New Westminster to the opposite side. The boardwalk (not all of it actual boards) extends from near the Patullo Bridge to Waterfront Esplanade Park. Not at all crowded with people though plenty of stuff to look at with captions along the way that provide some local history and geology. Several benches along the way, too! Is biking allowed? The upstairs has a lot of tables, a section dedicated to computers and a quiet study room. It's a nice space to use because it's generally pretty quiet. There's not much else to say because I don't go to the library for the books.

This is a very small library, similar to the one in Port Moody…read more The selection is poor and it is generally not very inviting. Chairs are scattered all over. Sounds carry in this library and I could hear the conversation between a librarian and a library user. They are not talking very loudly but still I can hear them, and I give props to the super patient librarian who had to deal with the library user who did not seem to understand/hear what the librarian said. New users are allowed to borrow 5 items. After a month with no charges or overdue items then will the limit be increased. It is part of the Public Library Interlink so you can still return books here which are borrowed from other libraries.

Being a fan of Burnaby Heritage Museum, I never knew about this place until my family told me about it. I came here with my parents, and there were no other visitors other than my family during the entire tour of the house. Tracy, the tour guide, was super friendly and helpful with the tour and I was able to stop and ask any questions during the tour. I loved how Tracy did a vintage vacuum demonstration as I haven't seen anything like it before. I loved the fact that visitors could go upstairs and see the entire house! Many of the items in the home were original from the original owners, though some were purchased or donated from other sources.

It was lived in by family members up to about 1950, when it was sold to the city of New Westminster, and turned into a historical centre. Thus, if you're a history buff, love antiques (especially Victorian-era pieces), or ever watched the show "America's Castles", you should take a tour of Irving House. The house was built in high style by Captain Irving, a man who made a lot of money in the California, Alaska, and BC Gold Rush, and virtually poured it into the house. The architectural details of the house are interesting and well explained by the costumed guides. Since I was practically the only visitor at the time, I pretty much got my own personal tour. According to them, all the furniture and pieces displayed in the house are authentic to the period - no reproductions (except for some fake food in the kitchen, perhaps). Many belonged to the Irving family and their descendants; others were donated. The house is currently decorated, Victorian-style, for Christmas. Lots of garlands, an amazing Christmas dinner setting, and a beautiful little Christmas tree. Those into old-fashioned decorations should check it out. Legend has it too, that the house is haunted by none other than Captain Irving himself. At the very least, you can see the bed he reportedly died in, and it's one enormous piece of furniture. My guide demurred on confirming the story that an indentation of a body can sometimes be seen in the bedcovers. I saw nothing on my visit, though. In any case, it is New Westminster's oldest surviving home, and thus probably one of the oldest homes in the Vancouver area. It's a wonderful glimpse into what life was like in the early years of British Columbia, if you were high society folk. Admission is by donation, so it's affordable even for writers to visit.

It is in Fare Zone 2 and has side platforms, so doors open on the right. The station was completed in 1985 and received an extensive remodel/rebuild in 2012 when it opened as part of the Shops at New West center. Shops at New West has restaurants, supermarket, a cinema and lots of retail spending opportunities. There is a bus stop here with connections on a dozen or so lines. Escalators and elevators are here as the station is fully handicapped accessible. It is above ground and somewhat protected from the elements. The place consists mostly of small businesses, with easy SkyTrain platform access. There's a bit of everything in there, such as banks and fast food. There's even a supermarket (Safeway) attached. My favourite part is the caged (suicide-proof) bridge that crosses over the tracks. Great for watching the trains go by while reflecting on life.
