Came here as a new patient for a quick eye exam and contact prescription refill. Called the day before, was very easy to get an appointment. Had Dr. Tuong Vi Pham who was efficient and enjoyable - felt she was very thorough but also moved the appointment along at an appropriate pace. Overall I had a great experience - the office is in an odd area (it's in a strip mall off Washington Ave so was a tad tough to find initially) but I definitely will be a return customer! Optometrist Doctor Bwint decided it was a good idea when told my daughter has autism (trouble following directions, mixes up numbers and letters, difficulty focusing... you know. Things that would effect a vision test) to ask "are you sure?" My husband, bewildered said "uh yes" and when we complained to the office about the comment she CALLED ME HERSELF to say "well she has a very mild case and I've seen children with more severe autism. I don't see why it's an issue." Instead of apologizing for dismissing my daughters disability... Already have their NPI number and business license to contact whomever I can about making sure it's understood this doctor is not properly trained to work with disabled individuals or children. read more

I loved this place; everyone is friendly and knowledgeable without being pushy. The Dr is super cool and got me & my husband in and out in less than an hour on a BUSY Saturday. This place is SHADY! I don't like to leave bad reviews unless they deserve it. I know people are human, but this is not okay! I had an eye exam in maybe late February? I payed the fee for the exam and contact fitting, which came with a pair of trial contacts. The contacts weren't 100%, so they told me that they would order a few pairs from different companies. As I was trying to make an appointment, the pandemic happened. I am EXTREMELY high risk, because I am post chemotherapy, and in remission, which I told the people, and I had to wait until things got better. I called today to try the other pairs, and they won't let me since it's been too long (yeah.. the pandemic isn't me just blowing it off) and I would have to get ANOTHER exam for more money. I couldn't get a refund since I already had the exam. Shady business, I don't recommend. read more

I had previously made an appointment with a competitor; however, I was persuaded to made an appointment here when they showed me they go above and beyond to make sure all my questions were answered, rather than being annoyed. The previous competitor didn't bother giving me a call back after I left them a voicemail. The receptionist was friendly as well as welcoming, interacting with clients and conversing with them, not only with glasses but just having genuine conversation as I overlooked. She was very accommodating! The female doctor wasn't as friendly, a bit cold if I can say so myself; however, she was thorough with my examination and corrected my vision. Turns out, I have astigmatism! I had my glasses made that day and it only took 40 minutes since they carried the lenses in stock and the male that worked in his lab even admitted he made a mistake and fixed it, at no cost to me. His honesty made me a client for good as well as the pricing not being over the top. I'll be back for future appointments and would recommend. Just be sure to make an appointment, this place gets busy fairly quickly! read more

I was so excited to find a place to get lenses so well reviewed by fellow yelpers. However I left this place nearly in TEARS. I'll make a long story short: They BROKE my current glass and were willing to do very little about it. They offered me a pair of bargain bin frames as a replacement, but let me assure you, regardless of how hip granny glasses look on American Apparel models, what they were offering me was hideous. He admitted he broke them but tried to say "they must be old and the plastic must have been dry". My frames were 2 years old! I was there to get lenses put into what I thought was going to be a new spare pair. I asked is he could discount the new lenses since he broke my old ones and I had no interest in the ugly frames he offered. He said he could take off 10%. That's a 14.00 discount for breaking my glasses in two! I took both my frames and left, now with ZERO working glasses. I understand accidents happen, but take responsibility! read more

