I read the lovely Emma L's review of this and, upon walking past it as I too usually do, I turned on the spot and went in. It's never really grabbed me, but in the spirit of giving everything a shot and trying everything once, I decided that my lunch would be from New York Coffee Club.
I opted for the haloumi, green pesto and sun-dried tomato toastie and a millionaire's slice. The toastie tasted amazing - great flavours! I enjoyed every bite. All six of them. This thing is really pretty tiny once it's toasted, so if you're looking for something to fill you up then go for something else or order two! Maybe I just have an abnormal appetite, but I felt it really was rather small. That being said, it was cheaper than the usual toastie, coming in at £3-something, so the size can be excused a little.
The Millionaire's Slice was tasty but nothing mind-blowing... It too was quite slim and by no means oozing caramel like a great Millionaire's Slice does.
The interior is nicely done and it's a comfortable place. There's a children's area from mums to come with their kids and let them have a play whilst they enjoy a coffee and there's some cool NYC images up on the walls as well. The staff were really nice and professional too.
I didn't try their coffee, so it's perhaps not fair to judge them totally until I do, however this experience left me pretty happy but not overwhelmed. I'll go again probably, if I'm passing by, but I don't see this becoming a regular spot of mine. They do have free wifi though.... read more
