I read the reviews beforehand and I wasn't sure what to expect. And I guarantee you, the people who work there are wonderful. I bought a package that included: the mandatory 5 hours class, 5 driving practices, booking the road test and the car for the road test. All this was about $280/290 which is great if you ask me. They do offer several different packages and they'll help you pick depending if you drove before etc. A few tips: they have the mandatory 5 hours class twice a week, Wednesdays in the afternoon and Saturday morning. They do tell you to show up at least 30 minutes before the class starts and you should. It's first come first serve so if you're there beforehand you'll get a seat, otherwise if it fills up there's a chance you have to come back another day. So make sure you're there early for the 5 hours class! Now regarding my driving practices, all instructors I had were very patient and professional. I definitely learned a few new things here and there. I had Tracy, Carla, Katrina (twice) and a guy but unfortunately I forgot his name. I really liked them all. So thank you guys!!! On the day of the road test Chris drove me to the test site. She's very nice and informative. And I passed. The whole process took about a month but it can take way less depending on your availability.

After the client informed this company that they had never driven or even knew what an accelerator pedal was, this client was paired with Carla, an instructor who had no patience, only communicates by yelling and apparently has NO IDEA of what's realistic for a beginner to be able to do during their FIRST lesson. Forgive the run-on, but parallel parking is not skill you require from someone who's having their very first driving experience. Never again! ZERO STARS

I want to know what I can do on land to improve my surfing. I want to get some seriously awesome tips on how to better my game. But I also want a cool human being to hang with for 1.5hrs. Someone who is personable, fun, engaging. And you get all of that with NYC Surfing. My friend (surf newbie) who joined us was super nervous + she was made to feel comfortable. I really recommend going surfing in the Rockaways if you're looking for a fun activity to do…read more My biggest regret was not going to Rockaway Beach more frequently because of how accessible by public transportation it is.....it just takes a bit of time depending on where you live. I've surfed before, but wanted to try this school out since it's been a while and was unfamiliar with the waves. I did the $90 group package and it was definitely worth it. They provided the wetsuit and board, so all you had to bring was yourself. The instructors were super friendly and encouraging. The guy I had did a really great job of just simply explaining key points so you can get on your board and ride. The amount of time spent surfing is plentiful and you will have a ton of chances to ride nice waves. My recommendation is to google the wave heights and coordinate the best time to ride. Would definitely do it again, and I think for next year I'm contemplating on buying a 10-pack package so I can go more often. Surfs Up!

The water was 65 degrees, but with the wet suit they provided I felt comfortable the whole time. The board was a 9 foot foam top with three fins. Angela provided on-beach instruction on how to paddle and pop-up -- which was pretty quick, so we got right in the water. Andrew took us in the water and we started catching waves right away. He puts you in just the right position and gives you a push and tells you when to pop-up. We basically caught a ton of waves all day with tips on form throughout. Andrew is very nice and a pleasure to hang with. The waves were small, maybe 2 to 3 feet, but it was perfect for learning how to stand up and ride straight in to the beach.
