Horrible food horrible business. I asked for a pork roll egg and cheese to find out he was about to microwave the pork roll and I was going to let it slide until I found out he was tossing an egg patty in another cheap looking microwave. Immediately I changed my order to a simple toasted bagel with cream cheese only to receive a awful bagel hardly toasted with hardly any cream cheese. To put the cherry on top we had the worst coffee of all time. More like bitter water. He should be arrested for calling himself New York bagel. I was hopeful, but disappointed. I don't know what it is about bagel shops in the south but they do not know how to toast a bagel. Toasted and heated are very different. I ordered the bacon egg and cheese bagel.. egg was similar to McDonald's egg and bacon is definitely microwaved. Not terrible, but definitely not "NY" bagels. This place is ok. We arrived 20 minutes before they closed, the selection was slim, but they were friendly for us coming in so close to closing. The bagels, were just fine. Similar to what you'd find at at grocery store, very dense and doughy... this is not what you'd find in NY. But it was fine. Just keep low expectations and you'll be well ready for the taste and quality of these bagels. read more

Highly disappointed in this bagel shop. I typically go to bonnies which is great, however i decided to try a new spot. I walk in order a typical bagel all while the guy behind the counter talked up his bagels alot saying things like "wait to you try this bacon." "It so good good," "your going to love it" needless to say I was excited to try such a delicacy. Then sorely let down. The Bagel was mediocre at best, the bacon wasn't crispy and lacked flavor it reminded me kind of like the bacon you'd get at subway only worse. It was so bad I didn't finish it. read more

Bagels are a weakness of mine...they are the only thing that can make me deviate from my eating plan when I am in my zone. Everything, lightly toasted and heavily buttered....yumm! I am consistently on the lookout for bagels to match the ones I used to get after my workouts at Golds Gym in Bailey's Crossroads from a place called Zi Pani. They had it all...chewy texture, yeasty flavor, perfect toppings. Einstein and Chesapeake are good, and if you combined the best of the two, you would get close....Panera...Nah, sorry, they don't even put your butter or cream cheese on for you, and they lack any real yeasty flavor...part of the homogenized cater to all corporate food chain. Even Cosmo Kramer's famed H&H Bagels don't quite get it. These bagels get it, to the T! The only reason they didn't get 5 stars is paying almost $2.50 for a bagel with butter is a bit high on the wtf? level...but still...go...and if you like everything bagels, try the everything egg bagels here...phenomenal! Oh, and the service is extremely warm and friendly...great people to chat with. read more

We stopped here on our way out of a nice OBX vaca. I have an endless list but ill start with this. 1. Place is not sanitary 2. We ordered three things and two were incorrect! They gave me a sausage and cheese with no egg....... 3. They don't have ice coffee...but not only that they were out of hot coffee too!!!....it was 8:00am. 4. Took 20 minutes 5. Place is a tourist trap! 6. They don't even toast their bagels. 7. It tasted horrible. read more

If I could give this place a zero I would. We were in at the end of August. There must have been a power outage as the lights were half on and you could tell the people working we're stressed. However, this by no means excuses the behaviors that were exhibited. But first, the food. Coming from New York I understand the bagels would not be entirely the same however, you are better off going to Dunkin' Donuts or a supermarket for a bagel than this place. The bagels that were there as half were not available due to the outage were terrible. Tasted like a bland white bread with absolutely no flavor. My husband ordered a pork roll egg and cheese. We almost walked out when we saw them pull the egg (if it was egg) and pork roll out and put it into the microwave. We should have walked out at that point. We sat to eat at his terrible food only to witness the worst customer service I have ever seen. Another customer had ordered some bagels and two coffees. When going to get the coffee the coffee was out in which she asked for more coffee. The woman behind the counter grunted as she was microwaving some food for another customer. She than instructed the young male employee to fill the coffee. Once the customer finished fixing her coffee there were no lids available. The customer asked politely for some lids. She clearly was taking the coffee to go and needed lids. The woman behind the counter flipped out on the young woman. The employee beraded her in front of all of the customers telling her that she needed to fix her attitude and realize that they were working in difficult conditions due to the power outage etc... She also continued that the vacationers and non locals don't understand how hard they work and are ungrateful. (I am pretty sure the reason for their business in this area is to accommodate locals and vacationers) The customer almost in tears responded I only asked for a lid. The employee continued to blow up at the customer telling her that she is miserable and she shouldn't be that there were worse things going on and she has nothing to complain about. She continued that the young woman should take some Zanex or some drugs to relax. What terrible food and customer service! read more

Looks like they bought their food from Costco. Bagels were doughy and the eggs came out of the microwave and bacon was not fresh it tasted like pre cooked frozen bacon. Couldn't finish the bagels we bought had to throw them out it was so gross. read more

this place was great! we were craving bagels and lox and hoping we could find some on the outer banks. we were excited to see the ny bagels sign and walked in hoping for the best. their staff was SO friendly and got excited with us when they saw our faces light up when we found out they had lox!! we ordered their "norwegian" with lox, cream cheese, onions, tomatoes and capers. the sandwiches were great! the bagels weren't the best I've had, a little dryer than I prefer, but we still really enjoyed them. we will be back on our next trip down! read more

Not so good... The guy working the counter was very nice and the place was clean but he made the mistake of telling me he made the bagels fresh every morning. I ordered two everythings, untoasted, with cream cheese. I would have done just as well to go to the Food Lion next door and picked up a package of frozen Lenders bagels. They were dense and very obviously NOT made fresh every morning or even in house. A big dissappointment since he had Taylor pork roll on the menu, I thought I might get a great bagel...Not so much. read more

Perhaps the people who left good reviews wrote them for previous owners. I would definitely call this place a tourist trap. Not only is dunkin doughnuts better, my grocery store brand from a bag bagel was better. Bagel did not taste fresh, must have been frozen or something. Husbands breakfast sandwich was dry, our son has an allergy and when we tried to ask how they make the eggs (with butter or not) we figured out they didn't know because they were microwaved. Should have "New York" revoked from their name. Oh yeah, and they didn't have any coffee left! And our soda was expired! Yuck, do you know how long it takes soda to expire? Gross. Born in Brooklyn I know what a good bagel tastes like and these bagels are spectacular and the service is old school like the soup guy on Seinfeld except the owner is a great guy. This is our go to spot for bagels AND pastries when we vacation at OBX. Get there early because the often sell out. read more

The quality of the product is beyond what I was used too and they also offer a variety of other delicious items that will tantalize you until you try some. New York Bagels is definitely a place I will visit more than once. Nothing extravagant, but very warm and friendly. The bagels were delicious. I tried their newest creation, a maple bacon bagel, and was not disappointed. I topped it with jalapeño cream cheese, which was also delicious. I think the bagel would go better with plain or a cinnamon cream cheese next time. The place doesn't have as many options as some of the bigger chains, but it doesn't need a ton to be successful. Horrible experience and quite possibly the worst customer service I have ever seen. As a former restaurant manager there are some basic do and dont's of running a business. First let me say we waited at least ten minutes in the off season for the one guy in front of us in line to get his order while we waited without ordering. There was one man behind the counter who I assume was the owner. The phone rang while we had been in there ten minutes waiting to order he takes a phone order and says I'll have it waiting. Mind you there were only six bagels to even pick from on a Sunday morning Easter weekend. We go to order after patiently waiting and he says oh I just took a phone order for that kind. I have these two left. Are you kidding me?!?!? We were waiting and someone calls while we are in there and he sells four of the six bagels in the case! What a horrible place and owner!
