Extremely disappointing experience with the radiology department at Nicklaus Children's Hospital. Appointments here feel completely meaningless--if your child is scheduled for 8:00 AM, don't expect to be seen until 9:00 or even later. Chronic delays seem to be the norm, not the exception. It's clear they are either understaffed or poorly managed, as they "never have enough rooms" to handle patients on time. On top of that, the customer service is unacceptable--unhelpful, dismissive, and far from what you would expect at a children's hospital. For the level of care and the cost associated with this hospital, the experience is simply not justified. Families deserve better--especially when it comes to their children's care. read more

We've had only good experiences at Nicklaus Children's Hospital. I feel like Nicklaus and Memorial Hospitals are both top notch hospitals with excellent customer service all around. The staff knows how to take care of everyone. At least this has been our personal experience with both hospitals. My son's endocrinologist, Dr. Diaz is associated with Nicklaus Children's Hospital. We came here the first time for a Growth Stimulation Test several months back. They were very efficient and organized. We parked in the Green Parking Garage which leads you straight to the area on the first floor to check in at the desk. We approached the main check in desk upon entrance from the parking garage elevator. They guide you to Patient Access around the corner for registration and to complete any paperwork. Once that is done, insurance info confirmed, payments processed, they inform you to go to designated area. We went upstairs to the infusion area where the staff was absolutely wonderful in taking care of my son. He got a room and they offered Xbox games for him to play. Apparently, all the rooms on this floor has Xbox games per bed. This was a generous donation to the hospital. What a wonderful gift for the kids. The growth stimulation testing took several hours but my kids was a trooper. The young lady taking care of him was seriously THE BEST. I thought I wrote down her name but alas, I did not. I'm sure they can locate who exactly took care of us with the patient info. Anyway, she was so patient, friendly and kind to my son. What every parent wants to see, especially when you're in a hospital environment and kids may be nervous as is. We came back again recently to get an MRI, as requested by the specialist. Same check in process except our appt was later in the afternoon at 6:30pm and it was so quiet and peaceful here during this time. Not chaotic at all. Like nobody here. The young lady who helped us register was very nice, even offered my son stickers when we were done. Then we went to the radiology dept where a nice man helped us prep for the MRI. Eventually, another young man who was the MRI technician, Alex, guided us to where they were going to take photos of the brain. Sounds scary and looks a bit intimidating but Alex helped ease any discomfort. He was great making my kid comfortable and very patient. The MRI took about 45 minutes and they have to be very still. I was able to sit in the same room with ear muffs, the MRI process is very loud and again, intimidating. My kid moved a little in the beginning and we thought we would have to come back but he eventually eased up and fell asleep during the process. Ha. Worked out nicely. Alex had left and another gentleman helped us finish up. All in all, they really do take such wonderful care of the families here! Beautiful and super clean hospital. read more

I want to say something negative about the emergency room at the Children's Hospital, about a procedure they did on my grandson twice without sedating him, because he couldn't pee. It was super painful, and the second time they did it, two specialist nurses couldn't get him to urinate. The advice the doctor on duty gave was that the family should learn to do it in case it happened again, that they should do it at home and not take him to the hospital for it. (Two nurses tried the second time and couldn't get the boy to urinate.) They expected one to learn to do it at home. Thank God my grandson was later able to pee on his own and we were able to leave. read more

BILLING DEPT: this review is specifically for the Nicklaus billing department. I requested an itemized receipt with the payments and services so I could submit them to my insurance. I have made 4 phone calls, each 30-40 minutes long, over 2 weeks with this simple request, and I have not had any resolution. Each billing representative told me something different. I asked to speak to the supervisor or escalation team, and nothing! They kept telling me they are working on this.... I highly recommend Dr. Jean Casto and his surgery team. They are very professional as they show respect and care for their patients and families. They answer all your questions in detail. The inscion made on my daughter through her bellybutton is hardly noticeable. The hospital is very clean and sanitized. The lady in the surgery waiting area was a bit rude (the ER Dr was worse). The screen monitors are not updated as they should be (to give you information about the patients' surgery). However, the nurse was courteous enough to where I would receive a phone call informing me of what was going on, and I'm very thankful as those details kept me calm. So thank you to all in Dr Calistos' team who helped my daughter during such a hard time and for keeping me informed prior to, during and after her surgery. You are all a blessing. ER Dr. needs to learn how to treat parents of patients and needs to learn how to look at medical files. We parents go in looking for help! Our kids are sick or in pain. We seek your help to figure out what's wrong and to find a solution. It's your job to do so. If you are told you have a medical history there at your facility, look for it. As humans, "WE" parents are entitled to be tired and not remember what names of medications might be. I mean, let's be honest, most of them are hard to pronounce or just sound alike! So comments like "come on mom, you need to know these things" after being without rest for over 24 hours with a child not feeling well are not what we want or need to hear. Learn to be professional and look at the medical records on your system. Absolutely unacceptable. This is a children's hospital, yet time and time again I am forced to leave without my child ever being seen. During our most recent visit, there was only one other child in the waiting room, and despite that, we were left sitting for over 40 minutes with no care, no communication, and no urgency whatsoever. This occurred at 2:00 a.m. Parents do not bring their children to the hospital in the middle of the night unless it is truly necessary. The complete lack of concern for a sick child is alarming and inexcusable. The staff showed no sense of priority, compassion, or accountability. My sweet baby niece had to be taken here due to an infection. She was transported by ambulance from urgent care here. The nurses and doctors are very kind, patient, and very gentle. They were very honest with all the tests they were going to perform and tried making us as comfortable as possible. For overnight stays they let you order meals through the television, provide pampers and wipes, along with toys for the babies as a distraction. Down stairs they have a cafeteria, vending machines,Starbucks, and a Subway. There is also a theater, play area, and library for the little ones. They truly try to make all comfortable as possible while kids are treated. I appreciated how kind and gentle they were. Adult patients aren't east but I'm sure dealing with children is on a whole other level and they really showed there dedication to really helping and being so patient. read more

