I rate Yelp 2*s) We needed to board our lab while visiting the Jackson, Teton, Yellowstone areas and by chance came across Hawks Rest Ranch while searching madly online for a boarding solution better than a "kennel" for our four legged family member. I was really concerned about leaving my girl in a new setting 1000 mi from home and didn't want to worry about her. Julie's place is exactly the boarding situation we were looking for; "in home" living, with fenced acrage, communal living with other large working breed dogs and an owner operator that loves her "care". We couldn't have been more pleased with our "find" unless it was closer to Jackson, but the drive down the Snake R. was beautiful and made up for the milage. (actual location is 1.4 miles due south of where Google Earth locates the address, correct location is 43° 2'54.92"N, 111° 0'15.49"W) (FYI...most likely not a good match for small lap type dogs) Steve in Seattle, WA

When in Wyoming, go horseback riding, right? We decided to do this with Swift Creek Outfitters…read morebecause they didn't require reservations and seemed to be flexible with the start times. The horse "stables" are located several miles down a dirt road off of the main road so be prepared to drive slow and have your GPS map downloaded ahead of time because you will lose signal. We opted for the 2 hour ride which costs $114 if paying by credit card or $100 if paying by cash. The staff help you get onto the horse and provide basic directions on how to start and stop. I was a little worried about this since I've only ridden one other time but luckily the horses are all very well trained and essentially just follow the guide horse on their own. The experience overall was nice, with the path winding through stream beds and through the woods. I would not say that it had awe inspiring views or surroundings though. At the turn around point the guide got off of his horse and took photos of each of the groups with the mountain view in the background which was nice. I will say that the staff didn't feel that friendly. As we were waiting to leave, one of the women stated that she hoped that wouldn't have to get off of her horse to take photos of the guests. Also our guide, while making conversation with one of the guests on our ride mentioned several stories about annoying guests - girls "in their western era" putting on makeup while on the horse and women trying to pick him up. Trust me, I get that tourists can be annoying but this business is quite literally catering to tourists. It didn't make us feel very welcome. Finally, I'm by no means a horse expert, but as some of the other reviewers mentioned, all of the horses are tied up, saddled, in the direct sun, until they are pulled for a ride. It felt confined, with a lack of freedom for the horses.
