It's a smart looking place, usually frequented by all the solicitors etc in the area but there were a couple of children in there when I went in. I believe all the hairdressers in there are independent, as they seem to have their own separate appointment books, separate client lists and use their mobiles to book appointments as well as the salon number. Now, my hair is (possibly world) renowned for being difficult. Anytime I present it to a new hairdresser, they are genuinely shocked at how thick it is! Bearing this in mind, you can imagine I find it incredibly difficult to get a decent hair cut. My experience at 4 Park Square was ok, however the cut I emerged with was not the cut I went in for. I didn't want to have my hair washed (just another one of my strange hang-ups) and had therefore washed it just before I went to my appointment. As I was also due at work, I thought this would save a bit of time. However, they insisted on washing it, which didn't get the experience off to a great start. The cut itself seems pretty good, I had a fair bit of length off but it still feels like it needs more cut out of it to make it thinner. I stated that I didn't want the top layers cutting any shorter than they were, however these have had quite a bit cut off - meaning my penchant for vintage hair styling is going to have to take a break until it grows back! She also refused to cut more length off the back (which is what I asked for - a sort of long graduted bob which I have had previously), but did say I could go back in within a few days if I wasn't happy with it. It looked nice, however having stated I didn't want to have to spend half an hour of my morning straightening it, the hairdresser proceeded to get the large GHD's out and spent a good 20mins straightening it after cutting the length off. I discovered this morning that there is no way on earth I can leave the house without straightening it, as the cut does NOT look good otherwise. I was told I would be able to wear it more textured however this isn't going to be a possibility! My only other complaint would be how sore my scalp has been since, through a combination of repeated rough brushing and pulling when cutting, I think mainly because it is so thick and takes a bit of effort - but I've not really had this problem after getting my hair cut elsewhere. All in all I'd say OK - but I'm not sure I'd go back. EDIT - having lived with this hair for a few days I decided I'd been too nice with 3 stars, 2 it is!

It's so good in fact, that they don't do walk-ins, its appointment only. If you haven't called up and got an appointment before 11, chances are they'll already be full for the day. They offer a 30% discount for getting a haircut before noon, which is probably because it's situated in a predominantly student area and students are normally still drunk before this, but if you visit after 12 it's still good value. I was visiting Leeds for work recently and booked an appointment, gave my name and went in at 12.30 for my trim. I was pleased to see it hadn't changed in the 4 years I'd been away, and the two guys I remember from my student days; Cabs and Jules recognised me which made me feel like I'd been a valued customer. The shop was full of banter, jokes and hip hop music, but don't let that fool you, they are serious about cutting hair, and they do it well!

Staff were pleasant, shop was tidy and fairly busy which I took as a good sign. When it came to getting my hair cut however the hairdresser seemed vacant and distant, more interested in other things and conversing with customers who were waiting while she chopped away. Although a little bemused by this I thought nothing of it, this is her job after all, she knows knows what she's doing. As it turns out I couldn't be more wrong! Towards the end of proceedings a small electric clipper was produced seemingly to tidy up a few things. While this was being used my left sideburns was shaved to above the ear at an upward pointing angle. The hairdresser then said something to the effect of "is that ok for you" while reaching for the mirror to show me the rear of my head and indicating the job was done, I had to ask her to do the other side of my head to match (a good inch and a half to two inches in difference!). This is not what I wanted but if one side is going to look ridiculous then they need to match! The full extent of the damage wasn't realised until the full light of next day when I realised she'd also shaved off part of my widows peak on one side of my head... All in all, a terrible experience, I look ridiculous, most definitely couldn't recommend to anybody else and wouldn't return.

The young ladies who do the cutting will give a customer a special haircut if required, and children get a lollipop after their trim. There is no appointments system. Customers wait their turn, as in my younger days (I am 72 years old), which suits me fine. A pensioner's trim costs £5.50 (and eyebrow trims are free!). Car parking: park on street or in Britannia car park (free), just across the bridge. I like this barber shop.

The only thing which lets this place down is the service. I didn't really feel looked after during my visit (no-one acknowledged me when I entered for example).

While its a large, bright, and trendy salon, it DOES NOT come with the air of pretenciousness that many trendy salons have. The atmosphere is fun, friendly, and its always a pleasure to spend a few hours there getting pampered! The staff always remember clients and conversation is always fun! A half leg only costs £9.50 and the most you will pay for a bikini wax is £18. There are plenty of other therapies that I haven't tried yet such as a Swedish body massage, tanning treatments and a few facial treatments that I am not familiar with like the 'bio-ultimate platinum non-surgical' facial.
