We showed up ten minutes after the kitchen normally closed, but Roz asked if we had had dinner yet and said she "wouldn't have us starving." The food was delicious. A little bit of a drive but well worth it and extremely picturesque, our room was clean and very roomy, with a modern large bathroom. Our room initially seemed OK however on closer inspection we had to ask the staff to change the hospitality tray as it hadn't been cleaned properly in days (it wasn't just remnants of detritus from the previous guest). The Bathroom was in great need of a thorough clean and update (again I had to ask in the morning that the bathroom be cleaned including the black mould that must have been there for weeks). I had assumed Digital TV had reached Otterburn however unfortunaltley our TV only got 4 channels so had to suffer CBBC's or T4 in the morning (never thought I would have missed Andrew Marr in a morning till then) not that I go away to watch TV but sometimes its nice to catch up with events in a morning. We ate twice here once in the Stables bar and the next night in the Hotel Restaurant both times we enjoyed the food and the service was excellent. Breakfast was fine, however it would have been better had one member of staff notice and removed the rotting apple (yes I did say rotting) from the fruit selection on the breakfast bar. After my partner removed it and left it on the side it still remained there throughout the rest of the morning. I would say that on the whole the hotel is understaffed and although all the staff who were there are pleasant and helpful, the maintenance and standards of hygiene are well below expectations. No I will not be returning here !!!

It is a hotel and the reception is inside the pub so it is open all day which is unusual for many of the village pubs in this area. They serve food from noon till 3pm and 6pm till 9pm but we didn't dine so I can't comment on the quality of the food. There were three or four local beers on including Secret Kingdom and Coast to Coast from Hadrian's Border Brewery as well as the usual lagers etc. There is a pool table, and we enjoy a game, but on each occasion that we were in it was totally monopolised by the landlord and staff. I'm sure we could have put our 50p on the table but I don't think we'd have been too popular! :-) The pub is dog friendly and has a beer garden to the rear which would be a nice place to while away an hour on a sunny day. Reasonable little pub really, I'd have given it four stars if we'd been able to play pool! :-)

We are in the dining room last night and the bathrooms smelled like manure and there was no toilet paper. As a female, it is kind of a necessity. The toilet was so close to the wall you had to kind of sit sideways. And there were tons of flies and I don't know why. There was no hot water. You turn the knob and absolutely nothing happens. The cold water works just fine though. There is no parking on site as advertised. The beds are incredibly uncomfortable. The pillows are flat like they are several years old. The door to our room (11) doesn't shut properly so an alarm goes off letting you know it's not locked. On the fire escape outside my window are several irons and ironing boards and a picture just sitting there. Dinner last night was good but pricey. There are no extra rolls of toilet paper. I get the building is 400 years old and will have issues but certainly does need some TLC. No experiences with the paranormal either but has nothing to do with my review.

I wanted to leave but Amin was such a good host I bit the bullet, and mustered the one night. Also, I had to go downstairs to ask for toilet paper, then at break of dawn I got up to shower a bit tired from restless night of one eye open, and to my surprise there is no cold water! Just hot hot water! But in the sink, there is cold water! They say this hotel is haunted, i think it might be the rats that reside inside the walls of this establishment. Oh, shower was recently upgraded, still not worth staying here unless your a friend of Ferrol rats.
