VERY RUDE MANAGER and very poor customer service by JACK . I…read morebought iPad and pen from here and by mistake the chap who sold it me ( a nicer sales staff ,not Jack) had given me the wrong pen . I phoned the store and was told I could simply swap it the next day with the correct pen . Next day Friday 13th I returned to the shop to exchange the pen. The staff Jack and his manager were both very grumpy from the start the manager told me the pen was an extra £5 now not considering my return to the shop parking and time . I explained I was told it would be exchanged his reply was I'm not losing a F*,!~ing fiver . you can have your money back you should've bought the right person in the first place. Eventually after a disagreement with The grumpy manager who gave very poor customer service total dishonour to Nathan co as a representative of the company, saw the light eventually and reluctantly let me take the pen at no extra charge but lost the sale of a computer console a PS2 they had in the window I enquired about so I walked across the road shortly after I bought one from Cash converters instead I won't be using the shop again . I always have fond memories of this sweet shop (as it was back then) as we always used to visit…read morehere for a bag of sweets before heading to the local ABC cinema next door to watch the latest film (one of the last films I watched there before it was torn down was 'Castaway' starring Tom Hanks, true story). It was good because you could get a bag full of millions waaaaay before they sold them in those crappy thin packets like they do now (and for cheaper). These days, with the demolition of the cinema, Lord Street News has had to branch out and now it's more of a newsagent than just a sweet shop, offering a range of magazines and newspapers to all its customers as well as a decent selection of sweets (though not as good as they used to be). Bizarrely, they also sell children's toys (maybe something to do with their minimarket status on the window) as well as other bits and bobs you might think you need but don't actually. Somewhat creepily, there also appears to be some sort of doll/small children's clothing store underneath the shop, with their garments peaking out just above street level. Thankfully, small garments like these are not on sale in Lord Street News though.

They do lack a little in the Sci-Fi section of which I am an avid reader however the books are categorised and easy to locate what your looking for. Thye also sell a range of sweets, drinks and the shop always seems to be relatively tidy. The staff are friendly and are always willing to help.

As the previous reviewer noted long queues can form making it difficult to get to parts of the store at times but they usually clear fairly quickly so it's not too bad.

If you cant find it here or if John cant get it for you then it either doesn't exist or its not worth having! The shop offers a delivery service for newspapers (i did once work there as a newspaper boy) or he will order in for you and pick up on your way past and get some of the proper sweets out of the jars mmmmm. The shelves are always full no matter what time of year it is so if its something for a kids birthday prezzie or a witches hat for halloween pop in suprise yourself and support a great local independant shop!

S K B News is a solid if unspectacular newsagent that offers its customers the usual selection of…read moresweets, drinks, magazines and newspapers, all of which are available at a fairly reasonable price (obviously their sweets are pretty horrendously overpriced, but definitely no worse than anywhere else). The shop itself is quite small but they do manage to fit quite a lot in, meaning the selection of goods there is pretty impressive. One thing that did catch my eye in the window as I entered was a selection of drawings of such celebrities as Justin Bieber and JLS that whilst somewhat bizarre, was quite entertaining. So, S K B News is a decent place to go for all your magazine, newspaper or confectionary needs as well as if you're looking to pick up a drawing or two of your favourite celebrities. Whether they're done in store I don't know though.
