Ken and Sheila have been managing this campground for many years and have developed a clientele of regular campers. This makes the campground atmosphere a bit friendlier than other campgrounds. It is not uncommon to have an impromptu pot luck with your neighbors. When the fish are running this campground can fill up quickly so calling ahead to make reservation is recommended.

It's nice to get away from Anchorage and camp and also avoiding the Seward Highway by coming up this way. We have tons of errands to do, so it's nice that wasilla and Palmer are close by to get stuff done, but still feel like we are out camping and enjoying the last of the summer. The check in process was very simple to, with clear instructions. I am very impressed. Every detail was thought of. We will be back! Thank you!

Lots of car noise here and if some doozy tourist nodded off, it wouldn't be good. We saw many folks park too far away (nearest the lodge, with the popular dry cabins) and then had to trek unnecessarily. Lots of bathrooms, a few snack and drink areas. We recently visited on a sunny day with tons of traffic. We were able to enter and explore a few of the buildings and artifacts. Lots of reading material available throughout the "tour." I would return and bring visitors.

First, upon arrival in the parking lot, you will find ample parking spaces and a beautiful view (weather pending) of the entire Matsu Valley including Pikneer and Matanuska Peaks. Second, there are several boards with information to check out. One of the boards includes a small pamphlet with all the trails. I HIGHLY recommend grabbing one. The hiking trail intersects with the ski trails at several points and the map is very helpful. (But still a little confusing) Third, the trail itself is wonderful. I took off on the "Race Trail." It's is very easy (but a little wet in October) for the first .95 miles. After that it starts to head uphill at a pretty decent angle. About a mile and half in, you intersect with the Blueberry Knoll Loop. It's not a far climb, but the views on a clear day become spectacular very quickly. At the 1 mike marker, there is an offshoot trail that heads to a picnic table and two Adirondack chairs. Very relaxing spot.

We had the lake to ourselves. The area around the lake was clean, there are plenty of picnic tables, bbq pit and kids play area around as well. They also have a boat launch area on the other side. Tip: Come here during week day to enjoy the quaint lake, 'cause when we stopped by on our way back on Saturday, the place was fully packed.
