My daughter finished Kindergarten here and will be going into 1st grade and I very highly approve of what I've seen here at OPS. Great teachers, food menus, facilities, and programs! OPS is for K & 1st only, then the kids go to High Hills for 2nd & 3rd, Shaw Heights for 4th & 5th, then out to Hillcrest for middle school. I think it's actually brilliant to seperate them like that so they can focus on learning and having fun without the pressures of older kids.

We have seen much growth and change at Hammond in our 13 years with technology, new facilities on campus, curriculum as it is an environment that knows to excel you can never stop learning and being open to change. Helen Kiser joined the Hammond family this past summer as LS Head and has already won the respect as well as the hearts of students, faculty and families. I know that with her passion for children and positive nature our LS will continue to amaze and engage our students to do great things and more importantly become kind and generous citizens. I have said to many parents that ask about our US, the guidance and dedicated partnership your family receives from the College Counseling Department in 9th-12th grade is well worth the investment of tuition. Oakhurst Elementary was closed in 2011 due to CMS budget cuts and later reopened as a CMS…read moreAdministrative Center. In March of 2013 CMS announced a $400 million education upgrade and plans to reopen Oakhurst Elementary as a K-8 STEAM partial magnet school in time for the 2015 - 2016 school year. The core focus at the newly branded Oakhurst STEAM Academy will be on Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math... aka STEAM. Since its been given the "partial magnet" status, there is a percentage of first priority available seats to children living within the outlined neighborhood boundaries which include Chantilly, Amity Gardens, Commonwealth Morningside, Echo Hills, and Oakhurst. All other children attending Oakhurst Elementary will have to enter via a lottery. The official school mascot is the Oakhurst Rockets and the school colors will be light blue and light orange. Oakhurst STEAM Academy will feature a Science and Robotic Labs, Lego Walls, a even a 3D Printer!!! The re-opening of Oakhurst Elementary is a very welcome change in the neighborhood and will serve as the staging ground for CMS to improve the education of the next generation of Charlotteans :)

My kids have never looked forward to going to school so much. Plus, they get to go on the most amazing field trips.
