Jason Koenigbaur is a registered psychotherapist and has treated both my husband and myself through very horrible tramtic experience. His light therapy & EMDR therapy work very well and we were able to both heal very quickly. Having said that we have both also seen Jodie Lindley for Reiki and Craniosacral Therapy. I saw Jodie for a massage as I have perpetual problems with my shoulder due to air travel and business STRESS. On a visit to Newmarket I was recommended by a colleague to see Jodie who erased all aches and pains in my shoulder: what a fantastic relief! I made an appointment for my child dealing with some anxiety and other related issues. I arrived to meet his 'therapist', only to find it was young social worker. She explained no assessment or diagnosis could be done, but they could basically do the same treatment. She said she reports to a social work supervisor on all case plans. I immediately explained, while I meant no offense, I was more comfortable having my child properly assessed and diagnosed by a mental health professional (psychologist). I wanted to deal directly with one senior qualified professional. I was greeted at 1:35pm and the conversation concluded at 1:41pm. I spent a minute or two of that time waiting for her while she checked with her supervisor about how to handle my departure. I was told I had to pay the full $150 session fee. I asked if there was a cancellation fee, versus paying the full session as we had only spoken for 5 minutes, but was told no, I was responsible for the full fee. I was upset by so many aspects of this. I minored in psychology and respect and believe in it's practice wholeheartedly. I had originally called Jason Koenigbaur, Registered Psychotherapist, MTS, CHT, RP in Aurora. They explained to me he was booked up and made me an appointment with someone in Newmarket. I immediately recognized they had changed my intended course within the first few minutes of meeting her, and spoke up, explaining I respectfully would like to begin treatment through assessment and formal diagnosis. To be honest, I'm concerned this social worker and her superior felt qualified to take on the anxiety and mental health issues I was seeking help for. This seems like something a social worker would refer to a certified child psychologist. I am further appalled they would charge me, a concerned SINGLE mother $150 for a five minute session with a second tier social worker. I share this experience as a warning to other parents of the level of 'care' Newmarket Therapy Centre. read more
