Very unprofessional staff and I agree these are far from New York style bagels. We had a fairly large order but nothing that warranted the service we received. I have been going to New York Bagel since the early 1990's. These bagels used to be the best. I recently brought my nephew to grab their "amazing" bagels and to show him my former daily hangout. Eventhough the store had been moved to a different location in the same plaza, I enjoyed both buildings. When we arrived and ordered, I have to say I was disappointed. It had none of the old feel or nostalgia associated with the original owners. Under new ownership, the bagels are just not the same. The staff was not very attentive or friendly. This place used to be THE HANGOUT spot for the local college and high school. Always packed, always fresh and high in quality. The previous owners and staff knew their regulars and made the place feel like home. That is not the case anymore. Then the bagels hardly had any cream cheese, were not fresh and my nephews bagel sandwich was lacking flavor. I couldn't even cover the entire bagel with the amount of cream cheese they put on it. Nor could I taste anything but the bagel flavor because it was basically absent. You used to have to take some off because when you would go, you would get a triple smear that could cover about 3 bagels. In preparation I had asked for a plastic knife to get ready to remove some but I definitely didn't have to do that. Then the price has also increased incredibly and you would expect the quality to be good enough to warrant the increase but it wasn't. I also would buy the bakers dozen and homemade bagels chips to bring home frequently but I would be apprehensive doing that now because they are no better than store bought bagels. Went on a Sunday morning and they still had all items left to choose from so a good selection. Took some home and ordered one plain bagel with butter to go. Initial reaction is it didn't look like a bagel and then I noticed the uncooked ones look more like a closed U shape. (See photo) Not round and most were closed up with no hole in the middle. Also not sure how to explain it but they tasted more like bagel toast. Crumbly and dry when bitten into. Not chewy like you expect a bagel to be. As far as the cream cheese we didn't get any for our extra bagels because the prices were higher than I liked. I was excited to try here after the inside finally reopened and with new owners (Almac's purchased). Inside was updated, still same booths but love to be able to come in and look at my options. When I arrived there were three parties ahead of me and all seemed agitated for different reasons. At first I thought the customers were all just being rude, but after observing I can see where the issues may be. One couple in front of me was trying to order some sandwiches and they were out of multiple items they tried to order. Not staff's fault but may be a food prep or ordering issue. Another couple ordered for here and they received the incorrect bagel. So they redid for them. They handed them a paper bag and said they were out of the for here food tray. And another woman ordered a bagel with cream cheese and was charged $8, but then they revised to $6. She was told it was due to the gourmet cream cheese she selected. She opted for cream cheese in a tub which is sold by weight (per pound) and bulk bagels. My server was very nice. She seemed to work the drive thru but had no customers. I had an everything bagel with horseradish cream cheese and a large iced hazelnut coffee. It came to $9.66. The price has greatly increased since new ownership and I didn't care for the coffee. The hazelnut used to be a brewed unsweetened coffee that was unreal. Now it's Torani hazelnut syrup. It was good but not amazing for me to make a special trip for. I think training may need to take place and perhaps some stock updates to avoid disappointed customers. My tip would be to buy a dozen bagels to grab for home and either buy a container of their cream cheese or just buy some at the store. read more

I had the most awful experience just a few minutes ago. I have been a decades long 1/week customer. I ordered 1/2 dozen bagels through the drive thru and didn't realize I received the wrong order until I was driving away. I went into the store to get my correct order. I patiently waited my turn to talk to someone about the mistake. While explaining what happened to a middle aged woman a younger woman jumped in and said she asked me if the that was my order and I didn't answer. And she also accused me of giving the middle aged woman attitude ( I wasn't and the middle aged woman even said I was fine.). The younger woman now said she asked me several times if that was my order and I didn't answer. In short due to the attitude I got from this young woman I will NOT be patronizing NYBC anymore. read more

