So, I plop it on the couch and turn on CCTV this afternoon, and bam! There's an informative documentary on Mayan society. CCTV has at least 3 channels on basic cable, including Channel 9... the Be Live channel. When not broadcasting a show, it streams a live video feed of the intersection of Main & Mass Ave. Basically, Be Live is a show that allows any resident of the City of Cambridge to have on-air time; the shows are as crazy as the Central Squareans themselves. To get your own show, you just have to attend an orientation and pay a yearly membership fee of $55. That's pretty awesome. CCTV is absolutely as good as it gets, and it's by far the best public access channel I've ever experienced.

My son has a disorder and is on an IEP; school has always been challenging for him, and at times, his guitar lessons had to take a back seat so he could focus on his academic needs. This summer, he was required to attend summer school due to those challenges. We communicated this to Zumix and asked if he could take a temporary break from lessons. The response we received from Jennifer was disheartening: "We've had to offer your lesson time to one of the many students currently on our waitlist who are eager and ready to jump in." While I understand there is high demand, this response lacked any compassion or effort to find a solution. It sent a clear message: that my child, who has already faced so many obstacles, is easily replaceable. Instead of feeling like part of a community, we felt discarded. There was no flexibility, no outreach, and no sense that they cared about my child's journey or well-being. If your child has a disability or needs some grace and understanding, I would strongly urge you to proceed with caution. This experience was a painful reminder that not all youth organizations are equipped--or willing--to support children with unique needs.

The Weekly Dig used to have at least one article each issue -- several, usually -- that actually *added* something to the world, rather than simply comment on, complained about, or advertised it. But no, actual original content has fallen far down the ladder behind "personality" pieces -- articles in which the real subject is the author him/herself, and the purported topic is just the vehicle for this person to showcase their idea of how funny/annoyed/cool they want you to know they are. In fact it's sort of like this one web site that's popular nowadays, you know the one... Seriously, it goes out of its way to make Stuff at Night look sincere. Is that really worth the trouble?

Having very little experience working in other advertising agencies I can't make a good comparison but from my own experience and what I hear from others, this is a great place to work. The agency has grown from a little over 40 people when I started in 2005 to well over 100 at present. It's gradually losing that 'boutique' feel, but most of management has been here since the early days and they strive to maintain an atmosphere of creative and professional freedom. I'm happy here and I can't imagine a better ad agency to work for in Boston. Plus I get to wear flip flops to work and that is very important to me.

Sad to see a few negative reviews but print advertising did obviously change with the advent of smartphones and search. And GPS turn by turn directions in our pockets made printed maps less relevant. Times change.

If you own a small business and The Map Guys call you to Advertise on their maps, be very very wary! They will accept your payment, cash your check then never print the maps!! They did this in Franklin, MA and claimed the maps would be available in hotels and the Franklin Chamber of Commerce. The Chamber of Commerce has never even heard of them ! The Chamber gets their tourist maps produced by a company in PA. And Maps of Franklin have yet to be produced over a year later! They scammed me due to my own naivety, and I will never get my money back but instead I will make it my mission that I save someone else from falling for it. p.s. I personally use the word scam and not "falling on hard times" because they are STILL continuing to go town-to-town taking people's money and not producing a product and that IS premeditated. It's called Larceny under False pretenses.
