This store in the old JJ Newberry/ Big M space is a neat store for old local Vermont antiques. Mostly small housewares (dishes, glassware, tools, farming, art, photos, postcards, and other collectables the store has decent prices. I enjoy these stores as you never know what you can find. Happened to cut my ski trip short and on the way home I popped in to see what was inside. I didn't find anything on the entrance to the right, but in the other building I walked out with more than a handful. Found a beautiful carpeted area rug, some minerals/gems for my collection, couple display stands for them, and a couple odd ball things for the home. I talked myself out of buying some sports cards and coins so could have been worse. Overall I was pleased with my visit and will one day stop in again.

Everything looks like it has been hand finished, stained if necessary, and polished. Nothing "rickety" that I saw. The art on the walls and on stands are original paintings and mostly limited edition giclee prints of photographs by New England artists. In many ways, the place is like a curated museum, and we will return to see what's new when we're back in Sunapee.

The VNA's coverage in the Kearsarge/Lake Sunapee area is nearly 500 square miles and they provide an amazing job to elderly, hospice, and post-surgical patients who need their services. The Renaissance Shoppe is not a consignment store but made possible through the generous donations of people. The shop has two different sections across the parking lot, one warehouse-type building, the other in the walkout basement of the VNA facility. The warehouse building has primarily furniture, kitchenware and some appliances. The other locale has fine glass and crystal, porcelain, and limited, but fine furniture. With our entertainment schedule, we go through wine glasses like paper plates at a barbecue. So we're oftentimes at Renaissance looking for matching stemware and invariably we find it. At very, very reasonable prices, which is one of the reasons why this is such a great value. Sometime ago, we found a small glass computer table that we had been looking for at commercial outlets for hundreds of dollars, we paid a fraction at Renaissance. And they take all plastic for payments. Affable, nice personnel who are there as volunteers for a great cause.

I expected to find a shop-owner, not a friend, when I began frequenting K-n-K. I found out that she drove her help to work when they were without a car. I like Laurie's story, which is going from banking/corporate to follow her dream of owning a thrift store (c'mon, haven't u always wanted to open your own shop?). And now her dream-come-true is literally bursting at the seams with deals and quality items (consignments must make it past her scrupulous eyes first). Some of the things she offers are Back to school needs, FRESH bedding, and Holiday must-haves. I could spend a gift card here in seconds, and next week too, as changeover is constant. I suggest you come on down and squeeze into the crowd of bargain shoppers at K-n-K. It's NOT an old musty granny store :)