The worst day of my life was yesterday! The purpose of our visit was to sedate the child with a mask before a blood draw. However, he had to be pricked five times, and during one attempt, a needle was crooked. Despite this, the staff continued until my daughter intervened. Their handling of the situation was careless and inappropriate for a small child. I was repeatedly asked to leave the hallway and was not allowed to support my daughter and grandson, which was both rude and inhumane. As a result, none of the tests were completed, and we now have to restart the entire process--including referrals and prescriptions--after waiting nearly three months. Additionally, when the child saw they were attempting to insert the IV, he naturally reacted in the way we had been trying to prevent, further complicating the situation. I forgot to mention that my grandchild is a non verbal Autistic person. He's only 6 years old. I do not want to take any of my grandkids to that "Children Hospital" never again! read more

If I could rate this medical provider a zero, I would. They are very deceiving and dishonest in their billing practices and take full advantage of the fact that insurance companies don't care if the charges are correct or not and just pay them. They double charged me for my son's MRI and refused to remove the duplicate charge, even after I sent them a letter from the doctor stating that he only ordered one procedure. They denied all disputes I've submitted and referred me to their multiple debt collectors which continue harassing me even though I ended up settling the debt. It's astonishing how they get away with their deceptive practices of overcharging consumers and continue lying despite the documentation that their charges were wrong. My child was treated at Nicklaus Children's Hospital at the beginning of 2025. I received three separate bills, all of which I paid in full. Despite this I was later told there was an unpaid balance of $18. I have lost count of how many times I have called to resolve this. I even send my bank statement as proof of payment, yet this issue has been "pending" for months with absolutely no resolution. No one has taken ownership of the problem or followed through. Now, unbelievably, I have been sent to collections over $18. I just got off the phone with them again and I was told I now need to have my bank send a photo of the back of the check after already providing proof that the payment cleared. This is beyond unreasonable. Dealing with this billing department has been exhausting, stressful, and completely unacceptable. At this point, I would rather pay the $18 a second time than continue wasting my time and emotional energy on their incompetence. No family should have to go through this, and I am certain I am not the only one. Because of this experience, I will never return to Nicklaus Children's Hospital. If my children ever need care again, I will go to Joe DiMaggio Children's Hospital instead. My daughter took my granddaughter there at a month old and she was very sick with RSV and more. She was very sick and they should have admitted her. She waited a very long time for the staff to come in to look at her and when they did, they didn't even ask to take her out of her car seat and look at her. Taking your child to the ER is never a pleasant experience, but I am so thankful to the Nicklaus Children's team for making my first ER experience with my baby smooth and comforting. I had to take my 6 week old baby boy to the ER because of blood in his stool. When my husband and I walked into a PACKED ER, I immediately turned around to leave. It was overwhelming and I felt like I would be waiting for hours. In that moment, Luis O'Neil stopped us and asked us to reconsider and sign in. He was very kind and walked us back to register my son after I heeded his warning and decided it was best to stay instead of trying another hospital. He gave me a water bottle and found a quiet place for us to wait away from the sick older children. I was amazed at how quickly families were called in and how the waiting room emptied. They have a great system to get everyone in as quickly as possible. It appeared to be so packed when we first arrived, but shortly after that wasn't the case. I told my husband that it felt like we were at Chili's when they were calling the names. "Jones, party of 6!" I joked. After we got our room, Luis continued to go above and beyond and check in with us to see if we needed anything. The doctors and nurses were so nice as well! I felt so reassured when they did an ultrasound on his tummy and took a stool sample, knowing we would have answers soon. Two days later we received the stool sample results and we had to go back in to the hospital for treatment and a blood culture. This second time, Luis recognized me again and advised me that the hospital was fuller than last time and that they were doing everything they could to speed up the process. I had a smaller room this time with no window to see out, but it was fine. Despite a packed hospital with sick and crying children, the nurse staff and doctors remained so calm and sweet to my son and I. I was in awe of them, remaining so cool and collective during all the chaos that surrounds them. Our nurse Lianet was a sweetheart. The other two nurses that assisted her were so knowledgeable, and they all adored my son. It was nice to see him cooing and staring at them; right before they had to jab him for his blood samples and IV! I will forever be appreciative of the team at Nicklaus Children's for making the best out of a scary and worrisome experience, particularly Luis for stopping us and asking us to reconsider and stay. I don't know what situation we would be in today if it wasn't for his kindness and willingness to go above and beyond. read more

