Jennifer and her partner Brian not only took the most gorgeous true-to who-we-are photos, but connected with us and so many of our family through their camera lenses. They were so much more than that too... From the beginning, Jennifer was perfectly balanced in her approach with us being professional and attentive yet having a calming, relaxed presence that soothed our nerves when we first took our engagement photos. She really let Chris and I do "US" - only slightly guiding us in our positions to capture the scenery just right or flatter our best features. We knew we had struck GOLD with Jennifer just by the memories made, the fun times, and the overall fantastic experience of the day! When the sneak peaks came out in a few days we felt like me had WON the photography lottery with the stunning pictures she presented us. It was such a relief not having to worry - as far as photography goes - on our wedding day. We had no doubt Jennifer would take care of us and our memories. If it could not get any better, Brian, Jen's photography partner, was a delightful addition to her package and made Chris feel at ease when taking pictures of the groomsmen. The two of them together were a peaceful yet powerful force to be reckoned with, with photos covering the entirety of the day including those special moments that you didn't think were caught on camera - that small tear of joy from a loved one or that goofy face when sneaking a sip of fireball - every moment was perfectly captured. I could go on and on about Jennifer Picard Photography but I will close by saying the photos say it all. Chris and I have the most treasured group of photos of a day we will never forget. Missing our Indian treats from Toronto, we were pleasantly surprised when we saw the sign for Island Video/Grocery. Well, after visiting the store once, we have no interest to ever go back. We visited the store on a Sunday afternoon. When we entered the store, noone was in the store-front. After waiting for about 3 minutes, the shop clerk, an older gentleman, sauntered in from the staff backroom. He was unfriendly and unwelcoming. He did not greet us or smile. His stern expressions when he looked at us (which was only a couple times) gave both my wife and I the distinct impression he did not want our business. We ordered 3 samosas and weren't offered the little containers of tamarind chutney that were in clear view. After paying $3.00 and leaving the store, we checked the brown bag and noticed only 2 samosas. When we went back to tell the shop clerk, he said that we only ordered two. We paid for the $1.50 for the extra samosa, again without being offered the chutney, and left, vowing never to return. The samosas were decent enough, but we don't need to go through that type of experience again for samosas or buying Indian groceries. We have since heard about other stores in Victoria that offer indian groceries and ready-made snacks. We're excited to give those a try. What is disheartening about this whole situation is that across the street there is a Walmart that sells everything that Island Video/Grocery sells except for the videos and ready-made samosas. My wife and I are strong believers in supporting local small business to survice as much as possible, but, we support local business that not only want our business but also earn our business partly through pleasant interactions. Interestingly, this was the first shopping experience we have had since moving to Victoria that was outrightly uncomfortable and unfriendly. We are sure there are stores with similar offerings but actually want our business.

But then we came across Denis and Splendent Films, and instantly noticed a difference. His videos tell a story in an artistic, natural, and nostalgic way - somehow managing to capture all the wedding day highlights without being a drawn out documentary. Denis doesn't film a lot of weddings each year, and the time and energy he puts into tailoring each film to the couple definitely shows. He is extremely professional, personable and humble yet will exceed your expectations in every way. We got married in April 2022 and elected to have the 1 minute next day teaser film (highly recommended! incredible that he could put it together in under 24 hr), 10 minute wedding highlights film, ceremony edit, and motion book. Denis added gorgeous drone shots for no additional cost (all other videographers we found charged more for this) and he captured all the details, speeches, and highlights of the day in a stunning light - almost better than we remembered the day! The videos are invaluable and we will cherish them for decades to come. Choosing Denis and Splendent Films for our wedding was one of the best decisions we made. In fact, I recommended him to my maid or honor / twin sister who has chosen him for her upcoming wedding as well!
