I don't even know where to start; there are so many great things to say about Jess personally and professionally as a photographer. She has a very likable personality; she is confident and hip. From first impressions she seemed to be someone who could give my family some direction, which was a quality I was looking for in my wedding photographer since I knew my family might need a little help getting together to take some family photos. Jess did an amazing job with our wedding photos! My wife and I also found her through yelp first because of the high quality and also because she fit our budget. We had a small wedding of 20 and it was hard to find a photographer within the price range we were looking for until we found Jess. What we love about her is that she loves what she does. She is enthusiastic, kind, professional and very quick to respond. Jess also made time to do a meet and greet at the wedding location and to go over different areas of interest to shoot the photos. I had the time to get to know Jess, which made me feel more than ready to see what Jess was capable of. At the time of the wedding I can't stress how helpful she was. Jessica came to photograph my family on a day my husband and I were completely overwhelmed with our three little ones and each other! It was too late to cancel though and thank goodness! Not only did she take the most beautiful pictures of our family, she also cheered us up and had us all laughing and happy again! By the end we could not even remember what had felt so difficult that morning. It was a great experience all together. She got the most candid pictures of my 3 and 5 year old sons as they felt so comfortable with her. She also caught my 6 month old baby perfectly... his mood, his look, his bright eyes. I am giving J. McClain a 5 star rating simply because she saved my butt. The story is, I was in charge of the photography for my wedding in Tahoe at Emerald Bay on Sept 13th 2014. Me, being frugal added a photographer to our wedding package. After thinking about the possibilities going wrong. I figured, I better have a back up plan. I hired Jess to be our back up photographer. Jess worked quietly in the back ground. We received the photos from the other photographer the day of. The next day, my bride was in tears. Working to try and fix them just to post a few for family. She gave up. I was in trouble. I quickly got on the phone with Jess. I asked her to please send us a few of her photos. I was saved!!!!! My bride had the biggest smiles and was oh so happy. Jess did such an incredible job shooting our wedding! She was up beat and professional, and relaxed even when I wasn't. Some of the photos she captured were so breathtaking. My husband and I marveled at how she managed to capture as much as she did during the ceremony- we had our venue outdoors and she must have been sprinting up and down to catch what she did. And it's a testament to her skill that I didn't even see her- she was like an invisible goddess of photography, catching brilliant photos while remaining unseen. I would love to work with her again, and I plan to for other photos I will need done. She was very fun to work with, such a cheerful spirit. Jessica has a knack for getting just the right pose and capturing the best moments. Anybody can take a picture, but Jessica truly has an eye for photography and any photo shoot I have done with her, has turned out amazing. They aren't just pictures, they are works of art. I used to think I wasn't photogenic, she changed my mind about that. Jess hardly photoshops her pictures at all, because she gets the shot the first time, not like other photographers who get a mediocre shot and then try to fix it. An excellent photographer can take normal people and make them look like movie stars. Jess made us red carpet A list. She was willing to take the groupings that we wanted and suggested even more. Since it was an outdoor shoot, she chose different spots on the ranch and was very careful to check the lighting. If it wasn't right, we moved on and came back to it later. She had wonderful and creative ideas. She was so personable and patient, especially since we were a group of 16, one of them a 9 month old baby. I would definitely choose her again. Try to book her for the "golden hour", which for us was 6:00 pm in July. Our photos are wonderful and will provide cherished memories of a wonderful family vacation. Jess was absolutely amazing to work with! We are from Philadelphia, but we were having our wedding out in Pilot Hill on my parents ranch. Planning from a distance is always difficult but Jess made the photographer portion a breeze. We started out with having her do our engagement pics as a trial run for our wedding pics. They turned out so amazing that there was no doubt we were going to have her do our wedding as well. I absolutely love how our pics turned out from our family photo shoot with Nightshade Photography. The owner/photographer Jess made our day with her approach to capturing the essence of our family. Jess travelled to our home to do the photo shoot. She followed the kids around the property and took pics of them swinging on swing set, riding trikes, playing with there fav toys and stuffed animals. She made us all feel very comfortable.
