I won't lie, this place gets five stars from me for being open when they say they'll be open. I had an evening planned for checking out some pinball bars (reviewed separately), Hotel Delmano, and Night of Joy. I tried to stop my Hotel Delmano first, as they were supposed to close at 1 AM on a Sunday (on Google and their own website). But they closed over two hours early. So this is where I ended up. This is sold as a bar with grandma decor, which is sort of accurate. It has a few shabby couches and old-timey lamp fixtures. I can see this being a Miss Havisham kinda place. Service is effective and matter of fact; don't expect to be fawned upon. Again, I went late on a Sunday evening, so it wasn't crowded (I could count the number of people on one hand at any given time). So the bartender was hanging with her friends and chatting. I'm ok with this. I got my drinks in a timely manner and wasn't bothered by a crowd. Let the woman chill with her pals. And neither she nor her friends were pretentious. Total win there. Music was a little loud for how few of us were there, but a cool indie selection. The menu is small, but offers some nice, simple flavor profiles. I had the basil lime vodka, lavender grapefruit gin, and hibiscus cinnamon mezcal. They also have some drinks with jalapeño and black currant flavors, an orange blossom lemonade, a rosemary ginger bourbon, and more. Would I go out of my way to come here? No. But if you're in this part of Williamsburg and want a low key hangout without a lot of fuss (on a weeknight at least), this is a pretty good bet. Oh, and during the warmer months they have a rooftop bar. Seems to be pretty cool. I imagine this is a big crowd draw once the thermometer hits 70. read more

Came in here to meet up with 10-15 friends and it's pretty dimly lit. I was really glad there was an upstairs rooftop option but it was a hot enough day in July that we enjoyed being indoors. Love the cocktail and drink options, frozen margaritas and spiked lemonade drinks with special syrups totally hit the spot. The bar keep would keep removing our table set up so that we had to squish ourselves into a corner. The bartenders kind of selected who'd they answer first which was a little disappointing for Williamsburg. It's a hip spot just some rules I suppose. I've always heard about Night of Joy but never actually came in until yesterday (a Thursday night). There was a bouncer at the door checking IDs, who was super nice, and upon entering, the bartender immediately acknowledged us and took our order with no wait at all. We decided to try two frozen margaritas (one pomegranate and one lime - my go to for the warmer months) and headed to the roof. The roof was much more lively than the door stairs area, but both had their perks. Kinda nice to have two options all in the same bar. My margarita was perfect, exactly what you want without it being too fancy. My only complaint was the paper straw. I know this is environmentally friendly but it is not frozen marg friendly. I had to keep biting the straw to get the frozen pieces out. Still, not the bar's fault! We only stuck around for one drink since it was a school night but I definitely am looking forward to spending a bit more time here in the future. The drinks were a little overpriced but good (for context, my frozen margarita was $16). I appreciated that the music wasn't so loud that you couldn't hear the people around you. Be warned their "cocktails" are basically shots over ice. All ice, tiny cups, $12 each. Ambience is lackluster. Rather than including a small tasting menu, they include a small, untoasted bagel with a minuscule schmear of cream cheese which pairs perfectly with their subpar drinks. A night of joy turned into a night of disappointment filled with the bleak darkness of regret. Edit: They charge you $4 per trash bagel and you need to have 1 per drink for the first round. Came here for happy hour - upon first coming into the bar an awful dingy scent filled my nose . The place itself is cute but I immediately had to run to the rooftop. The rooftop is cash only and offers only certain drink options - for full bar you'll need to go downstairs . The rooftop is cute - not much of a view but aesthetically pleasing . Drinks were fine - they're fancy cocktails that taste nothing like alcohol because there's probably none in there so I switched to beer. , I'm not from NY but I imagine 7$ for a cocktail during happy hour is a steal. read more

Fabulously hipster with super awesome herb/floral theme in the interior. This was one of our stops during a Brooklyn bar crawl. It's a pretty great dive bar wth floral/herb theme to their menu. Most every drink incorporates some kind of herb or floral accent. It makes it hard to tell if you're drinking alcohol or not ;) The inside is very dark, with vintage couches, a vintage-looking fire place and then vines along the ceiling with floral garland, etc. This is definitely a bar for a younger crowd since we felt like oldies in it, but the drinks were good. It was kind of loud in there though, so we couldn't really talk to each other. read more

I have never not liked this place. Low lights. Carpeted floors & walls. Velvety cushions. Warmth. The patio is under the BQE. It's not Westlight, but for $11 cocktails that have never disappointed me, I will keep coming back. Pro tip: bring a flashlight or a miner hat to the bathroom. Otherwise you're going to sprinkle when you tinkle. You won't even be able to be neat and wipe your seat because it's too dark to find the toilet paper. Night of Joy is a cozy bar that's dimly lit and features an interesting decor full of antique looking furniture and lace curtains. Their downstairs area has a good amount of seating to hang out with a group or you can go chill by the bar and grab yourself a drink! Their menu featured a good amount of cocktails, but I mainly stuck with beer. They had a few on tap including a pretty good sour gose, which made me happy. The coolest part of the bar to me is the upstairs roof area. It's pretty spacious but feels up quickly. There's also a bar up there, but when we went it was cash only, so not exactly convenient when you want to use a credit card. Had a fun time here, but probably won't go out of my way to come back unless I happen to be in the area. In general I'd recommend it to others though! read more

