Delicious delicatessens at here. Parking is 1 hour for free. Need to scan bar code and register. Other choices are fresh vegetables and meats.

People often clown on "Place, Japan" sentiments (the soft power cultural diplomacy effect in people's reactions to anything Japan-related) and rightfully so, as other places are just as worthy of such adoration and adulation. I, a worldly and cultured Yelper, know to be equally curious of all cultures. With this preamble out of the way, Nijiya's offering of food products inspired envy in me towards my friends who live close by. I wished I lived closer to this Nijiya, and it almost tempts me to move closer to these friends. Almost. The prepared food items are fantastic (especially after they have been discounted!). I discovered my love of konjac and reaffirmed my love for shiitake and sweet potato from consuming the bento here. I also love picking up the butter mochi, which is always too much for me to eat by myself, but I always insist on consuming anyway. I think the butter mochi would be better to bring to a party to share rather than to greedily consume by myself. Last December, which was the last time I shopped here, I picked up a free 2026 calendar after I checked out. The cashiers here have been consistently friendly, and give me utensils when I buy these bento. I somehow did not get a photo of the bento, but I will the next time I'm in Nijiya.

Was walking by and went in to see if they had sushi. Got a fresh water eel (unagi) futomaki on sale and regular futomaki to go. Cashier was friendly and assisted me in bagging and chopsticks. There are a few tables and chairs to eat. The air conditioner felt good. Not as busy as the Ala Moana Center location.

A great neighborhood market near the University of Hawaii (Manoa)....... After having breakfast next door with my friend - Jennifer C., we decided to go next door to check out Nijiya Market. Located at the Pucks Alley complex, you can find this Japanese/Asian grocery store just next door from Oli's Kitchen. Besides the dry goods that they sell here, this little Japanese supermarket offers a lot of pre-made foods which is convenient for a quick "grab & go". I've come here several times over the years, not so much to shop for dry goods, but mainly to pickup some pre-made food that they sell here. I can see the upside for the students who go to school at the University of Hawaii Lab School, or the kids who are students at the University of Hawaii (Manoa), as this grocery store provides another avenue for the kids to get food. Parking here is easy, as there is a parking lot within the shopping complex. I'm not sure if they validate, but I was told that the first hour parking in the complex is free, afterwards there is a small fee to park in the private parking lot.

    Looks good!

Grocery Shopping in Honolulu, Hawaii... My friend wanted a special kind of Furikake to take back to the mainland. She didn't want the type in a bottle nor the kind in the plastic container. She knew that she could get a flat package (good to pack in a suitcase) at Nijiya Market. At the time, we were near the University of Hawaii at Manoa. I told her that I knew where the free parking was. I didn't want to pay for parking at Puck's Alley. LOL! I found street parking about a block away. While she went to the shelves for the Furikake, I stopped by at the demonstration table. The featured item was a mentaiko mix. Just toss it with some udon noodles and make a simple, tasty entree! Yum! Thanks for the sample! I also looked at the ready-to-go bentos. They all seemed fresh and had great presentation. Too bad we were on our way to lunch. Next time, I'll get a chirashi bowl! I hope it's on sale again!

They offer free one hour parking. Enter on the right hand side just past the actually market. It is a small parking lot behind the store. Tons of ready to eat bentos, sushi, and poke bowls. All made fresh on site. I came to get shabu shabu meat and ingredients and found everything I needed and then some. Grabbed a bunch of snacks and my favorite sparkling sake. Good produce that is very reasonable priced. I got a big of yellow onions for $4. Will be back often!

First time here in Puck's Alley University, they also have one in Ala Moana. Japanese store, all kind of things from Japan. The store is fairly big inside. Brought some wild salmon from Alaska, Japanese ramen bowl made in Japan. One of a kind ceramic. Fun store to walk around and shop, Oh...Remember Yoku Moku candy from Japan.. the old Shirokiya store use to sell it. Please visit this store or Ala Moana. Aloha, Derek

I've been coming to Nijiya for a while now and my father and I both love it! They have a wide selection of things ranging from spices, Bentos, drinks, and so much more! Normally when we come here we get a lot of their Bentos and you can't go wrong with them, every now and they do have specials and sales for their food and I think it's worth it! **The Bento I normally get ~ *Una Jyu (Eel Bowl) 10/10 If you love unagi this is the perfect bento for you! The bento comes with Akita Komachi rice, a side of vegetables, and charcoal-grilled eel. I love how the rice is never dry and the eel is always flavorful. For the price of $12.99, it's not bad because unagi is kind of pricey. Overall, The staff is wonderful, they always greet you when entering and exiting. Also, they do an amazing job keeping the store clean and organized! I will most likely be back here again with my father splurging on Bentos!

Spoke with the gentleman running the counter and he told us to go to the adjacent seafood monger (same company) and pick your fish. They have all kinds to pick from including shrimp, clams and oysters. Some fish are better suited for steaming versus deep frying. For the most part deep fried fish is delicious but most fish deep fried will lose its fresh taste. The monger said the Onaga fish will have a firm texture when steamed. Once you pick the fish they take it back to the kitchen to prepare it. Pricing is based on the fish per pound and then they add on $10-$20 for the preparation. And even after we moved, we would still drive out just to come here for the seafood. That's how special it was to us. The reason why he chose Tamashiro over other grocery stores was simple--it was quality and because of my Nanay (grandma). His mom purchased from here and made so many delicious dishes. He knew what to look for, and he trusted this place. For him, it wasn't just about buying food... it was about getting the best for his family. My dad isn't the type to say "I love you." He shows it. One of the biggest ways he showed love was through his cooking. Even after a long day on his feet cooking for others, he would come home and cook for us. That was his way of taking care of us. I loved coming here with him. It was a five-senses overload--the smell of fresh seafood, the sound of people talking story, the colors of fish on display. Back then when you were allowed to sample a grape or poke to make sure it was good before buying. But more than that, it was time with him. I still remember the excitement I felt when I saw the pink building with the huge crab. I thought back then was to look at everything but now I understand that it meant something more..... something special--time with my dad. It's with a sad heart that Tamishiro Market is now closed. Odd, as nothing really needed to be "cooked" very long. I noticed immediately that a majority of the tables were disgusting and there are flies buzzing around. You cannot silence it, so I ended up abandoning my place in one of the three cash register lines. Since there are only 3 lines, they do not move quickly. This is prime time on a Saturday, mind you. I went to turn in the beeper and get my soup. The soup comes in a flaming box with a bowl shaped opening with feet, where the stainless seet bowl sits. Now, I get that the flaming box is meant to keep your soup hot... However, WE ARE IN HAWAII. The ambient temperature isn't going to cool down the soup dramatically. IN FACT, I HAVE BEEN SITTING HERE WAITING FOR THE FLAME TO GO OUT, BECAUSE MY SOUP IS TOO HOT TO EAT. Additionally, because the bowl sits on feet, the beef bones weight keeps spilling the soup off one end. The soup is delicious, but this is the stupidest execution and presentation of something meant to be delicious and simple. Also, if the bowl is too hot to hold and drink from... soup spoons would be awesome. ‍
