The News & Star is a great local paper. It's always packed full of information and is a good source to find out what's happening in the community. Most of their articles are also available for free on their website but I prefer the printed paper as there's much more information there. read more

No competition against this newspaper, so they seem to survive on lots of photos people will buy of their children/ parents/ pets etc. Barely scratches together enough news for a 6 day a week publication. Listings are useful, sports coverage handy if you're a Blues fan. You can save yourself the bother of the News & Star by buying the Cumberland News on a Friday, which reprints most of the N&S stories anyway. I've had cause to complain to the News & Star about aspects of their reporting. They don't care at all and did not explain their actions. Sadly, some people read only this paper, with its 1 page of national news. But with the demise of Border TV, I guess we're lucky still to have local media, if it can ride out the recession. read more