The food is great. They definitely have the best bagels in the area. However, the service is not good. Many of the workers make you feel like you're doing them a disservice by being there. Here is what 22 bucks will get you at NYB. An egg salad sandwich on stale bread. Don't ask for anything added to it though because they will charge you for the extras and not put them on. It should come with a pickle slice, but I was stupid enough to ask for a whole pickle, which I got charged for and didn't get what was suppose to come with my sandwich. A bag of chips, and a 20oz diet coke. On top of the 22$ i left a 5$ tip. Is it worth it? Nope, egg salad tasted sour, and i was scared to eat it. By far the rudest customer service I've experienced in sometime. I ordered a plain bagel well done with salmon. The girl asked what I would like on it I said how about tomato cucumber onions and you can surprise me with the cream cheese. She said she don't have cucumber I figured ya it's a bagel shop why would they. So she prepared it I received it I added bottle of water and chips I paid $22 & change I gave the cashier $26 I ask for the receipt Sat down to eat and enjoyed it very much I thought a little skimpy on the salmon but it was delicious. As I was looking at the case next to me I noticed they had salad's so out of curiosity I got up and looked and there was a whole bag of cucumbers sitting right there where she made my sandwich. I waited until the girl had a moment and started by saying the sandwich was great but why did you tell me you did not have cucumber when I see a whole bag of them sliced up. She said and I quote I told you what we are allowed to put on your bagel and cucumbers are not allowed! I was speechless all I could say is why? And her answer was because she said so! I was completely dumbfounded, shocked. I asked for a manager she laughed at that and said she would be out eventually. I stood there for a good 7 plus minutes until miss I said so went on the back and another 5 minutes they both come out and I start again with first I want to say that the sandwich was very good she stopped me and angerly said this is about the cucumbers I know! We don't put them on sandwiches I asked again why? Sarah replied because that's the way the owner wants it! I said ok fine can I have the owners name she laughed at me for asking just like the other girl. Janelle is the owner she works on Thursday and Friday and she added good luck with that. Here is what these two miserable employees need to know starting last July I have been going to South Coast Health right up the street and when I went into you're bagel shop over a year ago I bragged about the selection and the freshness so every time I go to appointments I would stop there it has been two to three times every other month. NEVER AGAIN! I believe you're disposition and miserable attitudes might come from the top down (hence) being laughed at for asking for manager and owner. Good flavor, kinda chewy which I didn't love, and it was a good size. It wasn't as big as a Dunkin' bagel though if that gives you an idea. Average size for a mom and pop shop bagel. The cream cheese was scallion and not chive like most places have, which I loved! The scallion adds a better flavor than the chive can in cream cheese in my opinion so I appreciated that. I am so disappointed by how I was just treated and spoken to at the drive-thru of a place I faithfully come to twice a week every week. I loved this place and now I'm shaking and don't even want to eat my food. The girl at the drive-thru apparently didn't like the way I phrased my order? So she talked down to me like I was a 5 year, "uhh how about you say it all together next time?" I miss being able to go INTO this restaurant and sit down to have a nice sandwich. Inexplicably, they have not reopened the dining room since the Covid restrictions were lifted. Now you have to wait in line at through 15 cars deep. No thanks. They serve an excellent bagel here, not a doubt about it. I have leaned towards the poppy seed, the egg, very berry and a few others. They are the most well represented bagels on the southcoast, no doubt about it. We get a dozen a week for the two of us and we are always well secured, each of us missing a day every other week (they do give a true bakers dozen, 13). I won't lie, their bagels are delicious. But the service is by far the worst around; the people working there epitomize rude. I understand everyone has bad days, but this is a pretty common occurrence whenever I go. They huff and puff while taking your order, as if they have to go hand-pick the grains to make the bagel. They're more worried about giving you an attitude and being "right" about bagels and cream cheese than they are the customer experience. Most of them appear to be going through withdrawal while waiting on you, so I guess you can't really expect more. read more