For me, it's always a bit nerve wracking trying to pick out a new doctor... Isn't it a bit weird that it's easier to get reviews of resturants (say here on Yelp) than thorough reviews of doctors? And I've had some BAD experiences with new doctors... Anyway, I also had a bad experience calling Philadelphia Eye Associates (see that review) so I tried New World Vision which is also close by. They have Saturday and Sunday hours so they gave me an appointment THE NEXT MORNING. Amazing! When I headed to the store I was a bit thrown off by the neon signs on the front window, but the service ended up being great! First of all, I'm lucky to have two sets of insurance coverage for vision (my regular medical benefits plus coverage through my union) and the receptionist was fantastic at showing me how I could utilize both my benefits to get the maximum coverage and to get glasses and contacts at the same time. Dr. Dinh did my exam. He was thorough, friendly and very approachable for questions which I think is so important. He's one of the reasons I was compelled to put this review up here. Highly professional and recommended. (Closed Wednesdays and no doctor in on Fridays. But again, they have weekend hours!) read more

BEST. I had an emergency eye problem - i was suspecting conjunctivitis, but knew that wasn't it and had no idea what else it could be. My regular eye doctors (Philadelphia Eye Associates) had a very tight schedule with only 1 doctor who deals with contact lenses, so I asked a friend who works here. She's awesome, btw! Turns out it was caused by my contact lenses. After recently switching jobs and health insurance this place accepted my vision plan and had mentioned that it's a good one. I got my doctor appointment the same day, some advice to take a break from wearing my contacts and made an appointment to get new frames and order contacts. I came back and my friend Thai was really helpful when deciding what i should do when it came to ordering the stuff i needed with the coverage i had. i picked out some awesome frames that i would never find at Philadelphia Eye Associates. PLUS! they have a great selection of retro frames for flat rates, just make sure you ask for them. I would recommend this place to anyone. the staff is very helpful and informative, the doctors are friendly and not awkward at all, and their selection of frames are really cool. definitely coming back. especially for more of those retro frames. :) read more

Don't waste your time going. First of all, it smelled when I walked in which should've been the red flag. Second, I asked to see Dr. Belfer when I was called back it was Dr. Patel. Third, the "exam" was maybe 5 minutes long. By far the shortest exam I've ever had in the 10+ years I've needed glasses. I was given max 3 options per eye to see if my eyes needed a different prescription. Did the retina scan and I've always had my small optic nerve called out (which is not an issue since it's always been that way and hasn't gotten worse) and this doctor said absolutely nothing about it which shocked me in a very bad way. read more

This is my 1st time at NWVC. I was impressed with Dr. Carly Grondin. She was very thorough, patient, and caring. She prescribed the best lens I have had in years. I really liked Dr. Young, and I'd like to think the problems I experienced at New World were just oversights. But my experience was similar to Alison A's (9/10/20) review. Federal law requires an optometrist to give the patient a prescription after a contact lens exam, even if the patient doesn't ask for it. On my first visit, New World charged me out-of-pocket for two contact lens exams - a single vision and multi-focal lens exam - but said they couldn't issue a prescription and I had to come back. On my second visit, I discovered the multifocal lenses that they recommended were over $100 a box and asked for a reissue of my current, single-vision prescription ($44 a box) which they kindly provided. They don't carry my existing brand. When I tried to buy contacts online later, I discovered that New World had double-billed my insurer for the same contact lens exam that they charged to me. It took me an hour on the phone to get the claim reversed and I can't buy contacts for several more days. So oversight or not, New World's billing practices are really a problem. read more

Although Dr. Bwint is awesome, I wouldn't recommend this place if you are getting glasses. I ordered some unrimmed glasses and they gave them to me uneven. When I complained that they were crooked, the guy argued with me (although three friends also noticed it). I told him I wanted my money back, he said he would send them out again, but that I couldn't complain anymore after that. Obviously he gave them to me the second time still crooked, but I had to live with it. I had to go back for a followup eye visit and when I showed them to a girl employee (he was not present), she said she also noticed how they were unbalanced. You've been warned... read more

