Schweitzerhof is located right next to the train station in Engelberg, which makes it a very convenient destination for tourists. Across the street from it there are couple of bars and restaurants, as well as a Mammut sports and rental centre. The rooms are spacious, clean and very nice. The bathroom was also big and quite modern. The staff at the reception was polite and helpful: in the last day they let us use their lobby for many hours (we were a large group, so we were literally taking up all the space in their lobby) and even served us some fruits. Very important to mention is that the food we had at their restaurant was great: not only very tasty, but also attractively arranged on the plate. And they have a separate Cheese room, where they only serve fondue and raclette in a traditional atmosphere. You cannot leave Engelberg without having the traditional fondue pot and that's one of the nicest and well priced places to have it! For the hotel however, be prepared to empty your pockets, as you can easily spend around 200 chf/night. But it's worth pampering / being pampered every once in a while, isn't it? :)

The buffet breakfast at the pavilion was above average, with a nice selection of local meats, cheeses, fresh juices, homemade breads and even sparkling wine. I can't speak to other meals at the hotel since we dined out for other meals and only spent two days there. Our primary complaint was that the room wasn't available for the early checkin, despite pre-requesting same through virtuoso. When we planned our trip we were unaware that we would be visiting during carnal all, and nothing could have prepared us for the craziness! It was like Mardi Gras on speed, with insane costumes and people of all ages singing, dancing, playing music, eating and drinking in the streets. There as even a party on Saturday night in the lobby, lobby bar, and ballroom of the hotel that went until 4 am. What a blast!!

This hotel was booked through Viking Cruises for the end of our river cruise. It is a beautiful hotel with really good customer service. The morning breakfast was included with our package, and it was very good. Besides the price the other complaint that I had was that the stand-alone shower was smaller than the one on our cruise ship.

She gave us some recommendations and everything we ordered was on point. The drunken chicken, naughty chicken sandwich and truffle fries were so good. Reservations and arriving: Made via message online or a call; we did so as part of our stay at the Hermitage. When checking in, the front desk was very gracious noticing that we had an upcoming reservation and called ahead letting the restaurant know that we are running a little bit late due to the check-in process. Rooms: We were personally shown to our rooms, and we really appreciated the walk-through. There are lounge areas including the bar area behind the front desk, and some quiet lounge chairs outside overlooking the lake, and inside with a pool table and additional seating. Clear warnings of possible mosquitos so we definitely appreciated the heads up before opening the windows in the evening! Stunning views of Lake Lucerne with generously sized rooms, and effort to be eco-friendly, and kind service. Food: Brunch was buffet style with plenty of seating and lots of variety. Loved the natural or firmer honey choices, bread choices, fruit, chia pudding, yogurt, boiled eggs, sausages, drinks, etc available all with lakeside covered seating options. Took one star off for a dinner experience with the associated restaurant Hermitage. Amenities: Spa area includes changing rooms and sauna rooms, no hot bath area or pool so this is for relaxation and also some private rooms are available. **BEWARE** DO NOT STAY HERE! TERRIBLE! This hotel misled me and is now refusing to refund two…read morenights I didn't stay. I've had to dispute the charge with my credit card company. I called the day before check-in due to a family emergency and spoke with Ladina. She told me I could either cancel the reservation entirely or move it out a week with no penalty. I chose to move it. About 30 minutes later, plans changed again and I called back to reinstate the original reservation, letting the staff member (Eloise) know we may only need one night. I asked whether I should change it to a one-night stay then to avoid being charged, and she said, "No problem, just let us know at check-in." I followed that guidance in good faith. When I arrived, I told the front desk we'd only be staying one night. I checked out less than 12 hours later -- and was charged for all three nights. Eloise, who wasn't working that day, now denies what she said. The General Manager, Lars Güggi, refuses to refund the unused nights, despite admitting there may have been a misunderstanding. Either I was told incorrect information and they won't admit it, or Eloise didn't understand my question and gave a bad answer. Either way, I acted responsibly and am being penalized. To make matters worse, I booked a Junior Suite for myself and my two kids, and they charged me extra just to make up the pull-out couch -- in a suite designed for more than two people. Completely unreasonable. This was a bait and switch. No accountability, no integrity, and no regard for guest experience. Do not stay here. Get every promise in writing, or expect to get charged no matter what they tell you.
