Many months ago I sat at Starbucks and spent several hours researching photographers for my daughter's upcoming Bat Mitzvah. I looked at the list of recommendations from our DJ (Next Exit was on it), went through various Facebook groups, and Googled. I looked at all of the online galleries and read reviews and narrowed the list down to around five with Next Exit being in top three. Then I called the photographers. Within 5 minutes of talking to Cat on the phone I had hired her. How could I not? Next Exit's online gallery is a beautiful mix of portrait and candids (which was very important to me) and Cat is so friendly and enthusiastic. So, I hired Next Exit and fast forward several months they were wonderful to work with for the portrait photos at the synagogue and the party, and fast forward a few weeks to me getting the gallery and the photos they took are stunning. They (Cat and Adi) took beautiful photos of my daughter with the Torah and of our family in the synagogue, and Cat and her assistant (whose name I feel terrible for having forgotten) took stunning party shots, capturing my daughter's personality perfectly. I HIGHLY recommend that you hire Next Exit to shoot your wedding, engagement shoot and any other life event you might have!!! We interviewed or received quotes from over 10-15 photographers. This was probably one of the harder decisions we made during the whole wedding process. There was no question that once we spoke to Adi and Cat that we wanted to hire them, it was a matter of are they worth going slightly over our allotted photography budget. YES times a million. Did I mention we were planning this LA wedding from Chicago? Throughout the process I turned to Cat for guidance. From recommendations on certain vendors to the perfect day of timeline. One wedding coordinator under a bride's dress. Check. Yes, this is the brilliance of Cat and Adi. With light barely lingering, Cat suggested we take care of two things at once. I bustled the bride's dress while she shot a few romantics before the light was gone. I was hidden, and you would never guess I was there. This is how it always is when I work with them. They are a fluid team, doing a dance of accomplishing as much as they can in a short amount of time. Their pictures are always gorgeous! They capture moments you didn't even realize were happening. Because our wedding photos (from another photographer) were a disaster, we wanted to redo them to have Something to frame or put in an album...The reshoot was such an amazing experience: at one point, Cat actually serenaded us (you had to be there). It was less then 2 months before our big day, and we had just started looking for a photographer. We were lucky that Next Exit was actually available on our wedding date, as they are usually booked way in advance. My husband and I were referred to Next Exit through a friend who also used them for their wedding. I researched many other wedding photographers since this was one of our top priorities for our wedding. I have been a fan of Next Exit photography for years and I can't speak highly enough about them. My experience started with them when they shot my sister's wedding. The shots were gorgeous and they got my beautiful sister and her adorable husband featured in the Knot Magazine and on the Knot.com (for 5 years - every spring the pics are reposted!). Our photos looked like they were straight out of a magazine. At least that's what I kept hearing from people. Cat and Adi did an incredible job from the first phone call about potentially working together, to the visit to their studio to review work samples, our engagement session and of course the wedding. My husband has the tendency to loose patience while being photographed. Adi picked up on this and kept the family photo session as short as possible, but then came and got my husband and I during a lull in activities to go take more couple shots. Breaking the photo session up into smaller chunks saved my husband's sanity and ensured we still had all the photos we could hope for. My son never smiles for a camera. We hired Next Exit based on the suggestion of a friend who received beautiful photos. I was reluctant bc my son was so shy but our photographer was very patient and relaxed. He pulled my kid out of his shell and the resulting photos are A+. I loved Next Exit Photography. Adi is beyond words. Amazing person. And you almost wish he was your guest instead of your photographer. Harrison was also one of the nicest human beings you'll ever meet. My step mother summarized our entire family's feelings in her email, which is better than any review I could have put together...so here it is: Dear Adi and Cat, The initial photographs of Tracy and Jon's wedding, which you posted on Facebook, were extraordinary but we (Tracy's father and I, her stepmother) assumed that they were culled as the best of the lot. Nothing -- let me repeat, NOTHING -- prepared us for the massive album of magazine-worthy images, which took me an hour to savor last night and another hour to review (and savor once more) this morning. As I told Tracy, it is quite simply the most beautiful collection of photographs I've ever seen. I felt as if I were watching the longest trailer ever made for a movie about an over-the-top romantic wedding, starring gorgeous A-list actors with a large roster of the most attractive extras to grace a back lot. And at the end, I wanted to buy a ticket to see the movie again! Some years ago, the late Slim Aarons came to our little community in Connecticut to do a photo spread for Town & Country. One woman, whom Aarons kept ignoring, finally asked him why he wasn't putting her in any of the photos, to which he snidely replied, "Madam, I only take pictures of attractive people doing attractive things." Your genius is that, through your lens, everyone is attractive and everyone is doing, not merely attractive, but fascinating things. We expected some beautiful shots of Tracy, Jon and Jon's kids. We expected some lovely, obligatory family photos, and we knew that the Carondelet House would provide a lushly romantic backdrop. But never did we think for a moment that candid photos of the guests would have the richness and allure of an Avedon or Demarchelier image for Vogue! All my husband could keep repeating is, "How do you pick from so many exceptional photographs?" (And he is a guy who used to make the final decision on all the Marlboro cowboy shoots...for what it's worth.) I read both of your bios, and Cat, I'm certain that you were writing for the prospective bride when you said that you pride yourself "on finding that exact moment when you look your best," but you two managed to find the exact moment when 73 guests plus the bridal party looked their best. How on earth did you do that? The composition on so many gave me chills: the juxtaposition of Tracy's delicate beauty and Jon's cool LA style against the architectural details of old brick walls with black shutters and the funky sherbet-colored stucco with crumbling Korea Town curbs or the Abbey Road-esque pictures in the street of Jon, Tracy and the kids (love them all!). Or the many different shots where the chandeliers were in soft focus or a face was softly lit by candlelight or backlit in some beautiful way. And Adi, you give such good direction that even the "posed" pictures looked natural, relaxed and happy, with images emanating with sheer joy and sometimes just sheer fun. You two are the Bottaceillis of portrait photography. Tracy is a beautiful woman, as is her sister Cortney and their mother Kay but how you managed to capture that beauty in, literally, hundreds of photos is astounding. I mean, even Kate Moss must have an off moment every now and then. There is this quality of delicate light around Tracy that reminds me of the great Renaissance Madonnas and the chiaroscuro effect that you employed in some images, particularly upstairs, is hauntingly romantic. I would say that you are wonderful event photographers, except that you turned almost every one of the event shots into intimate portraits that captured the essence of that particular moment. People often say that no one looks at a wedding album more than once but your work is more a compendium of portrait essays than a picture album. I can imagine someone, who doesn't even know the Keim or Ward families, looking at these pictures and being able to imagine themselves at the wedding. My friend has AMAZING photos from her wedding. AMAZING. She's a pretty girl to begin with but as I looked through her wedding album it almost seemed fake (in a good way - like I was looking at a bridal magazine).
