I'm a little surprised to see people queuing at Axil when this paradise awaits upstairs next door, don't get me wrong I love Axil, but this place is pretty stunning. But please don't tell them, it's rare to be able to get a seat outside on a gorgeous sunny deck under an umbrella surrounded by trees and a veggie garden in Melbourne without a queue. The food has never disappointed. From the porridge and oats to the cooked breakfasts, I always enjoy my meal. Good specials on offer too, on the weekend I had corn and ricotta fritters with heirloom tomato salad and avocado cream, it was the goods and I'd love to see it on the menu. Their coffee offering is pretty solid, from the standard milky affair to the fancy filter stuff I don't understand but order to impress our interstate guests with my Melbourneness. Their green smoothies are tasty too. The staff are great with a sense of humour that I really enjoy, the owners in particular are cool (banter with them is a highlight for me), they're friendly and it's a family affair and they welcome families alike. But don't worry this place isn't overrun with yummy mummies, it's not really overrun with any 'type' it's just full of people who enjoy good food in breezy, relaxing surrounding. It took a considerably long time to receive any of our drinks and were never offered any water. 3 of us got the exact same drink, and one of us got a glass of wine. We were offered Parmesan on our meatballs and accepted, and then we were left waiting with no Parmesan ever coming to the table. Fine. We put in our food order and it took well over 30 minutes to receive anything. We then got 3/4 of our food, with one person missing their lamb ribs for an additional 15 minutes after everyone else had gotten their food. Before his food came out, the waitress came and asked us how everything was tasting (pretty good). No census taken on the lamb yet to come. The lamb was mushy and drowned in BBQ sauce resulting in an unsavory texture and flavor. The bones were being pulled out of the pile of meat. (There is a huge difference between meat that is tender enough to fall off of the bone and the bone just completely sliding out). He left over half of his food because it did not taste good at all. We let the waitress know, and she apologized and told us we would not have to pay for the meal. She came back a few minutes later and told us the lamb always comes that way (concerning), and we actually would only receive a 50% discount on the lamb. When we attempted to contest, the individual in charge was lying to our faces about how the lamb plate was completely finished and no one ever said that we would get a full comp on the lamb. They also lied about the fact that the waitress had come to ask how his food was and he said it was good. Lying to our face about something that happened to us is objectively crazy, and ruined The Quarter for us. Disgraceful, rude, and terrible service (during a time in which 2 tables are in the restaurant). Spend your money somewhere else that values their customers' experiences.

This place has plenty of indoor and outdoor seating we snagged a table outside without issue. With the outside bar, we ordered and paid at the counter then endured the short wait for coffee and food. I was totally not expecting the chilli, coriander and spring onion to compliment the panko-crusted eggs, roti and bacon. But holy toledos it was divine! The fresh chilli added a nice heat with each mouthful without being overwhelming, the cilantro added a nice subtle flavour without overpowering the dish. The spicy hollondaise had a lightness to it that complimented the saltiness and heaviness of the bacon. Oh and the roti. Never in my life have I enjoyed such a flaky and crisp roti and I'll never forget it. My meal was just perfection. I'm almost sure the eggs were supposed to be poached, in which case they were totally overdone but I actually preferred it more. Sadly, my partner wasn't too crazy about his poached eggs and sourdough with added heirloom tomato and bacon. Now mind you my daughter was standing next to me with a starbucks drink. We found a table started looking at the menu when another gentlemen came up to the table and said you can't have that in here and moved it away from my daughter, he then lifted it up again and said you can't have that in here because we dont know what's in it. To which I replied my daughter is 13 what do you think is in it, we stood up and walked out. We found somewhere else to go. On returning to out hotel we walked past and I saw a family walking out and at least 3 off them had drink bottles on them that were NOT clear so my question is they were allowed too as adults but my 13 yr old daughter could not.