This place is kind of...sucks. It's a shame because the interior of the space is super cool and like you're in someones funky living room. The rooftop is also pretty cool. There's always space for your group of friends and it's in a convenient location, which is why I probably end up here a lot despite everything else. However - there is a lot wrong with this spot. The drinks are super inconsistent. Some are incredibly boozy at one point, and then sometimes not at all. The bartenders are just straight rude. It took me like 20 minutes to get a drink because I kept getting ignored. And I'm used to this treatment in general, being a woman I usually get disrespected by female bartenders and objectified by others so, ok, fine, but still not cool either way. They don't really follow the whole 'first come, first served' thing here, even if you're as friendly as possible. Overall, not into it. Do better. read more

I would like to say Night of Joy is kind of out the way but not really. It is a place I had been hearing about for a while now. I happened to come here a few weeks ago, New Years Eve in fact. In Williamsburg and was looking for something sort of low key but crowded enough on NYE that I would still have fun. Fun was just right here, It was a good no cover experience compared to the $85 or $100 I would have spent somewhere else. Rooftop was closed the night me and my boy ended up here. You know had been looking forward to checking it out. Drinks at the front were actually strong, two bartenders slinging as best they could. It was $7 Vodka soda featured, not sure if all drinks were same price but Reyka Vodka was the drink. I didn't hate it, of course it was no Kettel One either. Vodka was strong or at least just a good pour. The DJ's were on point too. DJ DEE DEE from the Dum Dum Girls made an appearance and so did Brandon from Flowers of Evil. Drinks were strong enough for me to return and I did enjoy seeing the other teams of Wingmen that night I guess trying to get lucky and you can't....teach......That. There was plenty of chances, so it was go time and I had my wing man with me, how you doin? Crowded yes but not enough to spill those drinks, plenty of CHANCES when it hit that 8 to 10 mins to midnight feeling that went down. Freehold was nice spot to see earlier but glad I came here. Wish I saw the rooftop was whatever, I would come back and I really hope my drinks would be as strong as they served at 11:35 or whatever on December 31st, 2015. Looking at the outside, and the corner that this bar sits on, you'd never know that inside the door on the corner was a bar like this. But isn't that what makes the best places? Stepping inside, Night of Joy has an instantly comforting feel to it. The atmosphere feels like an old fashioned living room, but instead of one filled with your grandparents, extended family, and a bowl filled with butterscotch... it's filled with friends, a big bar, and real Scotch. Also, a guy in the corner having two pizzas delivered, and the bar staff being totally cool with it. Awesome. I always say. "I'll be back," (and yes, in a Schwarzenegger voice) to a number of bars, but a girl can only drink so much. Some places shoot right to the top of the list, however. This is certainly one of them, I really will be back soon. Especially, because I hear they have an awesome roof top for warmer weather. Really, any rooftop is an awesome one as far as I'm concerned. Anyway, if you've ever been to Hotel Del Mano, which I love, this is like a much bigger, rooftoppier, cheaper and more casual version. They've also got their ceiling painted like the one in Grand Central; just a side note for you fellow Art History nerds out there. So, the drinks: tasty, reasonably priced. They've got a good beer selection and their jalapeño infused tequila beverage is one for the books. What else do you need? I don't know why this place doesn't have better ratings!! One of the best lounges I have ever been to. Came here late at night with a party of 7. I was thoroughly surprised because the inside was so beautiful. They dim the lights a lot at night and there are candles and it sets a nice, chill ,even romantic kind of vintage-y environment. I personally loved it. There are places for you to sit at the bar, or in tables, or sofas. Usually the rooftop is really beautiful, but they had closed it because it was raining. The frozen margaritas are so delicious! My favorite is probably the mango. Lime is probably my least favorite. It was definitely on the pricier side, but definitely worth it because it's so big! read more

Night of Joy may just be my new favorite bar in Williamsburg. The downstairs is this really cool, old-timey bar and lounge, with dim lighting and plenty of seats. Definitely a great location for a first date or a place to kick back with some friends. If you go to the back and upstairs, however, there's a really cute little outdoor patio with lights and plants. I wouldn't go so far as to call it a "rooftop" bar, but it's perfect for soaking up the last bit of sun during happy hour. And speaking of happy hour...Night of Joy does it well. Their signature cocktails with infused alcohol are only $6, whereas I'd expect similar drinks in Manhattan to go for at least $12. Just make sure you really like the flavors of the alcohol, as they're pretty strong. I enjoyed the orange blossom rum, whereas the lavender gin was way too potent and hard to drink. Happy hour ends at 8pm, so make sure to get there early, especially if you want to sit outside- the rooftop/patio fills up fast. read more

This is a unique place. Prepare yourself for a strong incense smell. The happy hour deal is great. 5-8 everyday and $7 cocktails. I had the beet and dill vodka drink for $7. It was unlike anything I've ever had before! It's mostly infused vodka served straight up. Also had the cilantro Bloody Mary. I love cilantro and am so happy to have heard of this concoction! Came here really excited for happy hour, only to be disappointed when the drinks were completely terrible. Unsure if the bartender forgot to add alcohol to my three frozen margaritas or what the situation was but I watched her pour juice, walk in the back to get the slushy ice then come back and hand me my drinks. Unsuspecting I walked back upstairs to the patio with the drinks only to be disappointed when I slurped up nothing but water and juice. Not wanting to be a nuisance, I brought the drinks back down pretty mouth untouched and just ordered a house margarita, which was average. I'm upset to have wasted $21 on three watery juices but the ambiance of the patio helped a little. If anything, I'd recommend just coming here for a smoke and a chat, skip the drinks. read more

Old fashion decor, old school television and lounge couches. Very dark sexy sensual ambiance so it was good for a dAte night. Bathrooms were absolutely disgusting. No toilet paper. Paper all over.