This review is for the Pediatric Gastroenterology Associates office at Nicklaus Children's Hospital. Dr. Pichardo and Dr. Muinos are exceptional doctors. They are patient, knowledgeable, and take the time to ensure you understand your child's gastrointestinal issues. Their recommendations are always helpful and well-informed. However, the reason for the few stars on this review is the extremely long wait times at this office. On my first visit, I waited three hours before being seen. Despite having a great experience with the doctors, my second visit, scheduled as the first appointment in the morning, still resulted in a 2.5-hour wait. During my third visit for a test with another doctor, I waited over 1.5 hours. Considering the office is already an hour from my house, these wait times are unmanageable. Additionally, the office staff is unresponsive. Questions are often ignored, and you need to ensure you get your doctor's note and have your prescription sent to the correct pharmacy before leaving, as calling the office is futile--the phone rings endlessly without an answer. If someone does pick up, they are often rude and may hang up. I dislike leaving negative reviews, especially when the doctors are so great, but this situation needs improvement. If the doctors arrive later, appointments should be scheduled accordingly. The current wait times are unacceptable. read more

They did the bare minimum while reviewing my child's health. My daughter was taken in with high recurring fever, and swollen lymph nodes, but they said bloodwork would not help in diagnosis. Her fever continued and we took her to get blood work done with her primary doctor. The next day where then sent to a specialist because her results where abnormal. The results suspected possible leukemia and anemia! We where basically charged $300 to waste a whole day with our sick child in a hospital vomiting and with high fever, with out any testing, and where just told to continue giving her children's Tylenol and prescribed an antibiotic. And told us to come back if the fever persisted. It seems like this hospital was more interested in the collection than the child's health. read more

We are in this hospital for the 3er time with my child. First day they prescribed an antibiotic that does not hit the streptococcus that he has. After the second day that he could swallow the medication because he was vomiting already for a week. I came to the emergency room and after waiting for 2 hours they tell me they do not have the infection my son needs. The doctor said to me, I don't know what to do. Really???? I ask her, what is the procedure in that case? She tells me to prescribe another antibiotic by mouth. How????? If he vomit everything we have tried to give him except water. After another doctor came they finally decide to inject him with rocephin. There dosis. We were 4 hours waiting for an injection. So we came back today for the second dosis and have been 2 and half hours for it. With a child sick. This is an abuse. It is midnight. I hope I do not have to come back here again. read more

This is a well-run children's hospital. I was very pleasantly surprised by our experience here. Most hospitals are not very efficient. Nicklaus Children's Hospital is well-run and organized. Signs are well-labelled. There is plenty of parking. They have a clear plan for dealing with the coronavirus epidemic affecting Miami. They limited the entrances. When you enter, you get your temperature checked. Surgical masks are offered to those who do not bring their own. The staff all seems to be wearing their masks appropriately. They have same day and next day COVID testing for people with elective procedures scheduled. The nurses are some of the kindest I have encountered. Same with the doctors. I've been unfortunate in that I've dealt with a lot of hospitals for family, but this was one of my better experiences as a relative of a hospitalized person. read more

I recently visited Nicklaus Children's Hospital when a friend of mine had her son admitted to the hospital. It had been many years since I had been to this hospital. I was simply amazed at how beautiful the new wing to the hospital is. The esthetics are stunning, every single detail well thought of and very appealing to both children and adults alike. The small cafes located on the first floor were very convenient and well stocked for a quick snack. I purchased coffee, yogurt and fruit for my friend, and all items seemed very fresh. The only huge minus for this hospital is their cafeteria. This cafeteria is outdated, with very limited selection of food. I ordered a grilled cheese with fries and both items were horrible. I will not be visiting this cafeteria again unless I see that it has been updated in all respects. Next time, I will stick to the small cafes if I get hungry. read more

I live in Homestead and my son has Covid-19 so of course I drove him to Miami Children's. Thinking you would get the proper treatment. After arriving and getting checked in at 4 am we waited for over an hour and a half when I notice not a single person in the waiting room has been called yet. I went to the front desk to ask how long will it to be called. The response was no time can be given and they are busy. After more time passed and we are in the waiting room I asked if they will be a triage nurse to check his vitals because he seems to have a fever and may need something to reduce it. Her response again was I don't know. Of course I got upset since it's been now 2 hours and no one has even checked the vitals and if I am saying he may have a fever how long will we be waiting before he can even get meds to reduce the fever. Completely unacceptable. I left the hospital with my son and went to Bapitist Hospital on 88st and 87 Ave. Within 5 minutes he was traiged and placed in a room. Doctor came to see him and we were out of the hospital with and hour and a half. By the time they were discharging u here they called me from Miami Children's to see where we were. I told they lady what happened and insisted they improve. That babies are in the waiting room without even being triaged for hours. Her response was well your son is not a baby he is 13.
