This is a review of Dr Koretoff and the physical therapy practice…read more I visited Koretoff mid 2024 for ongoing shoulder pain. He spent the entire appointment acting like he was late for other things and had too much going on, really didn't seem interested in hearing what I had to say and was so scattered I thought wow maybe he is just having a bad day and is distracted by something. When I went back for a second follow up visit he was even more distracted and uninterested in talking to me. He repeated the same things over and over as though he forgot he had already told me certain things that same day, kept saying he was really busy and made me feel like I was an inconvenience. Based on the first appointment he had referred me to their physical therapy program. This is the key for the practice. It wouldn't exist but for the overpriced PT that is the magic answer for all their patients. Now for the billing. Each THIRTY MINUTE physical therapy appointment is billed at $550 to your insurance. They charge $220 for 15 minutes with a STUDENT physical therapist. $230 for 15 with a licensed PT. I do have a high deductible insurance plan which I am well aware of. This means I owe a larger percentage of whatever the cost is up to my deductible. I have seen other offices and been to PT many times throughout my life and generally expect the total for a PT session to be anywhere from $120-$250 and my portion of the co-insurance to be calculated based on this. In the case of this office, they waited FOUR months until I had completed the recommended course of PT to send me any kind of bill. Strategic, so that I would not know the amount until I had completed my therapy. They have obviously implemented this strategy for a reason. Yes it is my fault for not asking for a bill upfront but never in my life have I seen a supposedly reputable PT practice charge these prices. They received from my insurance over $350 for each one of these $550 thirty minute sessions and STILL want to charge me personally $80 per session. Talk about a RACKET. Wow. When I first received the bill I called immediately with my concerns and very calmly explained the situation and rationale. I was told the office was going to discuss the matter and see what they could do for me. Over the course of the next two months I was not contacted again by SDSM and instead had to reach out to them two MORE times. Each time I was told a different story. At one point the billing office agreed the amount was very high and I was told the actual therapist could agree to a discount and that they were going to discuss this. Again, no follow up just repeated bills in the mail. When I called again to ask the outcome I was told that they can't offer any kind of discount if any portion has been paid by insurance. WTF. I again explained my outrage at the pricing and that I never would have continued and certainly never will go back had I known what they intended to charge. Again, "we will call you back". Each time I made it perfectly clear they were NOT to send this to collections which they agreed. Months went by and I received a bill now almost a year later saying that my account is delinquent and to avoid collections to contact them which I did immediately. After putting me on hold for ten minutes to read the copious notes they have in my file I was told there is nothing they can do except offer a payment plan. Upon supposedly transferring me to the payment plan office she promptly disconnected the line without actually transferring me. I had to call back AGAIN and leave a message. Everyone should be aware that this is their practice. If you are okay with insanely high bills and a practice that takes advantage of insurance (which is why we ALL pay insane premiums) then go ahead and support their business. $550 for a 30 minute PT session. No thanks. And their doctors aren't even good. Needless to say, my shoulder still hurts and now I have a headache and hours of my life lost talking to them about a ridiculous bill. Really wish people wouldn't support a business that takes advantage of insurance and over bills.

I called the office to inquire, and was given one explanation, but when I called back, I was told something completely different. On the third call, I was given a third story. After contacting my insurance company to check a claim #, I learned that I wasn't liable for the bill, as Dr. Valletta's office never submit it. I known the claim # was not a claim # that Dr. Valletta's office gave me which my insurance confirmed. When I asked them for the insurance information they had on file, they never returned my call. I'm also convinced they lost my insurance card during my visit. I even offered to pay the bill at a negotiated lower rate, but they didn't accept my offer or respond in any way. I requested a meeting to resolve the issue, but again, I received no response. In my experience, this office has been dishonest and unethical. I would strongly advise against seeking care here.

