hmmmm. i didn't have a great experience here. it is SO hard to find a good hairdresser and this…read morejust makes me more panicked about finding someone decent. i went here because they were close to my house and they use goldwell dye. i wanted blonde foils into ombre pink. so blonde, pale pink to hot pink. i had a consult a couple of weeks before the actual appointment and it went really well, i felt like the hairdresser understood what i wanted. so i turn up for the appointment, and the hairdresser is there but i'm directed to a different hairdresser. this hairdresser goes through what i want again, and i'm okay with that. then someone else starts my blonde foils. then someone else starts the colour underneath. then another person does the pink, with instruction from the second hairdresser. i start to get really nervous. plus, i'm watching the original hairdresser i did the consultation with do the hair of walk ins. hello? if i book an appointment with YOU, i'd like you to do my hair. is that so much to ask?! goldwell dye... well, for me, it's hard to go wrong. i'm generally pleased with the colour. but that's the dye, not the hairdressing job. ombre is usually done by teasing the hair and then painting the colour on. they didn't do this, and the girl looked quite nervous throughout painting pink onto my hair. so the colour was not really close to ombre, it was more like a straight line. FAIL. they also used blonding cream on my ends. not sure if my ends are just totally damaged or what, but a lot of my hair started to break off. this has NEVER happened to me before. sigh... it also cost $280. and i had no balls to complain! so i'm doing it on the internet!

They are always friendly, the ambience and coffee is great. They usually do a good job on the colour, yesterday being exceptionally good, but I consistently have to ask them to cut shorter after the first cut and for more texture, more jagged bits. I suspect they think I'm very conservative so I always end up with a slightly staid yet practical style. Only twice did I get something more creative, but I really had to impress upon it. I do love the staff but I can't afford $25 per week on hair (10 week between cuts).

However, the girls here do awesome beauty treatments, cosmetics and hair styles. My sister and I went here a while back to treat ourselves to a little R & R whilst the boys took over kid duties for a couple of hours. It was great here! The girls were friendly and it was a relaxing atmosphere, when we talked we talked, but it wasn't forced and there were comfortable silences. My sister had her hair curled and make-up done, she looked sensational!! I got a mani and gel nails, facial and make-up. It was a really fun alternative to going to an expensive day spa or getting a silent massage. It was more relaxing than a shopping trip, it was pure, unadulterated girly fun!! The stylists were lovely, and the end results were great.

As far as haircuts go, it was more than I usually pay, but much less than some people I know pay. Now, the eye brow wax was possibly the best I have ever had. I'm not sure what type of wax they used, but it didn't hurt. Not at all. I'm used to building up what the pain is going to be like in my head before hand, and then thinking 'Well that wasn't as bad as I thought.' But this time, no pain, and only the smallest amount of redness (I usually look like a stop sign after a wax). Don't go out of your way for a haircut, but definitely for a wax.

Walked into this place for the first time about six weeks ago on a self dare to actually leave the house. Ended up in High on Hair & beauty. Warwick introduced himself and looked after me. He spent a good 30-40minutes of his time going through styles and cuts from fashion mags just so he could understand what I wanted, and visa-versa, to see whether my type of hair could work with the styles and colour I originally had in mind, and with what would suit the contours of my face. All the while his focus was primarily on me, which meant he wasn't being pushed and pulled over to other clients at the same time as he was taking care of me. And that time he gave me during the initial "interview" wasn't even booked. I simply went in for advice with a view to making an appointment if it felt right, and it did. He booked me in for the following week, and we ended up morphing bits and pieces from two styles that I liked; one would've suited my hair perfectly, and the other suited my curls perfectly. Now, instead of dull, lifeless, colourless hair that I used to chop off via a ponytail every six months or so at home, Warwick gave me exactly what I had in mind but was unable to properly articulate. He was patient, friendly, honest, easy to talk to, educational, and the end result was such a miraculous transformation that even my own son did not recognize his own mother when next he saw me. Warwick gave me a cut that softened and defined my natural curls, took at least 10 years off my haggard, traumatised old face, but gave the cut and colour a modern kind of beachy look, neatly windblown, and beautifully sun-kissed with the colours and toners he used. Six weeks later.... and I was back again today for a touch-up of my roots and a trim, and I have to say it's 2 for 2, fellas. Even the neck basins were comfortable to lay back into, and this comes from someone who suffers major spinal issues and some serious Fibromyalgia. Love the atmosphere, as it makes nervous, anxious people like me feel much more at ease. Everyone is casual and friendly, but highly professional and they know what they're doing. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend you to all my friends, providing they don't knock me out of my now regular spot on the salon chair. When you find a decent hair stylist, you have to keep him or her if at all possible. Warwick is mine baby yeah! Tote's quiche (coming from a 45 yr old). Ha! Great salon. Great staff. Prices are pretty high, but you get what you pay for drearies. You want quality? You'll get quality here, but you must inevitably pay for quality. Bottom line. Hey! - I have to subsist on a Disability Pension with a 17yr old kid to support, so if I can manage it, surely you can too. These Guys know hair…read more.. I have not had a hairdresser in some time that has not only done wonders to my hair, but 4 other people I have sent there. I have had my hair done by several different people there and everyone has done such a great job. They have great customer service. You are greeted at the door with a smile and you are shown to a seat offered coffee, tea of water. You will be asked about your hair if you are a new client and they will ensure they get information out of you that you would probably would not have ever had to give a hairdresser before as they just have never cared as much as the staff at Ornate do. the customer service is fantastic all the staff are always happy and so will you be when you walk out with you new style.

The "hair trim" lasted 45 minutes...now I suppose I should be happy as some might think the hairdresser took a lot of care with my hair and took his time trimming it, but in reality it felt like an amateur who didn't know how to cut and was trying to "fix" as he trimmed. My fringe took forever and he kept going back and forth and back and forth...and back and forth and then back again..then forward..then back (you get the idea?) I walked out with a full fledged "hair cut" where I had a fringe, layers, shorter length hair...again I wouldn't have minded had I asked for a hair cut, but my expectation was to just go in, trim the split ends, trim my fringe which had grown to just below my eyes and walk out... I suppose my instructions just got lost in translation.