Bad place. Never come here or the other one in north philly. I went to get a new eye glass prescription and found out I had a eye infection. Dr. Dinh advised me to come back next week so I left and payed for my new eye glass lens prescription and Dr. Dinh gave me temporary lens until I return the following week. As the week came I got a phone call and I was told I had to pay again for the official lens I already paid for. So bottom line, we had a big fuss and they said I had to pay or I wasn't going to get my lenses I already paid for even though I had a receipt for it. I felt very disrespected and cheated. This place is meant for old Asians who can't speak English. If your english is good, there are plenty of other cheap places. UPDATE: P.S. I also heard from a good friend that is related to the owner that their brand name glasses are FAKE!! LOL! I would never recommend this place to anyone. I got my eye exam done here and doctor put me in a less powerful prescription than I had previously worn. I knew something was off but figured I'd give him the benefit of the doubt. Well he was dead wrong so I had to go back and get reevaluated. Normally I don't mind when people waste my time but when I'm a paying customer and they don't even apologize for their mistake, I start to mind. After all the hassles I got my glasses just fine and had some additional troubles with my contacts which I can't even begin to describe. Overall, I have been wearing glasses & contacts for 15 years and have never had issues like this before. Never. Save yourself some trouble and try another place for your eye doctor. read more

Worst retail experience of my life! ~Manager changed price from 119 to 149 (how easy to change a 1 to a 4) ~Tried his very hardest to get me to accept the thickest, cheapest lenses with the wrong prescription and wrong material. I had ordered the thinnest premium coated lenses!! ~NOT EVEN CLOSE~ (He said: "You wear a couple of days..you get used to it" ( Yes, It will take a couple of days to get used to worse vision) ~Brought in my own sunglasses with polarized, mirrored lenses..very expensive. Which he stole the lenses from me. He said: "I don't know what lenses your talking about, Your sunglasses had no lenses" Final Thought: The manager at New World Vision is a terrible liar and a thief. I must be one in a few but both times I come to this place (one for glasses and one for contact), they always put me down for the weaker prescription and i had to come back twice to fix it and honestly, it's still a little blurry for me. same for the contact. i asked if it's because the prescription need to be stronger, but she insisted that it's the contact's brand and wrote down the prescription exactly how my glasses from half a year ago was. even thought i told her that it is blurry. I'm a real picky and hard to please a guy (ask my ex - wives). I've been going to New World Vision Center since 2004 and have since purchased seven pairs of prescription glasses from them. The service and convenience of this place is amazing. I've always been able to walk in on a whim and be serviced immediately. They always seem to have an optometrist on duty to quickly and thoroughly, examine my vision. The staff is low-key and extremely helpful and accommodating. In two instances, where I was being fussy and wasn't hundred percent satisfied with my progressive lenses, they quickly, and without objection, re-examined me and made the lens is perfect. The selection and styles of frames are very good; the prices are probably on the lower side of average; in the parking is ample. I wouldn't go anywhere else. read more

Eye doctor's experience: I've been to this office several times, the eye doctor (think it was Dr. Dinh) - she was really nice to me, but was young and not that experienced. I had to make a 2nd visit the last time I went to get new lenses because the prescription was too strong and gave me a headache. Staff's friendliness: I had been at college far from home for a few years and was unable to find the time to make an appointment. And being a poor college student, I didn't have health insurance for eyes. They (the Asian woman receptionist) treated me awfully and scolded at me with a scorn for not checking up my eyes every year: "YOU SHOULD EXAMINE YOUR EYES EVERY YEAR!...". This was in front of all the other customers waiting in the lobby They are not at all understanding. Just cause I missed a year? Professionalism: They tossed out my records of me having been a customer at their place for years. Didn't believe me until I showed them the flexion glasses that their store carries. Not only that, their craftsmen ship is poor. The degree of the lens they prescribed gave me a head ache, so I went back several days later to ask if I can get new lenses same as my old ones. They didn't grind the eye glass lens to fit into the frame very well, I can see gaps between the frame and lens even without my glasses on. Convenience: You don't have to have an appointment, and is opened on Saturdays but,parking is a pain in this busy plaza this office is situated in.
