News on the Wharf has a pretty good selection ranging from magazines about shooting to climbing to railways (not bought be me I should add) with everything in-between. There are a number of News on the Wharfs scattered around the Canary Wharf Shopping Centre. The Cabot Place West version is my favourite because it is a bit bigger than the others and is close to my workplace. It also stocks basic stationary and sweets/drinks which can be useful.

The outside windows are plastered with personal notices, about renting, personal trainers to men with vans. Once inside you realise that this is a small little store, yet crammed with everything you'd expect from a newsagents. The selection of daily news is good, and the magazine section fulfils the requirement of most but is short on some of the specialist covers. There is the usual horde of sweets, snacks, chocolate and soda. Special brownie points are scored for Oyster top ups and for Western union money transfers. M&M is a good convenience snack and news stop. It fulfils but does not excel in every requirement of a newsagent. Small but useful.

Capital newsagents are well set up and cover every aspect you'd expect from newsagent. They have an excellent array of daily press and monthly magazines, the fridge is stocked full of drinks, there's a massive amount of sweets, whilst in the back you'll find an impressive amount of stationary, cards and wrapping paper. The added extras are the ability to send money abroad via Western Union and you can do the lottery. Whoo hoo! I am impressed with Capital Newsagents. Rock on guys!

The selection of newspapers and magazines is very good. I've noticed newspapers from all over the world, reflecting the wealth of ethnic backrounds of local customers. There is also a large stand with greeting cards for all occasions. This shop is really a mix of newsagents and corner shop, selling all sorts of convenience foods. The prices are slightly higher than the local supermarkets, but the convenience of buying a pint of milk almost right on your doorstep is worth paying extra for, in my opinion. You can also get you tube/bus passes here. the bus stop is right in front of this shop, so a quick top-up of the Oyster card is more than convenient here.

The owners are often overly agressive and generally unnerving to deal with. I personally avoid Oxford Street at all costs for this reason. Amongst the slew of garbage souvenir shops to be found in London, Destefanis is a gem. Relatively unassuming from the outside (where postcards are on sale for 1Pnd, 50P, and 5P (!!!) ), the shop is filled with reasonably priced trinkets, post cards, knicknacks, sweets, newspapers, and magazines. The shopkeepers are sweet people who are friendly and helpful, and very pleasant to interact with. The next time you need a tiny red bus to bring home to a friend at Christmas, Destefanis is your best bet.

Having re-arranged the tills, the queueing system does work well but I have had to wait several minutes at peak times. Certain parts of the store can be a little cluttered, although this may be generic to the brand. Book prices are often not as aggressive as Waterstones, and always much more than the supermarkets.
