Got the regular BBQ chicken, which came with what seemed like 1-1/2 scoops of white rice, some mac salad, bean sprouts, kim chi, and cabbage. The chicken was lightly flavored - very yummy and not at all overpowering. There were 3 good sized slabs of chicken, so definitely a good portion. The rice was just enough for me - often at plate lunch places there is just too much rice. The veggie portions were flavorful and just right, too, tho maybe others might think them a little small. I would have preferred a bit deeper flavor on the kim chi, but it certainly wasn't bad tasting. The parking lot is pretty large but the spaces are narrow and it gets pretty congested at lunch time. The gentleman who took my order was very nice and the service was quick (but not too quick, if you know what I mean). The food was fresh and pretty darn yummy overall. These folks open at 8:00 AM Monday through Saturday so serve a couple of egg dishes too - egg and spam and egg and Portuguese sausage. There are also a couple of soups and noodle dishes in addition to the rice dishes, as well as sides. Strangely, they also offer chicken, veggie, squid, and shrimp tempura. They also offer catering pans and a beach pack you can take and grill - just call 1 day in advance. I just could not get over how clean it was in here! The rest of the strip mall is pretty nondescript, and it is in the airport industrial area, so you can just imagine the overall feeling. Parking can be tight during lunch time, but this place is clean and they just recently re-did the interior of their restaurant (I guess I haven't been here in a while). Prices used to be really really cheap to reasonable but like anything else, everything goes up. I like their plate lunch, it's the perfect plate, that comes with BBQ meat, rice, piece of meat juhn and mandoo with Korean vegetables and Mac salad. It's a small hole-in-the-wall diner. The pictures looked good so I decided to go inside. Like a lot of places that serve local food they had all of your standard combinations of tempura chicken, tempura shrimp, kal bi, meat jun, fried chicken, teriyaki beef and Korean pan chon. I couldn't decide on what I wanted so I got the special with everything. Man they can pack a lot of food into that carry-out container! It only cost me $13 including a Medium soda. I took it back to my hotel room and just pounded on the food. So here's the breakdown: Teri beef: pretty good, a little too gingery for my taste. Kalbi: Good marinade and without the bone. I licked my fingers after eating. Tempura shrimp: got a little soggy by the time I got around to eating it, but it wasn't anything special. Tempura chicken: again, was a little soggy by the time I got around to it and it wasn't really flavored. Mac salad: typical on the taste (and I like that) Rice: well, med grain and steamed is med grain and steamed. Just add shoyu and good to go. Kimchee: good flavor, but probably from a jar. Meat Jun, again, nice marinade. I finished it. So the plus side to this place is that it was very convenient if your near the aiport and don't feel like waiting too long for your food and the prices are pretty cheap for what you get. read more

Bottom Line: darn good Korean BBQ at very reasonable prices. I've been eating here for years, and they've consistently had very good food. I've tried the typical "guy" dishes there (lots of the meats, like chicken BBQ, bulgogi, kalbi, meat jun, TEMPURA CHICKEN?!, tempura shrimp, etc.) They're all pretty good - but just to warn you, the tempura here is not dainty and light. It's heavy. It's also usually very good. Another thing that sets this part apart is that they serve many of those little veggie dishes on the side, but with this really tasty soup. I don't know what's in it other than some seaweed, but it's one of things that sets this place apart, and I sometimes order an extra side of the soup. It's so tasty! (TIP: If you like marinated and fermented kimchee, their's is usually pretty sour!) Finally, the last thing I can comment about this place is that it's run by a nice Korean couple, that you'll sometimes catch shopping at the Waipio Costco...or at least I do. They speak broken english, but they're very nice, and again, they make some good food! The restaurant itself is a little worn looking, at a strip mall along the Nimitz, so it's not a first date place. But I don't go there for the ambiance. There's just about 4 little tables in there, so most people take their food to go. Orders there range from $6 to $11 a head. The $10 plates can feed 3-4 people (with correct proportions.) If you eat a lot or you don't care how much you eat, just how good it tastes, it may still stretch to two meals. Get one of their special combos, and you will get a MOUND of food. I like that they don't over batter their jun. It's nice a light. Now, the chicken on the other hand well, that was really "super" battered. The mandoo is a huge but more of the size was due to the "folds" which hold it together more so than the inside filling. It was ok. nothing special. Four pieces came with the combo and were nearly the size of my palm. Of course, I had to eat hubby's chicken. He didn't care for the batter, which I agree, some pieces had huge amounts of breading on it. I was too busy dunking my chicken in that sauce. I loved that watered down gojuchang! Located in a small strip mall on the ocean side of Nimitz, a few minutes away from the airport. They share a parking lot with a Subway and an Aloha Sushi. The place is kind of hard to see from the road. Look for a Chan's (Chen's?) Chinese Buffet sign and you're there. I had the meat jun/mandoo combo plate. I really liked the mandoo because it was folded with a pretty scalloped edge and fried crispy all over. The meat jun was tender and acceptably yummy, though I prefer Kim Chee II's meat jun. All plates come with mac salad (I think it had trace amount of tuna in it), wakame "vegetable", beansprout namul, and 2 kinds of kim chee. I thought the head cabbage kim chee was pretty good, but I like it spicier. Of course plates come with rice too. My plate with a medium Pepsi came to about $8.00; not bad! The take out menu spells the name of this place differently than it's listed here: Nimitz Bar-B-Q Korean Food. There are 74 items listed, including a Butterfish plate ($9.40), which the fiance will need to try sometime to let me know if it's decent. I think next time I will try the bi bim kook soo ($5.50). Prices are very reasonable. If you dine-in, your meal is served with kim chee, pickled seaweed/cucumber and radish. Everything I tried was pretty delicious.