I sought treatment at this clinic for severe right knee pain and left feeling completely dismissed…read more My experience was especially disappointing because I had previously worked with another physical therapist years ago who conducted a thorough evaluation and ultimately referred me to a specialist clinic where I was formally fitted for a custom knee brace for my left knee. That level of care helped me understand my condition and provided a path forward. At this clinic, the evaluation consisted primarily of X-rays and having me walk a few steps back and forth. Based on that minimal assessment, I was told they didn't think anything was wrong. Despite clearly explaining that I suffer from significant knee pain and that my symptoms are affecting my daily life, there was no meaningful attempt to identify the cause, discuss treatment options, evaluate my strength or mobility in depth, or provide any plan for managing the pain. What made the experience even more frustrating was that I specifically told them about my previous knee brace and the circumstances that led to it being prescribed. Rather than exploring whether a similar evaluation or referral might be appropriate for my current right knee issues, I was left sitting for roughly 20 minutes before an administrative staff member came in simply to show me knee brace options they happened to have in stock. To add insult to injury, I paid nearly $150 out of pocket after insurance for what amounted to little more than X-rays, a brief walk across the room, and being shown products for sale. I received no meaningful assessment, no treatment plan, no referral, and no support for the severe knee pain that brought me there in the first place. I came looking for professional medical guidance and a thorough physical therapy assessment. Instead, I felt like my concerns were brushed aside and the focus shifted to selling products rather than understanding why I am experiencing significant pain. Patients deserve to be listened to, evaluated carefully, and given clear recommendations. Unfortunately, my experience was a costly waste of time and money.

In January 2011 I suffered an injury that was later diagnosed and confirmed (through an MRI) as a torn labrum. While I wasn't in pain for my day-to-day activities, this injury prevented me from playing baseball. I was told that I needed surgery to repair it. I've always believed that surgery is a LAST resort. So I was determined to exhaust all other options first. Fortunately I met Dr. Lathrop and he provided me with a viable alternative to surgery. I decided to give Dr. Lathrop's treatment a try. I was both very skeptical and hopeful. After a few treatments my skepticism grew because I didn't see much improvement - though Dr. Lathrop was assuring me that the injury was healing. We finally reached the stage where there was significant improvement in my range of motion but I was still experiencing pain when I tried throwing a baseball. Thinking that the treatment had failed (my only criteria for success was that I would get back on the baseball field) I decided to get another MRI and go to an orthopedic surgeon so he could "fix me." To my surprise, the orthopedic surgeon said that he could see no evidence of the initial tear and that the reason I was still feeling pain was because I had "frozen shoulder." He then recommended I do some physical therapy to address this new condition. After a few months of doing the physical therapy, I was able to get back on the baseball field. I even played in a tournament last October and the shoulder responded great. I highly recommend to anyone who is considering surgery to first see Dr. Lathrop. Chances are that you will save a lot of pain, time and money in your rehabilitation. Rick Itzkowich, Entrepreneur and LinkedIn Expert - 2012

It then infiltrated during the procedure and was still left in my arm. This is called NEGLIGENCE. Note that I am a perfectly healthy person who has no risk factors for complications, so this could happen to you as well. Don't be fooled by how nice the nurses are or how well landscaped or pretty the facility is. Dr. Guy, the anesthesiologist, and the staff couldn't be bothered to spend five minutes to remove my painful IV even though that is standard of care. I spoke up about it several times. They still got paid, so who cares, right? My UCSD PCP, Dr. MacFarlane, essentially told me I was a nut job who made up my symptoms ("overly sensitive due to medical trauma") when I went to him in tears two weeks later still in intense pain and with symptoms of nerve compression. I then dropped UCSD Health as my provider due to his disgusting, negligent evaluation of my injury as well as Dr. Copur's failure to follow up or provide any post-op instructions for IV infiltration. I do have medical PTSD from a previous medical error that occurred with my anesthesia when I had surgery for cancer years ago in my 20s. Any procedure with anesthesia is VERY hard for me to do. I had this talk with Drs. Copur and Guy, as well as all nurses who saw me in pre-op. They violated my body and my trust anyway through their sloppy "care," as did Dr. MacFarlane when he weaponized my trauma against me. Which makes it all so much worse. I had to establish care with Scripps to get a proper evaluation. I have now been diagnosed, and have an EMG pending that will evaluate nerve damage. I start physical therapy this week. I hope it helps so my arm will stop hurting and I can regain all my physical strength that's been lost. There is no accountability, ever, for bad medical professionals unless you're dead or lose a limb, so getting my arm rehabbed is my goal.
